Showers every day but washes his face when the shampoo runs down his face! 😆

Thats it. No moisturiser, nothing.

Anyone else?

I think DP washes his hair with the shower gel tbh. Certainly never moisturises- but he has Mediterranean-type skin which tends towards the oily. He doesn't shave every day either 9annoyingly for me- stubble is scratchy)

But then my 'regime' is Dove soap, then moisturiser and body lotion- Aldi stuff for the face and whatever I've been given or whatever is cheap for my body.

Jealous of all this great skin! Mine only got into using moisturiser in his 50s and sadly it shows. Not sure many men I know our age have great skin either. Must be some good genes out there!

Does it? Or does he just look normal for his age?

I have no idea if my skin looks older than it is or just about what it is. But not looking younger than I am doesn't make it not good skin.

My red patches and sometimes lumps aren't bad skin, just my skin with its rosacea. It still does an excellent job of making my face mine.

I grew up - and remain - surrounded by mainly males. I often think about how much money they have saved over a lifetime of basic shampoo, shaving foam and very little else grooming-wise. 😐

Maybe, just maybe, women don’t actually need it either…😳

To me you should wash your face because it gets dirty and use spf, and washing your face also removes spf
If your skin is dry you might also moisturise at night

Anything after that is on top really, and you may as well stick with proven things like retinol and vitamin c

My DH is a builder and has spent his life outside exposed to the elements and he just showers daily, washing his face with whatever hes using (theres soap and shampoo in the shower ) and shaves once a week - yes he looks like Steptoe come Wednesday and a complete down and out come Friday.

Theres always a tub of Nivea soft beside the sink which he dips into now and then, and he does use SPF and a brimmed hat to protect his head and ears in the summer

He drinks like a fish, ex smoker, and looks his age

Fifthtimelucky · 24/12/2024 10:12

My husband is the same and doesn't even use sun cream in the summer. He's 74 and is often taken for 10 years younger than he is (probably helped by the fact that he still has a full head of hair which is its original colour).

His mother had beautiful skin and also looked much younger her than she was, so I think he is just very lucky with his genes.

Me and I'm female. 60. Look fine I think.

Hmm when people say they do no skincare do they mean not even a face wash? If I wear SPF (or makeup, but sticking with the essential argument) then it makes it really greasy. If I used bar soap to wash it would make mysl face extremely dry. Both of these would just have me breaking out going from greasy to flakey skin each night.

Are those that say they don't use skincare oversimplifying it? I just can't imagine not using a gentle face wash and a nourishing moisturiser to deal with a mucky face.

Yes I mean nothing. Wash on shower either with just water or what runs from washing my hair. No moisturiser. I don't wear any make up though. Use sun screen in summer (mostly).

ClassicalQueen · 24/12/2024 11:00

When we met my husband had a very basic skincare routine of washing and moisturising. Once we moved in together I changed that! He's only in his late 20s though so no real signs of aging yet.

avaritablevampire · 24/12/2024 12:20

unbearableloss I don't do any skin care on my face (except spf50 in high summer on my nose!) I don't use soap (just let shampoo run over it when rinsing my hair). I'm in my 50s and have really good skin. I've never been into sun bathing and have always used a wide brimmed hat, don't smoke or vape, I drink water and coffee eat an okayish diet, but I'm 99% sure it's genetics, my mum and dad both had fabulous skin, as did my grandparents. None used soap or creams on their faces....well dad definitely didn't as he was a right hairy faced hippy!

Sounds like my dh, builder, up until a few years ago he smoked on average 40 fags a day and drank at the very least 10 pints a day, never used suncream in his life, didn't wear a hat. He is now in his 60s, no wrinkles and great skin, most people that meet him think he is late 40s early 50s.
