My absolute sale winner is the patch pocket twill coat in brown/ecru. It is just so perfectly warm and cosy. Thanks to whoever recommended it on here (I forget). Sometimes the photos on Toast don’t show how wonderful an item is, and this for me is such a case.

IlovePond · 24/01/2025 14:39

Thanks for sharing, guys! @Poplinskirt - I applaud your restraint!

@MiracleToast - was that the £245 coat? I almost bought it a few times. Is it tts?

Zero restraint @IlovePond
I didn't like anything so it went back !

MiracleToast · 24/01/2025 14:44

@IlovePond I went with a medium whereas in old sizing I would have been a small. It is very lovely!

oddandelsewhere · 24/01/2025 14:45

The only thing I kept was the black padded jacket with the brushed check lining from last year. It's fabulously cosy. I almost bought it ages ago at full price but thought it was a bit too expensive, so I was delighted to snap it up in the sale.
Now all I want is dresses with sleeves, made of substantial material you can't see through and lovely colours (for me). Sadly I know the pear cord Freya dress would end up in the same discarded pile as last year's dark olive crinkle one. I do not suit these 'tasteful' colours! The French blue needlecord that they have used for a shirt would make a beautiful dress.

IlovePond · 24/01/2025 14:50

Sounds nice @oddandelsewhere

I am wishing I had tried it now @MiracleToast !

Some lovely choices among the keepers!

Just the Marbled Planner for me (and a Post Pass in hopes of getting some smaller things this year).

IlovePond · 24/01/2025 15:02

I do like that planner @Stravaig

I've just returned the Kantha pinafore , the only way it looked good on me was under a jumper. My shoulders are too small and boobs too big.
My sale keepers are the Birkenstock navy felt clogs and the poplin striped shirt dress. total cost £170.
I'm on the look out for another Selma so I'll see if new ones appear in the summer and don't mind paying full price if I like the fabric. The green one got returned in the end as it was too big.

Lovely coat @mizu

faustina · 24/01/2025 15:55

My keepers:

olive wood pinch pots
big acacia wood board
cotton linen twill minako trousers
cotton linen twill shirt

.. and in a roundabout way the cotton linen canvas trousers in tallow - via vinted for less

I don't think that's too bad? I was hoping to try the shirt in a bigger size but I don't think I can be arsed with trying on anything else and so I'll keep the one I have

I also ordered a pair of trousers from the Cos sale and then stocked up on two more pairs of their brilliant shorts as I'm going somewhere hot later in the year

I have one more hole in my wardrobe which will hopefully be filled by the padded indigo jacket. I think my kindred is due to be renewed (or not) at the end of this month. Hopefully they will!

OftenOrange · 24/01/2025 16:37

I’ve kept : Blackish cord dungarees
Cosmic print shirt
Cosmic print dress
Lia t shirt in Woodbine Green

still to come …Space tanks in both colours , different sizes

ScottishMouse · 24/01/2025 17:09

I kept:
onyx stripe linen dress
2 pairs of falke socks
2 pairs of wool cashmere mittens
Total spend was £237

I should maybe return one pair of mittens as I have hardly needed to wear mittens or gloves since they arrived. But it’s not like menopause will make my hands outgrow them like it does with every other part of my body, so I can also just pack them away for a winter to come.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 24/01/2025 17:53

@Poplinskirt I have the black crinkle trousers, they arrived yesterday and I need to try them with some different tops. They are a little bit bulky, but for me not excessively. Mine came with an awkward fold at knee height which is making them stick out, but hopefully that will have dropped out by the time I try them again.
I can see they will be useful, but I keep thinking there might be something in the next drop that I prefer.

Oh thanks very much for the review
I can't do bulky where trousers are concerned and I would like these as summer trousersso will give them a miss.
I've just remembered @IlovePond the Onyx dress was a sale purchase so not as virtuous as I thought!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 24/01/2025 18:01

@Poplinskirt Unless you live in Scotland I would say these are definitely not summer trousers.

Stoic123 · 24/01/2025 19:46

@IlovePond - total sale spend, in the end, was £126

Looback jersey sweater in Puck
4 napkin rings - I love these 😍
A garland for me and some mini baubles for a friend
Pair of cotton rib marl socks

I'm very happy with my haul - probably because, for once, it doesn't feel like I've been excessive. I'm not too keen on the new Toast stuff either (apart from a pair of socks) and my wishlist is empty. Hoping this is the beginning of an new era of Toast moderation 😏.

IlovePond · 24/01/2025 20:03

That’s a good haul @Stoic123

I do indeed understand @Stoic123 😹

Just as well the crackers went quickly before I ‘cracked’ and bought more 😹😹

No not Scotland
Thanks @Theteapotsbrokenspout
Wierd choice of fabric then-crinkle cotton is a summer fabric
I'm also not a fan of linen as a winter fabric either, it's absolutely summer, even heavy linen

OftenOrange · 25/01/2025 16:38

Just returned from my local Toast , returned both Space tanks …the blue in XXS made me look childish in a very bad way , and the mustard in S was too big and so loosely knit it was going to stretch .
I was told that there would be a large drop in early February.
Meanwhile I tried what had caught my eye online, the Black Boilersuit which I love. It’s quite long in the torso and very roomy , in the smaller size the leg length was slightly cropped .
However the barrel shape of legs is spot on , the twisted seam makes a great difference and gives a very modern look .

mizu · 25/01/2025 19:00

@OftenOrange the boiler suit sounds just up my street. I've got quite a long body and have a pair of barrel jeans from Free People that are one of the few pairs of trousers I wear now.

The scarf is going back - after all that thinking about it - it's lovely but big and I'm really not going to wear it that much.

Now have my eye on the smaller ones, especially this one. The coat is also a beauty but just shy of £500 🫨

Toasties - still loving the knitwear and the chat!
Stravaig · 25/01/2025 20:03

Apropos of nothing that Live! let me just say how much I loathe fashion-bollocks-speak. I so wish Toast had never abandoned their niche 'doing our own thing, making stylish practical clothes we love to wear, irrespective of fashion trends'. Now it just gallops along with the herd.

On the plus side, cowboy leg trousers are no worse than dropped crotches, cropped legs, or super skinnies: they are exactly as ridiculous and annoying when delivered en masse. But how else to keep us all buying new 'sustainable' clothes, if not ever changing gimmicks?

Also, for the love of warmth and practicality, please everyone stop making wide flappy sleeves (and gaping jumper hems). Especially on garments supposedly offering a warm or protective layer. You know where the generous openings should be? Non-strangling necklines! Toast has a horror of a visible collarbone; whereas I can't stand anything cutting across above it. Standoff.

Grumph. Mainstream fashion Toast is ... edit edit edit ... unappealing to me. Some lovely things in the Winter collection gave me hopes of a revival, but I'm cautious about what Spring/Summer will bring. Meantime, I keep a roving eye out for independent-minded newcomers just starting out from the kitchen table. Somewhere out there is a new kindred clothing spirit 😍.

IlovePond · 25/01/2025 20:10

If only I could sew @Stravaig, (or draw, or do a business plan or…😹)

I was just thinking today that, although I have only ‘got into’ Toast in the last three years or so, I have seen a change for the worse. The endless drops for one thing - just bring stuff out at the same time!

I very rarely bother looking at the website now outside sale times as I find it too overwhelming. The exception is if someone links something on here, or I see it in a shop.

I was even feeling nostalgic for the Circus theme today as I was wearing that little tent inspired hat. Ludicrous as much of it was, as least it was a) a bit different, b) mostly well made and c) came out as a cohesive collection with an associated campaign!
