PJ tops that aren’t indecent

Feels like unicorn poo - so suggestions welcome.

Wish list is - not going to traumatise anyone wearing around adult brother / parents.

  • Not button up (incompatible with boobs)
  • comes in 18 / proper XL
  • not see through
  • fully covers boob and stomach (so not cropped or low cut)
  • material thick enough that doesn’t highlight every subtle feature of nipple and aureola
  • sleeves - long sleeves, or if short then nearer elbow than armpit.

Help!

I'm the same as @Mossstitch I buy plain pj bottoms and an oversized t shirt. Much more comfortable, breathable and no flashing. Don't have to wear a bra either

If you get a needle & thread and stich up the button hole with a few stitches the buttons will stay in the hole.

But surely a long sleeve tshirt would tick all your boxes?

A lot of long sleeve t shirts are fairly thin fabric and cling so you get far more boob detail then I’m looking for.

Although I’ve picked up the ‘busy pattern’ tip from this thread, which should help.

I wear a teashirt plus an oodie style top, not actual oodie as too expensive, I get mine off amazon then take it off when I go to bed with just the teashirt.

I understand wanting boobs to be covered, warm and comfortable, but I don't understand the problem with nipples being visible in pyjamas around your own home with your family?

Fair enough.

Own home with husband and 3 yr old I’m fine with.

Own home with extended family staying, or staying with extended family and I’ve got a different threshold. I’d rather not be showing them the boob details.

Watching with interest as I also need pyjama tops.

I have lots of bottoms, but decent tops are hard to find. Want long sleeve, cotton, with decent thickness and no button ups. I don't understand why these are so difficult to buy!

ScaryM0nster · 24/01/2025 12:39

I actually ordered these last week.

The trousers are lovely. The top feels far more like day wear than pjs, but they’re my best compromise for upcoming trip at the moment.

I like Chelsea peers designs and feel - I get the cotton ones that are tee shirt - long sleeve tops and bottoms they're stretchy and comfy

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/chelsea-peers-curve-zebra-pyjama-set-navy/p111132307?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Men's PJs are your friend. Jogging style bottoms so they don't ride up, thick sweatshirt/T-shirt top. Big enough, pockets and cheaper.

I'm fine with my DS's seeing my nipples in pjs. Mine are not ancient (well, I'm 54, is that ancient?) and def not swinging. Anyway, don't want to derail the thread.

But my post wasn’t about whether or not I am fine with it.

I’d worry that the people mentioned would not feel comfortable if my boobs were obvious to that extent.

Perhaps your DSs would rather not see your nipples, however fine you may be with it.

Same here.
I may be old fashioned but I feel if it's a situation where people are not comfortable with being braless or being seen to be braless then it's a situation where more substantial clothing is required.

I quite like being able to go to the bathroom / get a glass of water / cup of tea / entertain the small child in early morning whilst staying with extended family without getting fully dressed.

Particularly as once one of them is up and we’ve done the small talk bit they’ll often taken over responsible adulting and I get to slink back to bed.

Another one who buys pyjama bottoms and then finds t-shirts from elsewhere. I tend to re-allocate slightly elderly/baggy t-shirts that I don't want to wear out of the house any more, but always have one nicer one for wearing in company!

suburburban · 24/01/2025 13:24

Does anyone find the tops seem to run up so your back is cold

The M&S tops aren't too bad in the sense of covering up though

suburburban · 24/01/2025 13:27

Could you bring a lightweight dressing gown

Chatterboxy · 24/01/2025 13:31

I buy men’s PJ bottoms, great pockets & long enough too! I then buy a long sleeved T-shirt to wear. Does the job!

Jabbabong · 24/01/2025 13:56

Buy a long sleeved T shirt. The top does not need to be called a Pyjama top to be used as a Pyjama top.

notnorman · 24/01/2025 14:07

Long sleeved thick thermal t shirt and cord elastic waist stretchy bottoms for me from Sainsbury's

mouldygarlic · 24/01/2025 15:32

These ones are really comfortable!

Choccyscofffy · 24/01/2025 15:56

Do they need to be matching? You can get long sleeved cotton night dresses and then wear them with black pyjama bottoms. This one is £7.50, new with tags.

I have never found a decent PJ set. I make up my own mix and match with a combination of normal vest tops or t shirts that fit nicely and are comfortable, then soft leggings or joggers. I keep them as bed clothes only.
I usually get dressed as soon as I'm up but if I know I'm going to be wearing them around the house I wear a soft wireless crop top/bra underneath.
