They're like new as I'm ashamed to say they were in a wardrobe and I forgot they existed. I've lived in some chunky m and s Chelsea boots black suede but these are bit more waterproof. But are they hideous - dare I say it - mum boots (this to prove I'm an old time MN person not a foot fetishist

Boots - keep or donate these ?

@DoloresODonovan me too. Feel invincible walking on the ice in them!

I’m a size 4 & would happily wear them!

PullZook · 14/01/2025 08:22

I think they are fine and quite useful in this weather.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2025 08:51

They look quite nice to me, but they wouldn't work with my clothes and it sounds like they don't work with yours either. Given that and that you don't actually like the colour or style, it doesn't really matter that they're 'useful' and that other people like them - unless you're going to wear them they're just wasting cupboard space. Donate them now so someone can use them this winter.

TheOGCCL · 14/01/2025 09:17

There's probably a reason they got forgotten about.

I think the buckles do look a little dated and make them slightly veer into mum boot territory. The buckles seem quite big.

Overall they are also not quite chunky enough for me, not compared with the lug boot trend, and they wouldn't pair well with some of the looser/wide leg trousers (more skinnies). However they are fairly inoffensive and seem like they could be quite useful. It all depends on what you have to wear with them and whether you like the looks you can create.

Berlinlover · 14/01/2025 09:18

I’m not a mum and I’d wear them.

Nail on head here. If you know you aren't going to wear them, don't hang on to them feeling guilty. (Too small for me sadly!)

NeedWineNow · 14/01/2025 10:18

I really like them and would wear them, however if they're not your style then I think sell or donate.

WillimNot · 14/01/2025 10:19

Well I clearly am in my Mum boot era as I think they look lovely.

Haver74 · 14/01/2025 10:38

If you think they're hideous, you have your answer! Don't hang onto things just because you feel you should.

Me too. I really like the buckles!

Newhi · 14/01/2025 11:39

I think they look dated and there is a reason they’ve been forgotten about in the back of your wardrobe! I would donate and replace with something you love.

Yes!
be careful all the same!
(pride goes before a fall)

DoloresODonovan · 14/01/2025 12:54

@Newhi how frightfully profligate

lindyloo57 · 14/01/2025 15:40

do you have a dog, they'd be good for dog walks

So you keep absolutely everything? Even if you don’t like it and won’t use it? Much better to donate to someone who would use it and for you to have things you like and use rather than live in a house full of clutter. I would argue it’s more wasteful to keep it and never use it, depriving a charity shop of a sale and the enjoyment and use of the future owner!

Itcantgetanycolder · 14/01/2025 16:27

These aren’t mum boots. Mum boots have a Cuban heel and are black and are worn with black trousers and a sparkly top

SoupDragon · 14/01/2025 16:30

I do wish people would stop with the "mum boot" nonsense.

OP if you like them, keep them. If not, donate without a second thought. I am trying to be more ruthless with things like this.

Grasmereginger · 14/01/2025 18:25

They'll be on Vinted soon I think. Just can't think what I'd wear with

PheasantPluckers · 14/01/2025 18:32

It depends on your lifestyle, really. I do a lot of walking in all weathers, so I wear lratical footwear i dont particularly love in the foul weather to preserve other footwear I do love!

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 14/01/2025 18:57

Grasmereginger · 14/01/2025 07:22

Interesting. Maybe it is buckles putting me off

The fake buckles put me off. I assume they don't do anything? Like "lace up" boots which have inside zips.

I would keep them to wear as "I don't care if these boots get wet/ muddy/ ruined but I need something sensible on my feet" boots if and when the situation arises.

I have these. I think they look awful, (despite being proper lace up boots) but they're warm, very comfortable and I don't care what happens to them. They're also so far indestructible.

I do not like these boots

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle - there's certain things that fill me with astonishment that someone deliberately designed them, and other people made and sold them. Grin

InTheRainOnATrain · 14/01/2025 19:39

Glad to hear they’re going on Vinted. If you can’t think what you’d wear them with and you forgot you even owned them then they’re a pointless waste of wardrobe space and whether they’re ‘mum boots’ (whatever that means) or bang on trend doesn’t really matter.

haplessharpy · 14/01/2025 22:34

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle

Shit me, I don't like them either. They are deeply unattractive.

itwasmadeofelm · 14/01/2025 22:50

Feel free to share the Vinted sale, I'm a 4 and I really like them!!!
