it kind of goes against everything I said I'd do but I've fallen in love with it.
here

tell me to pull myself together and spend the money on something else.

That's a skirt at £995

Indith · 25/04/2008 13:59

Well, ultimately tis up to you, do you buy it and go over budget, do you spend less on something else to compensate.....

Though personally I think that as soon as you move all those artistically layered folds will crumple.

DaisySteiner · 25/04/2008 14:00

Depends whether you can afford it. If you can, go for it, but not worth getting into debt for IMO.

MrsBadger · 25/04/2008 14:00

if you can't afford it and/or will go into debt for it, yes it is madness

but bearing in mind how much it's reduced from, it sounds quite sensible...

[slap]

pull yourself together!

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:00

The skirt is on one page and the bodice on another but there is a photo of it altogether at the bottom on the right.

Pull your self together.

Tis stunning, tho'

Tortington · 25/04/2008 14:01

yep- its obscene

MamaG · 25/04/2008 14:01

Can I be horribly honest and say if I saw someone walk down teh aisle in that, I wouldn't think "ooh Vivienne Westwood" I'd think "ooh Granny's curtains"

"I think that as soon as you move all those artistically layered folds will crumple."

mmmmm... normally I'd agree but I think VW knows her tailoring.

Try it. Buy it.

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:03

honesty is goo
Thing is that I am never ever going to have a traditional white wedding dress, it's just not me. I just love the cut of VW's dresses, and that kind of bodice and full skirt malarky suits my figure.

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:03

honesty is good not goo

No one cuts better than Viv! For any figure.

OrmIrian · 25/04/2008 14:04

It's lovely but I fear it would end up looking simply a mess. It's a lot of money but if you have it to spend....

I think you need to try it on.

hermionegrangerat34 · 25/04/2008 14:04

Do you go to balls etc so you could get more use out of it? It is lovely and different.
But I still think its a ridiculous amount of money to spend on an item of clothing - as MrsBadger says, do it if you can afford it, but DON'T go into debt for it.

And if you want to sell it secondhand afterwards...looks v nice and I DO go to lots of balls (for my job)....

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:06

Oh bugger, I know, I know. I would have to put on a credit card (eek) but there I would be able to pay it off by end of year (getting married in August). But is is madness isn't it? to spend all that money on something I'd wear once. Don't go to balls at all (mores the pity!)

ladytophamhatt · 25/04/2008 14:07

Althoygh I agree with teh dress being lovely, the material looks like some old biddies curtains.

Sorry.

whitesheep · 25/04/2008 14:07

Nice dress, and I'm sure it's beautiful quality, but this is a crazy amount to spend on one dress.

I can see it would be difficult to copy, but you must be able to get a bespoke dress made along these lines for less than this.

Tutter · 25/04/2008 14:08

if you can't affod it, yes

if you can, and you like it, no

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:11

I suspect I'm in danger of getting carried away with the whole 'but it's only once in your life, most important day etc etc' and losing sight of cashflow!

OP posts:
katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:13

Out of interest I wonder what the average spend on a wedding dress is?

OP posts:
WowOoo · 25/04/2008 14:14

Think of your honeymoon. That's what I did and it was the best 2 weeks of my life!!

NorthernLurker · 25/04/2008 14:15

It's madness - utter and total madmess! Shall I try to put you off by adding that you will look like you have been attacked by a very nice pair of curtains? Or will it be more effective if I point out that every step you take in it you will be hearing a voice that says' don't tear me I cost x' 'don't spill on me I cost x' 'small child - don't come near me I am wearing x amount' Not what you want is it?

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:15

we won't be having a honeymoon - we've got two young ds
