Since having my little girl 9 months ago the constant hand washing and washing up has wreaked havoc on my hands!! They're so sore and chapped all the time and nothing really helps. I've tried O Keefes as so many people rave about it but it's not cutting it! The cold isn't helping atm either Confused does anyone have any suggestions for a super hardcore cream? Thank you!

I really rate Aveeno. I had dreadfully sore and itchy hands and it's great - very easily absorbed and not at all greasy. It's unscented, so I sometimes squeeze some into a small pot and add a drop of essential oil if I want a nice small.

This. I find anything else really drying and it actually makes my hands worse.

stardust777 · 23/01/2025 21:10

I'm using this one and really impressed by it:

Neutrogena concentrated unscented hand cream (updated formula)

Before using it, I was worried I had eczema - my hands were very scaly and irritated. I've only been using the hand cream for about a week and my hands are nearly back to normal.

Rozbos · 23/01/2025 21:16

Yet another vote for neutorogena. I smother it all over my hands every night without fail and they are ok in the morning. It's the only thing that has ever worked and that's despite having eczema on my hands and working as a nurse!

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/01/2025 21:23

Aultrist (on Amazon) does the best hand cream at an excellent price.

Member128248 · 23/01/2025 22:23

I recently tried the Neutrogena anti-age hand cream in the purple tube.
Really rich and moisturising. Very impressed!

Working hands

middleagedandinarage · 23/01/2025 22:26

Body shop, Hemp hand cream! It's amazing! I work outside and also in water a lot, my hands get so dry they bleed especially in winter. It stinks a bit but worth it.

Nursem cream expensive for a reason great hand cream

Anjo2011 · 23/01/2025 22:32

Nursem. According to the blurb it’s used by nurses and midwives as they are frequent hand washers. I got mine on Space NK but have seen it’s on Amazon too. I have the non fragranced, it’s good stuff.

Notcopingbutstillstanding · 23/01/2025 22:32

I use the blue Nivea in the tin. Generous dollop and rub in really well for about a minute.

Ineffable23 · 23/01/2025 22:35

Fourthing or possibly fifthing the l'occitane shea butter. Body shop hemp one is also good. Or that Norwegian one in boots.

What washing up liquid are you using? Is it fairy by any chance? The stuff is dreadful for your hands. My hands were bleeding until I switched to a milder detergent, problem solved! And I no longer need any special creams 😊

noodlezoodle · 23/01/2025 23:19

I get eczema on my hands and the only two that have really helped when it's bad are the (expensive) La Roche Posay Cicaplast, and the somewhat cheaper Cerave Therapeutic Hand Cream. I'm in the US but this looks like the UK equivalent.

I would also put on hand cream, then cotton gloves, then washing up gloves when you're doing the dishes. And hand cream and cotton gloves to sleep at night if you can bear it.

IWasBornIn1989 · 23/01/2025 23:22

Husband has tried them all. He rates the LRP Cicaplast as number one, then Body Shop Hemp cream. He has v dry hands but doesn’t like any hand cream that leaves a greasy residue. Didn’t rate O’Keefe, Aveeno etc.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 23/01/2025 23:22

Another vote for neutrogena. The only thing that worked to protect my hands when I was a farm labourer in the winter! The lip balm is awesome too.

unmemorableusername · 23/01/2025 23:23

Almond oil for your nails/cuticles. You can get it in Superdrug next to the nail treatment stuff. It looks like nail varnish & goes on with a brush like polish.

The best cream I've used is the cocoa butter one.

Epaderm, use 100% cotton gloves in bed after application, Pat dry your hands, never use anything chemical without wearing gloves

Oh and use Silcock's Base instead of soap. My hands were really bad and I used Dovabet which is on prescription if your doctor will prescribe.

Ak732087D · 23/01/2025 23:35

LRP Cicaplast mains is the best one I’ve ever found

LuckyPlant · 24/01/2025 07:17

Another vote for LRP Cicaplast and their Lipikar cream is great too.

MollyButton · 24/01/2025 07:19

Aveeno is the only one that works for me. Because I need moisturising rather than a barrier.

I would also suggest ensuring you are drinking enough water as that can help.

Blue278 · 24/01/2025 07:22

I think you’re looking at it wrong. Putting cream on damaged skin. Just stop damaging your skin. Gentle cleansers, gloves, protection.

RuralSage · 24/01/2025 07:28

Cetraben have just brought out hand cream, its really good

mrssmiling · 24/01/2025 07:34

The L’Occitane hand cream as recommended by so many others is excellent. Advice to use gloves is also vg - including cotton ones at night. I have thick rubber gloves and also use those thin latex ones when cleaning, to protect my hands. There are lots of cheaper creams which do a good job - Lotil is another - cheap and very effective.

mrssmiling · 24/01/2025 07:37

It’s always worth trying out the Lacura range at Aldi - cheap, and some great dupes, although many are available for a very short time!
