I like the colour but not sure about the heel shape

Hi, I bought some red kitten-heel shoes of a very similar shape - not slingbacks, though - from M&S. They're surprisingly comfy. I wore them for a night out for 3 hours. Size 6.5, wide-fitting. I'm selling them, if you're interested.

I'm a slightly smaller size and not wide and specifically want patent leather, but thanks for the offer @OscarWinningTits. Those sound like winners - are you sure you want to sell them?

You did ask.

I don't mind that you hate them, but it's not helpful if you don't say what about them you find 'minging'. If it's the shape, it might be a helpful comment to me. If it's the colour or leather, it's not, as I already know I like those.

I guess it depends if you wanted to be helpful, or just mean?

@newname33887 Yes, I (knowingly, but hopefully) bought the wrong size because I was very squeezed for time and thought the extra width and length would somehow make them fit my size 7 feet! I managed the one night out in them, but I did end up with blisters.
They are sort of patent.

Actually, like another poster I want to retract my 'minging' comment, after seeing them on you (I didn't see that photo before saying 'minging.')

I just thought they looked squashy and flat and old fashioned, and the heel looked weird.

But they look much better on

So I take back my 'minging' comment. They look OK on. Are they comfortable though?

TizerorFizz · 15/12/2024 23:11

@newname33887 Style and Beauty is full of posters who would not know what style was if it slapped them in the face. This style of shoe is popular and just a look at Net-a-Porter shows anyone that. I’m sure you’d love M&S for £20 though! Why buy Jimmy Choo when you can have M&S?

I like the Choos. Try them with the clothes I suggested earlier.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 15/12/2024 23:12

I really like them. It's all about how you'll wear them. The full outfit. I'm guessing those who don't like them have quite different taste to you and me and therefore we probably wouldn't like their type of shoes either.

botemp · 15/12/2024 18:09

I like them but personally wouldn't get enough wear out of them to justify JC prices. And if it matters to you, as you're late to the party on the kitten heel, you would be buying them past the peak of the trend. I think the unusual heel probably gives them more longevity than standard kitten heels but you do run the risk they might not work as well with newer clothing silhouettes in the future.

All of this, pretty much. I like them in the abstract although they aren't my vibe at all, but I do foresee them dating, if not as quickly as the standard kitten heel.

Neveranynamesleft · 15/12/2024 23:14

They are lovely to look at but pointy toes are a no from me, I dont care how 'on trend' they are.

botemp · 15/12/2024 23:17

The leggings are a bit distracting but I think they'd look great with slinkier silhouettes as well as wider leg cropped jeans and similar.

If you want something higher, these could be an option but they're a lot more out there and going by opinions on this thread, probably even more marmite. Not sure if they're patent on just highly polished leather though.

I like them! My very slim and elegant daughter tried on a very similar (cheaper) pair in Next this week and they looked fabulous. Kitten heels are de rigueur.

newname33887 · 15/12/2024 23:18

Those are really nice @OscarWinningTits! I do want slingbacks, but I'm sure those will get gobbled up in an instant on vinted.

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway

Thank you - even if you still hated them, knowing specifically what you disliked about them is helpful, and I'm a little on the weird heel side myself.

@TizerorFizz

Yes, I will, but it's going to have to wait for tomorrow!

I really like those! I'm just not sure they quite work with the dresses I have in mind for a couple of events. I'm going to something at the Royal Academy on Wednesday, so might try to stop in at the Bond St store and see if they have them in stock to try on.

If you're out and about anyhow, have you looked at Amina Muaddi slingbacks? Might be worth a try on. I always sort of discounted them from seeing images online but when I tried some on I suddenly understood the excitement around them.

I've seen them on Net-a-Porter but never tried them on. I'll have a look if I have time. I don't think they have a store here, so would have to get to Selfridges.

I think she has a shop within Harrods, or maybe it was a pop up 🤔 I saw an architectural spread about the interior at some point in the last year or so anyhow.

LonelyInDville · 15/12/2024 23:58

They are cute but I would only wear them with long wide legged trousers or a long skirt/dress

KittenPause · 15/12/2024 23:59

The heel is unusual which makes them so great imho

Onlyonekenobe · 16/12/2024 00:07

I think they look much nicer on you than in the pictures. Love the width of the sling back strap, love the colour, v envious of your narrow feet (mine too wide for JC post-menopause). Given they’re kitten heels you can’t really see the heel unless your eyes are at floor level/ you’re sitting with legs crossed and someone is nearby. And if you do, they’re a point of interest, a little flare rather than generic kitten heels. I’d go for them.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/12/2024 00:15

and I'm a little on the weird heel side myself.

The heel doesn't look weird when you see them on.

To be honest this style of shoe is Everyehere. Anyone interested in fashion will have seen umpteen versions of these. Often worn with a midi straight skirt. Slinky ones or tweed ones. It doesn’t matter. Or cigarette pants or a mini skirt. Depends if £750 floats your boat for a pair of shoes.

Sister Jane has used this pink pair with lots of its dresses.

Kitten heels = cankles

No - cankles should never WEAR kitten heels . You either have them or you don't!

stripeyshutters · 16/12/2024 00:47

Hate the heels, have always loved pointy toes and kitten heels. Now the colour - normally I hate this colour as it is too school uniform for me.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/12/2024 04:20

I think they are gorgeous, more so as they were comfy.

For the poster whose M&S shoes gave blisters, M&S shoes come with complimentary blisters. It's their USP.

@newname33887 if you are London based I have a feeling you would like Bobbies - Marylebone High Street.
