Dressing gown possibilities

Thinking of asking for a dressing gown for Christmas. My dilemma is: fleece is light and cosy but can look a bit scraggy quite quickly. Cotton towelling stays looking nice but is heavy and not very cosy. Please someone tell me I'm wrong (especially with recommendations).
I particularly like:

I have one of these, it's towelling inside and velour outside so you get the best of both worlds.

Yes, I have the Pip Studio one as well. Had it for years and it still looks immaculate

It is cosy and not sweaty like fleece at all

This is the one for me

I have this Christy velour one - 100% cotton.

Sorry to hi-jack this very helpful thread, but does anyone know of any black plus-sized long dressing gowns that are not calf length? I really dislike the "white legs sticking out the bottom" look 😄. Looking for something made of warm material but not thick fleece. Without a hood!

goingdownfighting · 05/11/2024 19:16

I have the Rituals one.

Velour on the outside, Terry on the inside, 100% cotton and very comfy.

I have one of the dressing gowns from Oodie. It is without a doubt the best dressing gown I've ever tried. It's fluffy, incredibly soft, really cosy, looks amazing (to me) and it's not gone bobbly or scraggy despite a lot of washes over the past couple of years. Highly recommend AND they have a Black Friday sale on at the moment so they're half price 😁
Mine is the pink flower power print but I think that might be sold out. Plenty other choices though.

I have this one in a different colour it is 5 or 6 years old, still looks good, is toasty warm and I love the hood as I'm often tramping round the garden first thing in the morning after the dogs.

Came here to recommend this one! I bloody love it. FWIW I also have their waffle cotton one for summer (I did well with dressing gowns as birthdays pressies one year!) and it's sooo soft.

I also have a very old but lovely Toast one - a double-faced flannel full-length robe - but I tripped over the bugger and whacked my head on a wall, so that one's going on Vinted!

Oblomov24 · 05/11/2024 20:27

I'm looking for a new one. I live in mine (as my username suggests!) so this is a VERY important purchase.

I need long sleeves, long, no hood, thick and fleecy/comfy.

I made a lovely full length one years ago in royal blue velvet. I used a wrap dress pattern, extending the length and cutting it on the bias.

@Illneverutteracrosswordagain7 would the Oodie dressing gowns not work for you? They do them in Oodie size which is basically 6XL so would still be big on plus sizes. Even their small/medium isn't at all small. Not sure how tall you are. I'm a little over 5' and it's hugely long on me which I love Smile

The Toast ones might suit you although I've just looked and they don't have any floor-length ones at the mo - worth keeping an eye out, although they're an investment!

flowersintheattix · 05/11/2024 21:17

@Illneverutteracrosswordagain7 just realised you said without a hood. Sorry.

Hi. It depends on the cotton towelling you're talking about. I have seen some of them very pretty

PiggyPigalle · 05/11/2024 21:39

Look for Plush rather than Fleece. Fleece is tufty, plush more silky.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/11/2024 21:50

I bought the Seasalt Hushing gown a few months ago and it's lovely. The sizing is generous. I bought the blue and green one but have seen the pinky browny flowered one and it was very nice too.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 05/11/2024 21:54

We have bought loads of the British Boxers flannel / brushed cotton. Very light but so warm, looks smart, nice and long for tall people. Really recommend.

Slenderella have some lovely long button or zip up dressing gowns and go up to a size 26 I think. Non-hooded too! I don't think they do black though 😬

Jmaho · 05/11/2024 22:23

I spent weeks last year searching for the perfect dressing gown for my husband to buy me for Xmas. Ordered several, all got sent back
Finally settled on a very light cream (what was I thinking?) Full length, hooded, velour one from House of Fraser. Hate it. Its uncomfortable, get too hot and the hood is too big.
It looks nice hanging on the door in the bathroom though. I've gone back to my husbands 20 year old navy blue fleece one from Sainsburys. Don't think I'll ever beat it

PiggyPigalle · 05/11/2024 22:23

I'm tempted by the Joe Browns one, the back of it's a bit special.
