it kind of goes against everything I said I'd do but I've fallen in love with it.
here

tell me to pull myself together and spend the money on something else.

that pattern is yukky - sorry

helenelisabeth · 25/04/2008 15:37

I would and spent double that - 8 years ago mine cost £2,200! I sold it before I had even worn it (long story, I did still wear it on my wedding day!) for £1400 so it was a good buy but I would have still paid that even if it was stuck in a box at the bottom of my wardrobe.

IMO though before you make an impulse purchase, go to a designer and see what they can do. For that money my cousin had a stunning dress made just for her but you are cutting it fine time wise!

Good luck and congratulations!

go for it, if you really want it AND it looks fabulous on. I was in shock at spending a similar amount on my dress 5 years ago, but it made me look fabulous, which is a rare feeling for me. with our wedding, we focused in on the couple of things which really meant something to us and only spent money on that. so many other things (flowers here there and everywhere, posh stationery, etc, little "favours" for people, inviting relatives you don't like) are either not worth bothering with or can easily replicated at home (we made our own stationery, for example)

I had mine made - a fab woman with a shop in great missenden - she makes very expensive dresses but i said what i wanted and it was 800 - it fit perfectly and suited me. She hand sewed on beads that i chose from her collection. So it doesnt have to be vastly expensive as long as you are honest about what you want

I think it's wonderful, and you can wear it again, in two parts. The skirt with a vest top and the corset with jeans. I'd buy it, if you can pay the money off.

Excuse me - I have a raw silk dress in two parts, that I did wear again seperately till I gained baby weight...

so wear it to weddings!

noddyholder · 27/04/2008 10:35

Have you ever worn it?Or do you have a perfect figure and a slip of silk looks fab.It really does fit and if the op loves it then why are you as per usual trying to slate it?You shop at next fgs

Moomin · 27/04/2008 10:43

I had my wedding dress made - hated all the stuff in the shops. I wanted all the colours from a sikh wedding - reds and oranges and so had a bodice made in this dusky red colour and skirt in orangey/gold shot silk. Still cost £600 and I loved it at the time.

Now 8 years later I think it was a HUGE waste of money and hasn't 'aged' well in the pics . I thought it was fab but I could tell not everyone did, just because it wasn't the 'norm'. I know think it was over-priced and I should have chosen something that was still 'me' but off the peg. The colours suited me but I do wish I'd had something more classic now.

I think much of what's spent on a wedding is a massive waste of money anyway, so feel free to ignore me as I'm bitter and twisted!

crapcook · 27/04/2008 12:14

I think it is beautiful and individual. Nothing wrong with a bit of individuality from a bride as everyone seems to stump for the same boring look nowadays.

I think you would stand out in a good way and would feel like a queen - that is if it fits you well.

Totally agree about Viv's cuts. There is nothing poncey about saying that her styles are cut to fit real women with boobs and hips.

I say go for it if you can afford it.

I spent about that amount .. don't forget shoes, accessories, hair too

I think if you can afford it it's not madness but if you can't and that includes sticking it on a credit card till December then it is

so at the moment it's £1200 .. by the time you've paid if off .. 8 months down the line .. giving a 20% ROI you're talking more like £1,400

Gobbledigook · 27/04/2008 15:10

I think barmy. I spent a meagre £350 on mine and I'm glad because it's been sat in a box on the top of my wardrobe for the last 10 years and there it will probably stay for another 50 odd.

Tinker · 27/04/2008 15:31

It is madness, especially if you're having to put it on a credit card.

Gobbledigook · 27/04/2008 16:04

And I agree - you could make that dress with a length of Laura Ashley curtain and a box of safety pins.

moondog · 27/04/2008 16:06

It's a minger alriaght.

NappiesGalore · 27/04/2008 18:41

i love that dress!
