I like the colour but not sure about the heel shape

I thought they looked awful at first but they look very elegant on you.

Oblomov24 · 16/12/2024 05:20

Love the colour, but not the heel. And I like pointy kitten heels and find them very comfortable, for an occasional wear instead of my every day sketchers.

newname33887 · 16/12/2024 08:04

Thanks everyone - the opinions, positive and negative, have been helpful.

I think the verdict is that I'll run into a couple shops today if I have time, and see if something miles better turns up. If not, I'll keep them. I need something for an event tomorrow night, so short on browsing time.

@Onlyonekenobe
I hear you on post-meno foot changes!

@RosesAndHellebores
I've had a pair of trainers from there, but never tried their actual shoes. I'll take a look when I'm over there later this week.

Not keen - they look so uncomfortable.

@WalterdelaMare
Pigs trotters? Urgh.

@StormingNorman
No cankles shaming please!

Here they are on my feet. Sunday night leggings possibly not the ideal outfit. I agree with the pp who said a bit higher might be better.

They look nicer on. Does the heel slip a bit?

I think the ultimate statement on the average level of fashion nous on MN is this thread, where people refer to a pair of Jimmy Choo wet-look kitten heels as "incredibly dated" and "something a maiden aunt would wear".

Garlicwest · 16/12/2024 12:36

I like the way the heel strap gets wider round the back.

I couldn't wear these, they'd fall straight off 😆 Not to mention that they need three years' worth of my footwear budget! I do feel it's worth getting the most beautiful and well-made shoes you can afford.

The kind of thing my maiden aunt wore in 1963 comment is quite funny given
(a) yes, that type of heel was worn in 1963 by women like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.
(b) the irony in proclaiming something is "dated" by using such a dated and misogynistic term as "maiden aunt" and (c) the internal misogyny - why would the fact the item was worn by an unmarried woman make the slightest difference on whether it's attractive or stylish?

DreadPirateRobots · 16/12/2024 13:07

😁 ah yes, that notoriously unstylish woman, Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

Let's not forget the 70yo grandmas who've been hittin' it in Jimmy Choo avantgarde slingbacks.

These shoes aren't my bag personally, largely because my aesthetic is just not a Jimmy Choo one, but I recognise their aesthetic value and their style creds.

Pumpkincozynights · 16/12/2024 13:11

Yes, only unattached women are dog ugly with zero sense of style 🤣🤣🤣
Even more lacking of style are those unattached women who’s siblings have children.

newname33887 · 17/12/2024 10:58

Thanks to everyone who weighed in. I've kept them and will be wearing them tonight. They looked pretty good with skirts and dresses and cigarette pants, but were a bit overwhelmed by wides legs/longer pants. I would have preferred a slightly higher heel for leg-flattery purposes, but these are surprisingly comfortable and don't feel like they need any breaking in.

@botemp
The BV shop didn't have those in stock, but I might order a pair - I really like them. Debating the black, which won't be as exciting, but I'll get more wear out of them. I didn't have time to check out Amina Muaddi, but I will the next time I'm near one of the boutiques.

I'd order both colours and see? The merlot looks like one of those that has a bit more range than a conventional burgundy. I tend to wear an unusual shoe in a less traditional colour more than when it's the other way round iykwim. But, then, I do tend to dress around my accessories so it might just be down to that.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/12/2024 15:25

I like them. I used to buy and wear designer shoes (and designer inspired shoes) when I had the money to do so and these look so on trend and lovely.

When you see a couple of PP’s names here you realise they’re in the dark ages re fashion.

Geneticsbunny · 17/12/2024 18:44

Kitten heels and wide legged trousers are a dangerous combo especially on stairs.

pepperaunt · 17/12/2024 20:10

@newname33887 I love those shoes and my feet and ankles are similar to yours. Unfortunately I have skinny heels so have never gotten on with sling backs. Please get back to us and let us know whether the wider heel straps prevented the dreaded slippage (I might have to head to JC myself…)

Pushedmonkeyfrommyback · 17/12/2024 20:29

I didn’t really like the first picture you posted but they look amazing on you, very classy

Ladyof2025 · 17/12/2024 20:41

Vile instruments of torture.

mdinbc · 17/12/2024 21:40

I think they are very elegant and I'm glad you are keeping them. I love a dark red shoe. Personally, I'm not crazy about the heel teardrop shape, but is is a bit different than the typical kitten heel.

Very true.

newname33887 · 19/12/2024 17:43

Thanks to everyone for your opinions. I've worn them twice this week and they'll get at least one more outing this weekend, possibly two.

@BurntBroccoli No, the heel feels surpisingly sturdy.

@pepperaunt I know exactly what you mean about the slingback issue. I didn't have a problem with these and, actually in the past have found that even narrow JC straps seem to stay put pretty well for me. I know there are things you can get that are supposed to go on the inside of slingbacks to help them grip - I've even bought some myself but never got round to putting them on and have now lost track of where I put them.

@Geneticsbunny Good point! Fortunately, I didn't love them with wide legged trousers - think I'm a bit too short for it to work. I need either something higher or chunkier.
