They're like new as I'm ashamed to say they were in a wardrobe and I forgot they existed. I've lived in some chunky m and s Chelsea boots black suede but these are bit more waterproof. But are they hideous - dare I say it - mum boots (this to prove I'm an old time MN person not a foot fetishist

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle - there's certain things that fill me with astonishment that someone deliberately designed them, and other people made and sold them. Grin

I feel slightly sorry for those boots being laughed at! They were bought in an emergency when I needed something soft, warm and stout or not go out at all. I'm never going to wear trainers so they were it.

The leather is very soft and they're really well made - tbh better than my Lanx boots where the tongue always ends up twisted. The grip on ice is far better than my Lanx or Joseph Cheaney boots. I'll keep them because sometimes a warm, comfortable, non slippy boot that you don't have to take care of is just what's needed.

There are certain people that fill me with astonishment that they deliberately go online to write insulting posts about things which other people buy which are not to their taste. It takes a certain sort of arrogance to believe that your own sartorial opinion is so important.

amoreoamicizia · 15/01/2025 07:09

Oh no, I have something almost exactly the same! I'm always wearing them because I walk a lot, but like you I've never loved them and have that "Oh Well I'll Put On These" feeling whenever I wear them. They're not quite "me", either 😔 I made a concerted effort to find better boots, but the ones I did find feel too good for traipsing round day-to-day.

You're inspiring me to get rid of them, though.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2025 09:22

I wouldn't have said that if that poster hadn't said she thought they looked awful, @NattyTurtle59 , I was merely agreeing with her sartorial assessment! 😂

I too own various 'emergency' items, @IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle , which I use for their practicality etc and when push comes to shove comfort wins by a country mile over dubious style most days!

CluelessAsFuck · 15/01/2025 09:34

I have boots like that - don't feel mumsy at all!

amoreoamicizia · 15/01/2025 10:01

I'm not sure there's anything wrong with "mumsy" per se, if you mean "looking like a mother". I'm not even exactly sure what that implies but clearly it's a negative here. Can we substitute another adjective?

Grasmereginger · 15/06/2025 16:50

@itwasmadeofelm they're up in there now

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle , I don't like brogues normally but they're fine apart from the tweed. I like Harris Tweed but not as part of a shoe.

I don't like boots or shoes that have zips and laces.

@Grasmereginger , the boots in your OP look OK. I wouldn't have bought them, but I'd wear them to the shops or something in the winter.
