HELP im a scarecrow!

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 16:11

I need desperate help with my dry fluffy frizzy mass of scarecrow hair
i look like Hagrid but not as tidy
its driving me mad! Nothing I try is hydrating enough I’m always left with a tangled mass of waves that looks horrible and all I can do is plat it or bun it! Today I had it cut from my bum up to my bra strap to try to help but I’m still stuck. It’s incredibly fast growing and thick! Takes 3-4 box’s of hair dye to colour it which I do as infrequently as possible to try to avoid damaging it more! Nothing I have tried works! Please I’m in desperate need of a decent shampoo and conditioner to start with!

Have you had a go with PK Elastisizer? Twice a week, overnight?

RebelMoon · 02/01/2025 16:23

Have got tried the L'Oreal Elvive hyaluronic acid range? That's made a real difference to my hair.

JulietSierra · 02/01/2025 16:28

It sounds to me like your hair is curly. If I don’t use the correct products then my hair is exactly like you're describing yours. When I use product on it, I have a head full of curls and waves!
Why don’t you try a cheap use curl range like the Umberto Giannini stuff in the bright pink containers? Wash and condition your hair as usual. When still soaking wet, rake a small amount of curl cream through it. Then when still wet put a load of curl gel through it and scrunch, scrunch , scrunch. Dry it with a diffuser and see if you have curls!!

Garlicnorth · 02/01/2025 16:30

No promises, but it's traditional and cheap - have you tried lanolin? Assuming you aren't vegan.

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 16:31

No I’ve not tried either of thouse! I’ve only ever really used the basics…. L’Oréal coloured hair, herbal essence, ulberto bolsom £1 bottles, baby shampoo…..lush, shampoo bars…… these things used to be ok but are really not now! I was wondering about the Cornish seaweed company but it’s very expensive if it’s not going to help!

What’s your current routine with it?

LoafofSellotape · 02/01/2025 16:32

Milkshake spray leave in conditioner

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 16:36

I used to spend hours straitening my hair for it to last all of half a day and became a frizzy mess the first hint of heat or moisture in the atmosphere
Maybe it does have secret curly tendency’s I’ve been ignoring!!

Your hair changes as you get older. Mine used to be straight but is now wavy when let to its own devices, curly with a bit of assistance. I shampoo & condition it every day, then while it's still soaking wet I add a bit of Umberto Gianni Curl Jelly and leave it to dry on its own. This gives me nice soft curls. I rarely use my hairdryer now, only straighten it if I fancy a change.

EVHead · 02/01/2025 17:02

I agree you should try a cheap curl cream/gel first and see if it brings out your curls.

I use Merwave curly hair products, which are lovely but not cheap.

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 17:16

I wash it
it air dryes
i put it up
i know it’s hardly a routine but I have very little time anymore
i keep trying products that feel grate while they on on my hair but as soon as they are rinsed off leave it dry and tangled
leave in product never seams too do anything!! I’ve never had this problem before but now it’s every day!

OP posts:
midgetastic · 02/01/2025 17:19

How often do you wash it?

roseymoira · 02/01/2025 17:47

Can you post a picture of it? Obviously with face obscured

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 18:29

It’s actually not as frizzy today as the hairdresser has sprayed something in it and I’ve not left the house!
its normally a lot frizzier than this and looks particularly awful in a pony tail
it’s just not anything but untidy!
washed daily because it needs it as do I!

You have beautiful hair. I must admit, I spend a fortune on my haircare, I love the stuff! The more high end the more excited I get!! Saddo! But the Philip Kingsley Elastisizer, on your sort of hair over night would work wonders and also, your. Hair isn't anyway near as bad as you've described!

midgetastic · 02/01/2025 18:43

It's clearly curly

Brush only before washing
Wash in water or conditioner only - shampoo once a week

Layers can also help bring out the curl

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 19:28

It’s normally a lot frizzier and dry looking and underneath the top layer is just tangled and frizz rather than any sort of shape

rockstarshoes · 02/01/2025 19:38

Am I missing something can you not just buy a bottle of whatever your hair hairdresser sprayed on it because it looks stunning!

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 19:40

It’s just detangling spray it dosnt get deep into the hair and just makes it ok on the surface as opposed to well hydrated healthy hair all the way through that’s happy

LostittoBostik · 02/01/2025 19:43

Beautiful curls! Get some decent curl products!

LostittoBostik · 02/01/2025 19:43

Ps: you also need a cut for curls. Go to a specialist hairdresser. This will take all the weight out of it

Katrinawaves · 02/01/2025 19:47

Another thought is whether you have very hard water? If so a water softener head for your shower might help a lot.

DorianMeile · 02/01/2025 20:06

It's beautiful, just not a good cut. Curly hair rarely looks at it best when cut as bluntly as yours. As pp said you need to go to someone who specialises in curly hair. Have attached an example.

Gorgeous hair!!!!

I’ve been having hyrolinic acid treatments on mine, spendy but an absolute GAME CHANGER!

stickybear · 02/01/2025 20:37

I have thick curly hair not dissimilar to yours. The Garnier banana shampoo and conditioner are brilliant on my hair, use loads of conditioner and apply it while the hair is still really wet then leave for a couple of minutes before rinsing out. Then I'd suggest a curl cream or serum - I use frizz ease and it is usually on offer somewhere. Scrunch, air dry, then use some more curl cream while it is still damp to tame any remaining frizz. Agree with others that layers would bring out the curl. Good luck!
