I love art deco design - very much liking those in the link 👑

How did Margaret pull off flogging the royal gems I wonder.

QueryA · 30/10/2024 14:17

The Malaysian royals seem to have loads of lovely tiaras. Lucky ladies.

I suspect without Lilibet's say so....

It may well have been given/bequeathed to her personally, or left to the Queen who in turn may have given it to Margaret. If so it would have legitimately been hers to sell.

But she could just as easily have decided to sell it without permission, I suppose! After all who was going to stop her!

I wish the Poltimore tiara was in the Royal Vault. I'd love to see it again.

Maireas · 30/10/2024 15:42

@AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras - I agree with all your points. I'm also a bit sad that the Politmore tiara was sold, it's absolutely stunning!

Oh yes, skimmed it first time around and missed it - the article says it was an 18th birthday present. I'd imagine it was given to her personally and not in a 'borrow this from the vault' arrangement.

Yes, her personal possession, so hers to sell.

And of course she bought the Poltimore herself. So that, too, was her personal possession to sell.

I can't remember, did she sell it when she was alive or was it sold after her death?

Yes, she bought it for her wedding to Armstrong Jones. It was sold at auction after her death, by her son. I think it went for £8m to an overseas buyer. It's not been seen since, I believe.

It must have been nice for her to have a few things that were just hers, not on loan with the say-so of her big sister. I know in many ways she was an appalling woman, but her life was genuinely very sad, I think. Not least because QEtQM didn't really believe in education for girls, and she does seem to have been smart.

Sophie in her role as patron of Guide Dogs for the Blind. I think she nails the outfit although I do see she’s tied her hair back with a scrunchie.
And Mary has gone to Australia with Josephine leaving Fred behind. Not sure about the other kids.

I love Sophie's outfit. Cute picture with the dog!

That outfit is spot on for Sophie. The fitted jacket, long skirt and boots are a 10/10 from me!

EverybodyLovesString · 01/11/2024 02:56

That's a lovely outfit on Sophie. The fit and proportions suit her so well.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 01/11/2024 06:37

Agreed.

Here's a Q&A from Lady Glenconner with a few interesting snippets, but posted mostly because her wedding dress in one of the pictures is so lovely:

Agreed - Sophie looks great. Spot on.

justasking111 · 01/11/2024 08:43

Reading Matte Merritt is really poorly again. Poor woman

Choux · 01/11/2024 08:53

She's having a tough time at the moment with both her illness and the investigation into her son's alleged behaviour. A Norwegian publication reported this week that Marius has had his driving licence revoked after doctors recommendations and has also lost his access to the secured area around the royal residence at Skaugum. So he is no longer able to visit his family at will. The police investigation is ongoing.

Fergie at a book signing in Australia. She has very slim legs.

No black tights hurray 👏

Eaumyword · 01/11/2024 22:17

Fergie does love a '90's look! I just think she can look a bit dated - Sophie looks fabulous in contrast with her jacket and long skirt combo.

KillingMeDeftIy · 01/11/2024 22:43

Sophie's outfit is a bit of a snooze for me but I am generally not keen on what she wears. But it's appropriate for the occasion and she looks happy to meet the pooch!

KillingMeDeftIy · 01/11/2024 22:44

And I have to hand it to Fergie for her ability to promote herself!
