Well said. It really soured what was until that point a very nice light hearted thread.

If you don't like what you've got that's fine but seriously the repeated unfair comments and shouts to avoid were just so unnecessary.

Agree.

So please keep posting what you receive as I am enjoying seeing what everyone gets.

(helps with my fomo 😂)

I don't like the shiny nylon material at all only the canvas type so I won't be doing it this year I don't think

They're decent sturdy bags though with strong zips and useful pockets

I was looking online with DD - she's debating between the canvas and the nylon . I think the canvas looks better too .
Is it ok in rain ?

(This isn't a Lucky Dip purchase )
Tx

Loverofbags · 28/12/2024 15:51

I have both and they are both good in the rain, they've survived some proper downpours! Have a look on vinted as you might be able to get what you want at dip price x

I have used the canvas Paddington daily for the last year, and the rain just runs or gets wiped off.

Granted I'm not in the UK but we do get some rain 😊 and I've never had wet items inside my bag.

Bumblebeehum · 28/12/2024 15:55

This is the first year I've heard of this, well up for a lucky dip!

I prefer canvas, but thing both are probably similarly ok in wet weather. Imagine in a downpour things would get a bit damp, but usual UK rain, fine.

Canvas to me feels a bit harder-wearing, although they are slightly heavier if that matters.

KittenPause · 28/12/2024 16:07

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

The canvas is prefect in the rain. Stays nice and dry inside

Lucky dip

It is what it is

A lucky dip

KittenPause · 28/12/2024 16:13

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

When I looked at some ROKA backpacks in a shop I really liked the one with magnets that folds over at the top

I prefer canvas in a medium

The large looks really big

The do have a size chart with photos online to see how each size fits different heights

HolidaySpirit · 28/12/2024 16:14

I ordered two maxis and two midis last year and both were the same (two Paddington Bs and two large Bantrys) in but in different colours. It was fine as I use them all so I was happy to buy again this year.

@holidayspirit I don't feel so bad now having way too many bags 🤣 i went a bit overboard last year...! 😅

I am unhappy yes, and it’s reasonable to be so! It’s not a tantrum to be pointing out the fallacy in some PP logic and how this company’s system is categorically not what it is holding itself out as being 🤷‍♀️ and that the products are pretty poor. TBH I’m scratching my head at the ROKA apologists, but maybe they can afford to lose this £££. I cannot. The odds of getting two identical products in a ‘lucky dip’ strikes me as a bit….well, highly improbable. (Unless there is more going on ofc, and it’s a more of cynical ploy by Roka). The company’s alleged return function isn’t working so leaves me with two useless products, out of pocket, and unable to buy something elsewhere. I just think it’s fair for others to know of my experience and make different choices perhaps.

Oh man, seriously, @isthismylifenow, you cannot possibly have fomo over two crappy mini Bantrys! 😂🤣

JollyHollyMe · 28/12/2024 15:44

Stick them on Vinted for what you paid plus £5- then when they are favourited make an offer to what you paid

No more hassle than taking to post office to return.

They will sell very quickly- mine did last year- as I said at the top- the lucky dip wasn't for me but I am definitely someone with a certain style- I got sucked in last year- didn't work out but I didn't lose out in the end. You might even make a few £££s- I did on 1 of mine as it was a desirable one- just not my colour.

Edited

thats really good, wish I could but I don’t sell on eBay or Vinted and I didn’t ‘lucky dip’ to score a profit. Just a one single workable bag 🙏😊

Apologies if anyone thinks I’m bringing down the mood, I’m really not but useful perhaps for others who may be wondering about going for it, and who cannot afford to lose £££, to see how this has panned out for others- not just Roka brand fans.

Sorry but it’s a bit random if you are short of cash to basically take a gamble - that’s was completely your choice and you going OTT repeatedly writing AVOID, and bad mouthing the company who haven’t technically or legally done anything wrong is completely irrational- much like the behaviour of a toddler. You are not out of pocket as you will get your money back.

If you read the rest of the posts on this thread and the previous ones you won’t see anyone else who is behaving like you are. I get you are probably annoyed with yourself for spending money you could ill afford on this, but I would say that is also irrational behaviour and would guess you have more going on in your life and that unfairly this is the straw that broke the camel’s back. But that doesn’t make the rest of us ‘Roka apologists’ why would anyone be apologising for something that isn’t wrong in the first place?

NunyaBeeswax · 28/12/2024 16:43

and that the products are pretty poor

I've already voiced my opinions on the lucky dip. Probably a few times.

But to say Roka bags are poor is absolute bollocks and sour grapes.
They make fantastic bags for the price point, even at full price.

Now maybe you can't compare then to some of the brands I've mentioned up thread, but for the money? They're fantastically made, the materials are good quality, the stitching is fantastic, the layouts and design are all good, the zips work well. Etc.

Disagree with the lucky dip, be butt hurt you didn't get what you want, but don't lie and say they're bad quality when they're absolutely not at all.

SurferRona · 28/12/2024 16:44

Loverofbags · 28/12/2024 15:29

To be fair I think everyone else on this thread is just enjoying the fun of it. I enjoy putting in an order each year and following the threads to see what people got. Most people are pretty light hearted about it and if they get something they don't want just swap or sell. This kind of behaviour on the chats is quite unsavoury, I dont understand why someone needs to post things like this and can't just get a refund and be done with it? People buy online or in shops all the time and return things, there's really no need to spread anger and have a personal vendetta against a brand.

As I explained up thread, I cannot get a refund. The company’s systems aren’t working so I cannot apply and an email told me that the team are out until late next week. So Roka keep my ££ and I can’t get a Sandqvist instead. If I was able to claim a refund, my irritation would be certainly be at lower levels. It’s just poor customer service, if I was like this in my job or working within such a poorly designed system I would be picked up on it and rightly so.

Pandagram · 28/12/2024 16:45

@SurferRona If having to wait a few days for a £60 return is going to cause you financial hardship, why did you choose to take the gamble in the first place?

I think they work for Sandqvist....

Don't want people buying Roka...

The lucky dip products- two identical too-small bags- IS a poor quality product for me their customer. The stitching might be great, but if both identical bags are unusable and pointless, the products Roka have sold me- two ‘lucky’ dips are poor. I will never know what the quality of stitching etc is, because they are both entirely unworkable for me. In fact, your testimonial just makes it all a bigger shame!

All you needed to say really was "don't enter a lucky dip if you need a product for a specific purpose and if you are short of cash."
I avoided the £9.99 price point because I did not want a hat, but I'd be happy with either of your Bantry bags. I didn't want two, so I only entered once.

Loverofbags · 28/12/2024 16:52

I'm just saying if you had bought clothes online and they didn't fit, you would simply return them, you wouldn't then seek out loads of places online to tell everyone to avoid the clothing brand. We are all here for a bit of fun and atent interested in all this negativity. Im sure the return option will be available properly again soon enough, it's in the middle of the xmas break so it may just be theres an issue on the website and lots of staff are off for xmas - its not an attack on you personally. Moaning on here and slating the brand is very distasteful. Have a bit of patience and you'll get your refund then you can get the bag you want.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 28/12/2024 16:53

I've done well out of previous lucky dips but I'm not very happy with my lot this year. Ordered 2 minis and 2 maxis, hoping for either a Chelsea or a bond and I've got 2 little purses (one beige, one nice print), and 2 bum bags (one black, one vomit colour)
