In praise on knee length socks

Hi,
I was chilly in the office the other day and rather than buying tights in my lunch break to layer up under my trousers, I ended up buying knee length black socks (falke, so quite posh ones).

What a revelation! So soft, warm and comfy, but without the faff of tights, and no waistband digging into my recently fattened peri middle. I loathe tights.

Does anyone else wear knee length socks? Is it ever possible to wear them with a skirt/dress without looking like a dodgy school girl fetishist..?

Yes, I love a bamboo knee length sock under trousers in Winter. If my ankles are cold all of me is cold.

OMG I absolutely love knee length socks in cold weather and can't understand why everyone isn't wearing them!

Especially if you are wearing wide leg trousers.

I find knee length socks lovely and cosy-warm. They are also far more comfortable than shorter socks with ankle boots under trousers.
M&S have some nice ones, I think they're called 'super soft', but sadly only in black or grey.

I haven't worn tights for 30 years. Knee length socks every day that I am not wearing sandals.

Tights under trousers 😱 never ever heard of that before! I would automatically do socks.

I have some gorgeous thigh high socks I bought from American Apparel probably 15 years ago now that I’ve worn every winter since. So much better than tights!!!

Yes, I recently rediscovered what a difference knee high socks make! I bought some in Uniqlo. @DoorOpening where did you find your falke socks? Not many shops stock them.

John Lewis is the nearest shop to my office so I found the Falke socks there. If I’m going to wear them more often I will definitely need to buy cheaper ones!

(And yes tights under trousers is an aberration but my office is so cold I thought that’s what I’d end up with!)

What you really need is long johns.
Tights are awful and knee socks fall down.

I wear knee high socks with maxi dresses too. Hate the feeling of tights and need my feet and ankles covered in cold weather.

I used to have some of those. I think I must have got rid of them in one of my occasional mad clothing culls. Regret it. They were fab.

John Lewis black merino blend knee high socks are great. They seem to survive in the regular wash. I'm no Victorian provocateur, I like my ankles firmly and opaquely covered, thank you very much 😁

If l wore tights under trousers, l’d probably forget l had them on and wet myself when l went for a wee. 🫢

I wear knee socks with long skirts and dresses in the winter. I hate tights! I’m quite short so I stock up on the back to school multipacks in September.

Can anyone recommend either knee or over the knee length socks for those of us with rugby player's calves? I have some but they are a struggle to get to full length and tend to work their way down to be mid calf and a bit Nora Batty-esque.

I can indeed. Soft and stretchy so they don't dig in and leave you with a bright red ring round your leg, but somehow also manage to stay held up.

I wear my Spanx leggings under trousers and long skirts, knee socks with knee boots and dresses with a little poking out the top. Cute as.
