Can’t believe I’ve just ordered cordrouy trousers!

From M and S, and in brown!

Yes, I’m fell for all the ‘cords are in’ hype and just ordered some cord flare trousers from M and S in ‘bitter chocolate’. I went in store intending to get the reddish wide leg pair, but then saw brown pair and thought I’d get more use out of them, and liked the flare style better than wide leg (which aren’t too wide leg).

(Ordered because wanted to compare long and regular pair, and both sizes weren’t in store last night at Bluewater, else I would have brought them there).

Don’t think I’ve worn cords since the 70 s!

Have a really good look at them before you keep them. The cords I bought from M&S last winter fell apart before the spring. The fabric was such poor quality the seams of the pockets and belt loops pulled it apart.

That's bad luck. I have M&S cords that are 2 years old and look brand new even though I wear them all the time.

Hattysbackpack · 17/11/2024 06:34

I had chocolate brown cord trousers aged 20 in 2004, bought from Oasis. Cord is classic! I've had cord skirts and dresses since but also bought the M&S cord wide leg trousers recently. Mine are black.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 17/11/2024 06:37

I bought a wide legged pair from next with a tie waist… very soft and comfy for easy wear. I’ve a couple of cord skirts i’ve had for years. Such a good fabric which lasts.

RedRiverShore5 · 17/11/2024 06:38

I saw a nice pair of brown flared cords in Next but couldn't bring myself to buy them as I wore similar in the 70s, they look nice though. I wear cords a lot though and have a pair of the M&S brown wide leg from last year.

I got a gorgeous pair of green wide leg cords from Lands End. They are so soft and cosy! I've been wearing them with shirts for work and teeshirts and jumpers for the rest of the time. In fact, hardly had them off since they arrived.

Currently lusting after a red pair on Me + Em.....probably too extravagant.

Babbahabba · 17/11/2024 13:43

I wore corduroy flares in the 90s! Loved them.

BurntBroccoli · 17/11/2024 14:15

I have several corduroy A line mini skirts but not any trousers. Will have to investigate!

nowtygaffer · 17/11/2024 14:32

Whenever I wear my cords my husband calls me Nigel Farage. I don't think he means it as a compliment! I'm wearing them anyway.

BinkyBeaufort · 17/11/2024 14:39

I've been wearing my last year's M&S dark green cords, but had to change as they start slipping down after a couple of hours. And they shrink lengthwise even on a 30 degree wash, dried on an airer.
But even in the 70s cords got shorter and shorter over time. So if anyone can recommend some that don't go slack and short I'd be grateful.

I put a belt on with my one, I know what you mean and then the vest tops ride up

SusanWingroveSmith · 17/11/2024 14:46

Lost another one to the pandemic🤦‍♀️

I adore cords. I’m so pleased they are in at the moment with so much choice. I’ve got a wide leg pair in a dark orange from Uniqlo that I love and will be haunting the sales for other pairs to give me a stash for when they disappear again.

I have the same ones, they're great, softer than jeans and they don't seem to pick up every piece of cat hair in my house. I wore them yesterday walking through some beech leaves and they almost match the colour.

HarrietBond · 17/11/2024 14:54

I’ve got some from Uniqlo that are high waisted so no slackness there. They are lovely.

Cord shirt someone said. I had one that was difficult to wear, it dragged so when putting a jacket on over it. Gripped everything.
Anyone else had this happen?

ShowOfHands · 17/11/2024 16:03

I am currently wearing M&S cords I bought in 2001. They're a plum colour and still good as new.

They never actually went out of fashion I don't think. My 17yr old dd has been wearing them for years as well.

ainkeepsfalling · 17/11/2024 16:13

I love my M&S cords 😂

Arlanymor · 17/11/2024 16:17

I bought these a couple of weeks back because I was out and had got ice cream down my jeans. I was in a town without many clothes shops and it was in the sale, so job done. But turns out I bloody love them! So comfortable, they look class and every time I wear them I get compliments! I am actually tempted to go back and by another pair because they are actually a little big for me, even though I bought my usual size! So they make me feel thin as well! They’re magic!

I have the bitter chocolate ones and love them so much Ive just ordered the claret, been waiting for them to come back into stock in my size so they're obviously popular! Warm and I can smarten them up and wear them for work. I LOVE cords 😍

DancingFerret · 17/11/2024 17:04

I love the M&S straight leg cords and have them in all the colours, with the exception of beige. They're not stocking the red ones this year, unfortunately. The only problem I have with them is the leg length; I buy size 12 short, but still have to take them up. There was a time when I could buy M&S trousers without the need to alter them; these days they've decreed short is for people who stand 5'3" as a minimum.

StormingNorman · 17/11/2024 17:07

Sitting here in my M&S cords right now. I got the cream ones with the pleats.

The red wide legs looked really odd on - very disappointing - and I’m not quite ready to embrace the bootcut yet 😂 I’m sure I will eventually.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 17/11/2024 17:09

I have a cropped, wide leg Seasalt pair of cords in a dark grey which are absolutely lovely, but just a fraction too short for me. I'm 5ft11, and they just land at a weird length. But I wear them to work from home as they're comfy with a chunky jumper.
In fact, after this thread, I reckon I'll wear them tomorrow now it's colder.

Cally102 · 17/11/2024 17:10

Sorry if already discussed but what footwear goes with wide legged full-length black cords?

BinkyBeaufort · 17/11/2024 17:30

I wish I could wear the wide-leg ones but I'm only 5'2 and shaped like a barrel.

Sayoonara · 17/11/2024 17:31

I love cord - I have dresses, a skirt and 2 blouses.

I tried the M&S straight leg cords yesterday but they didn't fit my shape at all - too loose at waist and unflattering around the bum. I've ordered Seasalt straight ones so fingers crossed they fit.

RampantIvy · 17/11/2024 17:40

I've ordered Seasalt straight ones so fingers crossed they fit.

Which ones did you order @Sayoonara?

I have the Crackington ones. They fit slightly on the large side, but I can confirm that they don't shrink in length.
