Appropriate for a funeral?

I have a funeral next week. I've recently lost weight so my usual (extensive black wardrobe) doesn't fit.

I've been looking online and have seen a pair of wide legged faux leather trousers which I really like. However, I'm unsure whether they are appropriate for a funeral due to the fabric. I would wear them with a fitted black roll neck jumper or a black blouse of some description.

My thoughts are that they are something I would wear again as opposed to buying a pair of normal wide legged black trousers which I wouldn't wear again.

What would you think of someone wearing these?

I'd think they were fine, whole outfit sounds fine. But I'm not a great stickler for formality or ceremony. What relationship are you to the deceased and we're they young or old?

I get why you're asking, but... I don't think pleather comes off great in this context.

If you've really no use for a LBD, I'd get a pair of non-pleather black wide-legs.

I think for funerals it depends on the individuals - some are more relaxed, some are extremely formal. If you are the immediate family, wear whatever you want.

My general rule for funerals (or interviews) is that once the context is considered, if in doubt, don't.

The whole point of dressing for a funeral is to avoid standing out and those trousers are very "look at me"
If it was a person who worked in fashion, or if you do, they're fine.
If you are an ordinary person, you risk looking like you want to make it all about you..

if one of my more fashionable friends died I'm sure those trousers would be great. I wouldn't be wearing them to the funeral of my granny.

It really depends on who the funeral is for, what role you play, and what the immediate family are likely to want/expect.

My first thought was that they were a ‘evening going out’ wear, rather than a funeral. Or I’d assume you’d just come from meeting friends at the pub.

Funerals I have been to have been 'wear something smart and a bit dull' rather than 'wear black '

Especially in autumn/winter when no-one buys a black coat specially.

Personally I think they'd be a bit OTT for a funeral, a pair of regular cloth ones would be better and more suitable for other everyday occasions. Then again people wear all sorts for a funeral these days, always a revelation for me when I have a funeral to go to and you see other funerals and what their guests are wearing.

Why be dull? I quite like the idea that people might get a bit dressed up for my funeral. Why not celebrate the deceased by wearing something you consider to be stylish and when did it become the norm to dress soooooo boringly for funerals. We dress up for weddings and other big life events, why not dress up for a funeral.

Surely you can find something that you'd both wear again and isn't this? What was in your black and no longer fitting wardrobe? Can't you get something in a similar style as you did wear before or alter something you already have to fit you now?

Maybe OP likes clothes in a different style now she's lost weight? I know I like different styles when I'm different sizes.

They would be absolutely fine in my opinion for a funeral as people dress in all sorts of things. It wouldn’t even have entered my head that they wouldn't be okay. Only you know what type of crowd will be at the funeral so no one here can really answer your question.

Do you have anything in grey or navy or anything else dark/dull in your wardrobe? None of the funerals I have been to recently have had everyone wearing full on black, most people were just wearing something dark and smart looking.

Just get a cheap black dress. Your previous wardrobe was all black, so you'll have a reason to wear it.
