it kind of goes against everything I said I'd do but I've fallen in love with it.
here

tell me to pull myself together and spend the money on something else.

Umm, on the grounds that my wedding dress cost £2k (and we weren't nearly as affluent then as we are now), I'd say go for it if you really want it and can pay it off quickly. Make sure you use a 0% card or do a balance transfer to one though!

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:16

keep going, I feel sanity returning...

its gorgeous.
if it wont drive you into bankruptcy, then i think you should go for it. it's your wedding dress, and hey, its on sale now, to under a grand!

fwiw, i spent a months salary on my wedding dress, and i have never regretted it.

WowOoo · 25/04/2008 14:17

I had mine made for me and spent £200. Looked great too!

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:17

hello CantSleepWontSleep - do you remember me? I'm the one with the baby (well he's 14 months now) that had a cows milk intolerance, just wanted to say, thank you so much for the advice.

Oh God, just seen it! Would never spend that much on that kind of outfit. Sorry.

katierocket · 25/04/2008 14:18

"that much on that kind of outfit" LOL

How about putting money towards nice holiday for four then?

MamaG · 25/04/2008 14:19

katierocket - spend £200 having it made and £1000 on a honeymoon/famioy holiday - we took our 3 year old DD on our "honeymoon"

beansmum · 25/04/2008 14:19

It's not madness to spend £1200 on a wedding dress, it is madness to spend £1200 on THAT wedding dress.

NorthernLurker · 25/04/2008 14:20

It's on sale beacuse nobody else is mad enough to buy it

Also - I am familiar with that brand and they have never been forgiven for what one of their bitchy assistants said to my b/f. Ok - it was 12 years ago but still....

Seriously - you can do better.

WowOoo · 25/04/2008 14:20

I know what you mean and if you feel you would look and feel great in in, go for gold. But, I feel I wasted my money as I felt great in dress and then 'slipped into something more comfortable' for the evening (which was more than £200 worth but stuff that I wore again)

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/04/2008 14:26

Hi katie - yes, I remember you well . Has he grown out of it yet?

miamla · 25/04/2008 14:26

katierocket, personally i think its gorgeous. if its the style you love, a dressmaker could make that for far less than £1200. A bit trickier if its the fabric but personally i think the style would be more suited to a plainer fabric.
email me if you want more info re finding a dressmaker and fees etc. i don't want to say more on here for fear of being told off for advertising!
email is miamla @ hotmail.com

I spent that much on a wedding dress. I knew I could afford it & it was the dress that made me feel great - and (imho) look fabulous. Do I regret it? In retrospect, it feels like a ludicrous amount of money for one day's worth of dress. But it was 'my' dress, so it was worth it.

OTOH, mine was made to fit - unless you've tried this one on & it fits you wonderfully, then all this speculation is in vain.

newgirl · 25/04/2008 14:43

i have no problem whatsoever in spending lots of money on an amazing dress for your wedding - life is so bloody dull and sensible sometimes i think you should go for it - if it makes you feel amazing then it is worth every penny.

not entirely sure the dress is right for august though- will you be ok if it is a very hot day? dancing? maybe something easier to wear? though of course expensive and fabulous

katierocket · 25/04/2008 15:11

OK, thanks so much for all the feedback. On reflection I think it's probably not 100% right. Have made appoitnment to go and visit a nearby bespoke wedding dress lady (although I suspect that her fees will be astronomically high) and see if I can get something perfect.

Can'tsleep - YEs! it was a miracle, after 4 months of hell, I cut out dairy and within 10 days he was the happiest little bundle ever. (subsequent trip to paed confirmed it) thanks again,

BTW funnypeculiar - I agree about the fitting thing. I felt in retrospect that if i was going to spend that money it should fit me like a glove.

bespoke sounds like a good idea - so special to have something made for you.

CountessDracula · 25/04/2008 15:19

It looks like the dresses made from curtains in the sound of music

Can;t you just buy some curtain material and pin it round in a messy stley?
