Both last night and today were solemn occasions so there are lots of photos where Kate isn't smiling which adds years. The outdoor lighting is also unflattering. But there are several shots today where Kate looks tired with puffy eyes. She also looks close to tears in a couple of shots.

I imagine she's feeling a lot more mortal now than she did at last year's remembrance events and the nature of the events brings thoughts of death. And an evening event followed by a morning event was a test of stamina for her. Plus without Camila there she is the most senior female on the balcony which brings an added layer of pressure. With Charles having been ill as well, being Queen must seem frighteningly close when she isn't back to full health yet.

SqueakyDinosaur · 10/11/2024 21:33

And she's always said to be very close to Charles, too, so it's not just the prospect of the job change but that of the loss of a beloved FiL and grandpa.

I'm always slightly emotional at village Remembrance Service that I attend every year but this morning I was much more so. My dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and while he has no military background or link to remembrance it just made all thoughts of death, pain and suffering cut that bit deeper. I'm sure with QEII's death and the cancer diagnosis for both Kate and Charles emotions are running higher for the Royals than they were a few years ago.

Sorry to hear your Dad is unwell @Runningupthecurtains

Thanks @deeahgwitch.

I thought Charles looked emotional during the wreath laying.

DeepKhakiCrab · 11/11/2024 21:27

I really like what Sophie Edinburgh was wearing at the National Arboretum today. She looked very sophisticated.

I thought Charles looked emotional during the wreath laying.

I agree but I think he has looked equally emotional on each of the previous occasions since he became King. After his mother died, it was the first main public event after the funeral. Let's hope next year is kinder to him and the rest of his family.

SqueakyDinosaur · 11/11/2024 21:35

I think also that we are conditioned by 70+ years of QEII's absolute poker face, especially in the last 20 years of her reign. Charles is clearly much more outwardly emotional. I really like that he refers to his family as beloved.

justasking111 · 11/11/2024 22:45

OH I'd want to unpinned that and start again.

Runningupthecurtains · 11/11/2024 22:47

But WTAF is going on with William's coat hem?
DH is at least the third person to be issued his RAF great coat but I assume as a Royal and an officer William is issued a new one. I will have a look to see if I have any pictures of DH in his to see if the hem is similarly visible but I can't think I've ever seen him wear it.

themessygarden · 11/11/2024 22:48

Catherine looked very serene, I thought, and her smile just lights up her face, but she does look drawn, which isn't surprising in the least after the ordeal she has been through for almost a year now, if not longer.

She is so elegant and looked great at both events, I actually like the velvet bow and velvet button update to the coat.

Choux · 12/11/2024 20:54

I posted at the weekend how I had just got a pearl similar to the one Kate wore. It's the exact same one. I love it.

Papergirl1968 · 12/11/2024 21:00

Camilla hosting a Booker prize reception but still unwell and only doing some of her scheduled engagements. A pinafore dress is a change of style for her.
And Beatrice at an engagement and on a night out.

Leti in what was described as a green suit although it looked more grey to me, and Anne looking good despite her flight to Glasgow being delayed and diverted due to fog.

I think it's difficult to get the cut and fit of trouser suits right, somehow. I like the colour and style of Anne's jacket, I'm less keen on the rest of the outfit. Her brooch looks interesting.

I've always been fond of a pinafore dress in the winter. Keep you warm and you can throw a cardigan over it. I worked in a very cold council office for a few years. The pinafore was a blessing.

KillingMeDeftIy · 12/11/2024 21:55

I saw some photos of Leti on Instagram and the suit was definitely green.

Meanwhile Rania is on a mission to bring back stirrup pants!

Stirrup pants and spike heels! Also...is that a body?

KillingMeDeftIy · 12/11/2024 21:57

It is indeed @Maireas!

Eaumyword · 12/11/2024 22:23

Holy 1980's, Rania! Stirrup pants, really?! 🤢
While we're at it, Bea's giant 'breakfast is for wimps' Wall Street shoulder pads are also a bit much!
I rather like Cam's pinafore dress. Looks comfy and cosy and quite nice with her trusty boots.

frugalkitty · 12/11/2024 22:37

Ski pants!!! Well, hello 1985! I had a peach pair 😂

Maireas · 12/11/2024 22:39

peach ski pants?!
Perfect. I had stirrup pamts and bodies and a collection of large dangling earrings. Oh and I think I wore frosted lipstick.
