Husband does not do skincare. Is he alone in this?

Showers every day but washes his face when the shampoo runs down his face! 😆

Thats it. No moisturiser, nothing.

Anyone else?

My DH is the same. Shower and a shave. That's it. Also has lovely skin at 56.

oviraptor21 · 23/12/2024 10:21

My DH doesn't but neither do I. Complete waste of time unless there are skin issues.

Cynic17 · 23/12/2024 10:23

My husband is exactly the same. Aged 60, and his skin looks pretty good - very few wrinkles. I think you could say this about most men (and lots of women, inc me!) in this generation. Surely it's not unusual?

Makes you wonder if you need any of the stuff that goes on your face.

Agreed. Mostly, we don't need any of the "skincare" marketed to us.

AnnaMagnani · 23/12/2024 10:27

I suspect although I haven't asked that DH washes his face with soap.

I don't even do that, face gets wet in the shower and that's it.

Absolutely. I think lots of it is more harmful for the skin.

I use an acne facial wash because adult acne is the gift that keeps on giving in our family. Moisturiser when needed but I have no set routine.

JingleB · 23/12/2024 10:31

Neither DH nor I do anything beyond washing our faces. It’s not unusual.

Cece92 · 23/12/2024 10:31

My partner uses a face wash but then he works long haul lorry driver and generally if there's no services then he ain't showering for 5 days so he cleans with baby wipes lol! Then soon as he's home Friday he uses a face wash and washes 3 times and slaps a bit of Nivea on his face and head 😂 I tried to get him to buy some skin products but he says it's a waste of money as he can't do it during the week. He does have nice skin just gets a bit dry sleeping in the truck all week x

Lovelysummerdays · 23/12/2024 10:33

I do wonder if a lot of us would be better off without most of the stuff we slap on our faces. Bit of spf, soap and water. I think I spent years stripping my skin then moisturising. I don’t really do anything now and am pretty wrinkle free at 45.

Mooi · 23/12/2024 10:35

dh does nothing to his face apart from shaving and his skin is fine, although he’s this year started using a daily spf, as I have skin cancer and we only want to do that once in the family!

Isatis · 23/12/2024 10:36

Just shows what a rip-off skincare products are.

MrsSunshine2b · 23/12/2024 10:36

Neither do I very often. If I'm wearing make-up that day, I remove it and then moisturise to compensate for the drying effect of make-up remover. Apart from that, your skin is perfectly able to look after itself.

BigDahliaFan · 23/12/2024 10:38

DH uses face wash and moisturiser. He's got very nice skin, partly genetics and partly doesn't smoke, rarely drinks and has always worked in an office.

We meet some of his contemporaries from school from time to time and most look a lot older than him - but for most of them it's drinking, smoking or years of sun holidays and/or outdoor working.

ThereIsALifeOutThere · 23/12/2024 10:39

That’s my dh routine too.
And mine to be honest.

WomanIsTaken · 23/12/2024 10:40

Nope, no skin care at all. Lovely skin.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 23/12/2024 10:40

Nope, DH does nothing. He is a big, bearded, bald bloke though.

He will use sunscreen on holiday or during particularly hot weather. And occasionally some nivea for men on his face if he gets dry skin patches. Sometimes a bit after he shaves his head if he can be arsed.

KittenPause · 23/12/2024 10:40

They shave though so that in itself is daily skincare of scraping off dead skin cells

Also shaving can make your facial skin very sensitive to face wash or moisturisers

My DS skin is lovely and clear since he started shaving and he found cash wash stung his face as did moisturisers

MumonabikeE5 · 23/12/2024 10:41

thats Me too. My skin is clear and less dry since I stopped applying cleaners and moisturiser.

Sprinklesandsprinkles · 23/12/2024 10:41

... I only wash my face with water and only moisturise if my skin occasionally dry 😅 I don't wear makeup up so that probably helps me not need to do more?

BitOutOfPractice · 23/12/2024 10:42

My DP uses a moisturising balm but I think that’s more to soothe his skin after a shave rather than skincare as such.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/12/2024 10:43

That’s how I was my face. I’ll get my coat …😁

OvaHere · 23/12/2024 10:43

Mine has started using face wash after I bought him some. He was using liquid hand soap which was just making his face dry. He's never going to be interested in face care beyond that and shaving. He looks okay for late 50s and tans well but I wouldn't say he has great skin.

I disagree that doing nothing in all cases is better. I really struggled with rosacea, acne and dry skin through my 30s and early 40s. By investing in targeted skincare and a bit of trial and error my flare ups have mostly gone and I have the clearest, softest skin now I've had since I was about 20.

bloodredfeaturewall · 23/12/2024 10:44

since havin melanoma and bcc removed from face dh uses a vit e and urea moisturiser and high factor facial sun cream.
before that he was as op described.

MayaPinion · 23/12/2024 10:44

I’m pretty sure we don’t need 99% of what were told we need, but you will crowbar my Nivea blue from my cold dead hands.

stayathomer · 23/12/2024 10:45

I always remember how my dad used to wash his face randomly- just cold water splashing his face and he’d make a funny noise that used to make us laugh. 😍
