Showers every day but washes his face when the shampoo runs down his face! 😆

Thats it. No moisturiser, nothing.

Anyone else?

I suspect 'doing almost nothing' is the regime many people's skin would prefer. Marketing is very powerful and insidious.

Utterly agree. I have no skincare routine at 62 and very few wrinkles. I do have marionette lines now so very occasionally will put so e hyaluronic acid serum on them but that's it. My lack of skin care came from being cash and time poor throughout my life. I rarely drink alcohol and have not been a sunbather which also help!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2024 10:48

Nothing but sunscreen in summer for both of us.

He uses loads of nice hand cream though, otherwise he gets bad eczema. I rarely use that, though my hands get well moisturised when I'm doing my feet (and sometimes elbows and knees) with flexitol.

Spaceid · 23/12/2024 10:50

From reading the posts on here I think your husband is in good company as it seems 80% of the women on here just use soap in the shower and nothing else, all look 20yrs younger with amazing skin!!

Rososos · 23/12/2024 10:51

My partner doesn’t really “do skincare” he washes his face in the shower and that’s it most of the men I’ve been with are the same lol

I don’t do that much either,. I wash my face with whatever face wash I have once a day-currently using neutrogena or cetaphil. I use something like CeraVe moisturising lotion on my body every day after showering and homemade shea butter and oil mixture on my face 1-2 times a day.My skin is combination-dry, Sometimes I’ll use a face oil if I have one but I don’t currently. I very occasionally use a face mask. I’m late 30s but have always been told since my youth I look much younger. Hated that when I was younger since I’d always be the one ID’d at a time we all wanted to look older nor younger lol but I was told I’d appreciate it when I was older.

I think aside from diet and stress - sleep has the biggest impact on my skin. I don’t have wrinkles yet but my skin looks tired, dull and puffy if I don’t sleep well for consecutive nights. Getting better sleep and reducing sugar has done wonders for my skin as well as my waistline.

airingcupboards · 23/12/2024 10:54

That's what I do!

TorroFerney · 23/12/2024 10:56

The thing they probably do, well some of them, is shave which takes the dead skin cells off.

it all rather proves that you have the skin you have and other than sunscreen and invasive stuff it’s all fairly pointless. Or it makes you feel mentally better perhaps.

My DH washes with Cerave hydrating cleanser and a flannel, uses moisturiser and every now and again exfoliates with glycolic acid. His skin is lovely, olive and quite robust but I can definitely see sun damage. He only uses spf in hot weather.

I think a lot of older people, men especially, would benefit greatly from gentle exfoliation and a lot more moisturiser. I see a lot of older men where I live whose skin is horrible, from smoking and sun exposure. I rarely see older women with really bad looking skin.

ExquisiteDecorations · 23/12/2024 10:58

Same here, only uses shampoo, shaving foam and suncream. Plus obviously toothpaste and deodorant. Never worn after shave or any fragrance either. He's got great skin. I use a bit of moisturiser with SPF in all year round (and proper SPF in summer) but not much else, our teen DCs don't use much skincare either.

Sanch1 · 23/12/2024 10:59

My DH doesn't and in fact neither to do I unless you count a bit of moisturiser if my skin feels dry!

UnbearableLoss · 23/12/2024 11:00

Hmm when people say they do no skincare do they mean not even a face wash? If I wear SPF (or makeup, but sticking with the essential argument) then it makes it really greasy. If I used bar soap to wash it would make mysl face extremely dry. Both of these would just have me breaking out going from greasy to flakey skin each night.

Are those that say they don't use skincare oversimplifying it? I just can't imagine not using a gentle face wash and a nourishing moisturiser to deal with a mucky face.

WalterdelaMare · 23/12/2024 11:04

My husband seems to be the exception. He uses a face wash and moisturises his face and body every day.

I don't know any man who does skin care lol

Doggymummar · 23/12/2024 11:05

Mine uses head and shoulders for everything. He uses beard balm as moisturizer and uses a blackhead nose strip periodically. He really looks after his teeth tho.

Wonderi · 23/12/2024 11:05

I rarely do it either and I’m a female.

I sometimes put a bit of moisturiser on in winter if it’s feeling dry.

But I have very nice skin and putting products on can often make skin worse, so I try and avoid it.

I very occassionally use a scrub, (maybe once a month) I rarely wear make up. (But obviously remove it before going to bed)
I use a cleanser, (salicylic acid) and mostly I just use water to wash my face. I don't use moisturiser because my skin is greasy and I've never used a facial wash.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 23/12/2024 11:09

DH washes his hair, face and body with the same product! A hair and body wash. The only other things that goes on his face is shaving gel and SPF in summer. He looks years younger than me after using top end flake care for nearly thirty years, and we’re the same age.

Lossyfloss · 23/12/2024 11:09

I hardly do.

I wash my face in cold water each morning and I wash it again in the bath in the evening.

I occasionally use moisturiser if it's a bit dry.

I have pretty good skin - I think not drinking or smoking helps too. I don't really like the feel of lots of creams etc on my face and hands.

CrocCottage · 23/12/2024 11:13

My dh is 42 and doesn’t do skin care either. He washes his face in the shower with water and either shower gel, soap, whatever is on hand really. He does moisturise occasionally, if there’s moisturiser to hand (usually mine)

He has very good skin & looks younger than his age. He’s never suffered with spots, even as a teen. He’s lucky.

MaMoosie · 23/12/2024 11:16

Mine used a face wash in the shower and a moisturiser after, he gets very dry patchy skin though so he has too.

I have terrible habits and really upset the Clinique lady who recommended I graduate to a more intense face cream as I leave my teenage years. I was like, um, I’m 31, I wash my face with shampoo, I sleep in my makeup most nights and I smoke. But if you think I I’m 19 then it’s obviously working for me! It’s all genetics. Both of my parents have fabulous skin and I drink a shit ton of water.

MalewhoisLaffinalltheway · 23/12/2024 11:19

Soap and water when showering and a tiny smear of Nivea after shave balm after shaving otherwise my skin dries out and gets itchy. Never use cologne after shave.

NunyaBeeswax · 23/12/2024 11:19

After many many thousands of years of evolution, you'd think our skin would have evolved enough to not need £££ of products on it every day.....

Thank heavens for the boffins at those small little billon pound companies who have saved our skin, we'd just be using soap and water otherwise.. 👍🏻👍🏻

(I don't think I need to point this out but just in case people think I'm being serious, I am, very.. thank you Mr Nivea and Mrs Dove..)

Redmat · 23/12/2024 11:27

Many years ago there was a dermatologist on TV who said that all these creams were totally unnecessary for normal people's skin. They recommended a touch of vaseline if you felt you needed it. I've never used anything on mine and now in my 60s think it looks no worse than those who have spent thousands over the years and better than many.
Not smoking helps .

FluDog · 23/12/2024 11:36

Sometimes my skin is dry so I use moisturizer but that's about it.

I had very bad acne in my teens, it seemed like anything could make it worse but washing didn't help, so I got into a habit of only really washing my face when I have a bath or shower.

Tubetrain · 23/12/2024 11:36

I don't do skincare other than water. Lots of people don't.

DogInATent · 23/12/2024 11:39

Skincare, and most haircare, is addictive. Strip the naturals from your skin with product A, then replace them with products B thru H. You're being mugged daily.
