Charity Shop Bargain

I just had to share my charity shop bargain with you all. I've recently got into charity shops and I've bought quite a few nice things for me and my son but nothing I would class as a massive bargain, however today as I walked in I saw the most gorgeous vibrant pink winter coat in my size. It was only £12 and the label showed today's date so it had just gone out, so after trying it on and it fitting perfectly I bought it. The brand wasn't one I'd heard of before 'Damsel in a Dress' so I gave it a Google after I'd left and the coat is no longer available but retailed at £299!!!! It is in perfect condition - this has honestly made my week. I'd love to hear if any of you have had a better bargain x

Items are dated 2 weeks in advance from when they come in btw but sounds nice 🙂

I had similar a few years ago - I found a coat by Jigsaw for £9. Went home and googled, still selling at £250. I still love that coat.

Cudz · 27/10/2024 18:14

@Oblahdeeoblahdoe such a bargain I love Jigsaw! I'm already planning on what outfit I can wear my new coat with tomorrow I'm so excited to wear it 🤗

I know the feeling 😀

@Morven7 ah this one must work differently then as the woman who served me commented that the coat had only just gone out today and she wished that she'd put it aside for herself

Bought a pair of Le Creuset baby pink salt and pepper pots for £1.50 - they are about £40 each new

Cudz · 27/10/2024 18:19

My favourite recent charity shop find wasn't especially a bargain, but it was the reincarnation of my much loved leather handbag from a few years ago. Only a high street brand, but I loved that handbag, because it had all the right pockets, a good secure zip and a handle of exactly the right length. I wept salt tears the day that it finally wore out beyond repair and I had to bin it.

The woman in the charity shop was pleased but baffled to swe me skipping around the shop with glee when I randomly found its twin, in perfect condition for 12 quid.

I feel like we all need to see this coat. It sounds amazing!

Britpopbaby · 27/10/2024 18:21

I saw a lovely wool and angora mix coat at the weekend by Windsmoore I think for £25. Whoever buys it is getting a bargain!

ShowOfHands · 27/10/2024 18:23

I got a coat for a fiver around a decade ago. It was a swing style, pure wool with a silk lining and clearly new.

It was a designer coat, still for sale for £350. It is Italian. It's still immaculate.

Cudz · 27/10/2024 18:23

This thread is making me feel so happy. Vinted is good but I feel that people are now quite clued up on how to price things whereas in charity shops there is still that opportunity to find an absolute diamond of a bargain!

@Beepbeepoutoftheway here is a screenshot of the coat on one of the sold out websites. Not to everyone's taste I know, but I've been wanting a pink winter coat for ages as I mainly wear blacks and grey's through winter and this adds a pop of colour. It's lovely and fitted on.

I recently ought a pair of wine coloured suede Margaux boots in perfect condition for $6.99. The normal retail price is $450ish.

Cudz · 27/10/2024 18:33

@mathanxiety wow had they had much wear? They sound amazing!

I got a damsel in a dress coat for £20 a few years ago. It's black single breasted and beautiful. It's an American 20 so a UK 16 and has never fitted me but I love it. I have lost four stone since last Winter so I'll try it again when it gets cold enough, I hope this is the year. I love yours.

I used to live by the Sue Ryder shop that Heather Mills, the ex of Paul McCartney donated their old clothes to and got some right bargains. They lived next to Zoe Ball and Norman Cook and had a few of theirs too.

Cudz · 27/10/2024 18:45

@Doggymummar I would love to do a weekend visit to a really high end part of London and spend it scouring charity shops for bargains although I have read that lots of people now do this and the charity shops price high so not really any bargains to be had these days. I'd never heard of Damsel in a Dress before but the quality is really lovely isn't it x

That's a beautiful coat, a lucky find for you!

Londonmummy66 · 27/10/2024 18:50

Actually the best charity shop bargain I ever had was a grey Harris tweed coat by Dior. It cost £20 about 35 years ago but it is still going strong and looks great. I had to get the sleeves relined a couple of years ago -which I got done with a beautiful but ripped Thai silk scarf so I get a lovely flash of green when i put it on.

Doggymummar · 27/10/2024 18:50

It's in Brighton but yes, round Notting Hill or Chelsea would be good.

Ellmau · 27/10/2024 18:56

It looks lovely, OP, enjoy wearing it!

That's an interesting way to do it - the one I volunteer in, we put the date it goes out, and do a shelf check weekly to pull anything that's been there more than 3 weeks (usually more than 2 weeks).

Do love a bargain though - my best was a pair of Moshulu boots that would have sold new at £150, (looked as though they'd been maybe worn once) which I got for £30.

Do you work for the same shop the OP bought the coat in? What an amazing coincidence! 🙄

wendywoopywoo222 · 27/10/2024 19:09

I got a beautiful pink Barbour jacket which was like new about 20 years ago for a fiver.

That's a lovley coat.

triggers34 · 27/10/2024 20:30

That's a gorgeous coat . Like you I've recently got into charity shops. Well the last couple of years . I'm at the point that most of my clothes are thrifted . I've got some really lovely things. My current coat which I found last year is a vintage wool cashmere mix -£7 .

A few weeks ago I found in Haddington Scotland 2 fair-isle hand knit jumpers -£16 for them both.

Back in the summer I picked up 2 cashmere jumpers £3 each Ballantyne- just dug them out to wear and googled the brand -they're £300 ish new 😱

To date my bestest finds were a welsh wool blanket-£25 and a sterling silver Clint Orms cowboy buckke - 50p .
