If you're under 150lbs does 7lbs make a difference to the fit of your trousers?

I know that's a strange question but I tried on some size 12 trousers in store and they fit but were baggy at the waist, I tried a 10 on and they fit.
I ordered a few more pairs in other colours.

I wore them properly for the first time today and I feel like they might be a bit tight on me right now (when sitting down etc) but I'm still actively loosing weight and I'm half a stone away from my goal.

Do you think they'll fit better when I'm at goal? I've taken the tags off one pair but I have another 3 pairs in a 10 with tags on

But the 12s felt baggy and I was 3lbs heavier when I tried them on so another 7lbs will surely make them too big??

I've spent my birthday money on these 4 pairs of trousers!

Also I stipulated under 150lbs because when ilI was 200lbs+ it took a lot more weight loss for me to feel it in my clothes but since getting closer to my goal it seems like a smaller amount makes a bigger difference

I'm around 150lbs, and absolutely, 7lbs would make a significant difference in feel of fit for me. I suspect they'll feel lovely and comfortable :)

henlake7 · 26/11/2024 13:16

In the past I found about a stone was a dress size for me. Now though I have a perimenopausal middle that is very resistant to getting smaller so it wouldnt make much of a difference.
So my answer is yes and no!

Autumndayz77 · 26/11/2024 13:17

I’ve put on half a stone and my normal clothes are too tight (still fit but not ideal!). I normally weigh about 9 stone if that helps.

if I was you I’d send the other trousers back just in case and keep the ones with tags off.

JoggyBear · 26/11/2024 13:18

They're the M&S wide leg cords BTW

And an added PITA is that 12 seems to be OOS online and in all local stores.

I'm about 11st, I'm 5'10 and half a stone does make a difference but if you are older, I'm mid 60s it doesn't seem to go off your waistline that easily so might not make much difference to comfort, depends on your age and body shape

I'm 40 and the last 20lbs have made a huge, huge difference to my waist. It's the last place it's come off but it finally happened 🤣

For me, there are fewer pounds between sizes. I was in size 14s for a LONG time while losing weight (probably from about 12 stone to around 10 1/2 stone). Between 10 1/2 stone and 10, I was a 12. Suddenly, under 10 stone, I am a 10, with plenty of space.

This is exactly how I was
My tum stayed put for a long time then it all came off at about 10st7lbs which is why I'm hoping 7lbs will make a difference in the tum.

Given your description, I definitely think the 10s will fit comfortably if you lose a tiny bit more. Enjoy your new pants! (I have to say, wearing pants without feeling that they were slicing me in half all day is one of the best things about losing weight).

ByHardyRubyEagle · 26/11/2024 13:35

Given that 7lbs is half a stone, yes it makes a difference. It’s quite a lot of weight.

Anonym00se · 26/11/2024 13:38

I’ve lost 3 stone and only gone down one dress size from a 16 to a 14 so it wouldn’t make too much difference to me. I’m now exactly 150lbs!

RedRiverShore5 · 26/11/2024 13:38

I think the smaller might be ok if they only feel a little tight, a few pounds will make them feel easier,

SophiaSW1 · 26/11/2024 13:41

Yes a big difference

Time40 · 26/11/2024 13:41

7 pounds would make a big difference to me - it's the difference between a pair of trousers being a good fit and being far too tight to wear.

MounjaroUser · 26/11/2024 13:44

Yes, keep the trousers. Congratulations on your weight loss. You must feel amazing.

MorrisZapp · 26/11/2024 13:49

I'm around that weight, and I can honestly say there's ten pounds between my 'nothing fits, look shite' weight and my 'omg are you actually JLo' weight. Tight margins.

I could go a full size down with a seven pound loss.

Jlo 🤣

It's quite mad really. When I was over 200lbs I could gain 20lbs and not even realise but now I bloat on my period and I'm so aware of it

It's crazy but I don't think my head has caught up yet! I'm not sure how I feel tbh

Yes this is my experience, I was nearly 300lbs at one point and could go up or down a stone or more and not even notice

If Im just around 10,2 my size 10s are a bit loose or just comfortable, if Im around 10,7 Im into the 12s and my work trousers dont do up I have to leave the top button undone!

@MorrisZapp Absolutely, I definitely turn into a JLo look-a-like when I lose a few pounds (crosses fingers and toes). 😆

I agree with PP's that a few pounds makes a big difference to how well clothes fit, it certainly does for me.

dudsville · 26/11/2024 20:44

I know it's different but I'm normally 160, but have shot up to 168, and the fixed waist skirt I wore today didn't fit properly.

Harvestmoon49 · 26/11/2024 20:53

I'm roughly 128 pounds and I find that just putting on the teeniest bit of weight makes me feel uncomfortable and my clothes look a bit tight. It's depressing!!!

downwindofyou · 26/11/2024 22:18

If they are tight atm then with half a stone off they'll likely fit nicely. Not too big. To be a size 8 you'd be likely to be a fair bit less than 143lb. So 10 sounds right.

I'm 140lbs right now and aim to be 133 x

I don't think I've ever been a size 8 in my life

I think I went from age 12/13 to a womens 12!
