On the hunt for jumpers to wear with skinnies

I pretty much live in black skinnies and boots from now until March-ish and I’m looking for a couple of new jumpers (or cardigans) to wear with them but for some reason I’m finding it difficult this year! I think because I have put on a little bit of weight and I’m a bit self conscious.

I prefer a slightly looser and longer jumper for skinny jeans to balance out my bottom half. Ideally I’m looking to spend under £80 and as much wool as possible (😬).

I love love love this Arket one as an example but it’s just way too expensive for me atm - https://www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/loungewear/product.roll-neck-cashmere-wool-jumper-beige.1195375003.html

Thanks in advance ☺️

I always love the idea of men’s knitwear but I think you have to be quite a specific shape to get away with it. Just doesn’t seem to look right on me at all!

The men’s jumpers I’ve tried don’t work on me. The shoulders are too broad and the body doesn’t accommodate boobs properly. And they usually have a cuff at the bottom so the jumper doesn’t hang straight down. It’s annoying because I like plain, simple knitwear in neutral colours which often feels like the reserve of the menswear section.

Another one at Next. https://www.next.co.uk/style/su294232/b35777#b35777

Not very woollen though :(

I do have pretty broad shoulders but I love the mens' cashmere polo and round neck jumpers from Uniqlo, which are in plain neutrals. No cuff at the bottom, nice long length (including sleeves) and I am very tall. Plenty of room for F-G boobs.

Interesting. I’ve always preferred clothes actually cut for women, even if that’s a “boyfriend” style shirt etc. It’s a slight bugbear of mine that “unisex” clothes are just in fact men’s clothes, because men would not generally be able or expected to wear things that go out at the chest/in at the waist/with narrower shoulders etc.

The colour selection is lovely but they've got that sweatshirt style cuff at the bottom Sad

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 18/10/2024 12:23

Oh bugger they've updated the style this season, mine are older and don't have the cuff.

Wow thanks so much everyone for so many suggestions! Agree the wide leg trouser trend has taken over for the last few years but actually skinnies seem to be coming back a bit?? I like wide legs for work but in the winter it’s not very practical in the cold and rain.

The shops here are awful but I was in town today so I’ll link some bits I saw irl.

https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0992208028.html - someone posted this and I love it online but in reality it is SO LONG and oversized. The blue one is very pretty though. & Other Stories also have one that looks exactly the same.

https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1246584001.html - too short for me but this is very nice and not too oversized.

https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1237850002.html - no wool but going to order this one I think. Plus maybe one of the H&M alpaca mix jumpers.

https://www.next.co.uk/style/su246522/n21353#n21353 - for £24 I thought this was good in next!

I also have some nice Whistles cashmere in my Vinted faves to go through later.

Oversized polo-neck jumper - Light beige marl - Ladies | H&M GB

Oversized jumper in a soft knit containing some wool. Rib-knit polo neck and a V-shaped opening at the back of the neck. Dropped shoulders and long, wide sleeves. Ribbing at the cuffs and hem and high slits in the sides.

River Island has some beautiful jumpers in at the moment!

VictorianBigot · 19/10/2024 00:03

I have a similar one to that I got instore at M&S last year, but lighter weight. It’s nice. But how annoying are the pictures! It’s impossible to see how it actually hangs or what kind of length it is.

Wwe175 · 19/10/2024 18:30

Have you looked at Seasalt? Not read the whole thread sorry.

GinnyW · 24/10/2024 11:55

Celtic and Co. I recommended them further up the thread and I am coming back with some extra feedback. One of my jumpers has a small hole in it which I think was caused by my dog’s nails. They do a repair service but this is such a small hole in an inconspicuous area that I wanted to repair it my self. I phoned them and they are sending out some yarn free of charge!

How lovely. I have a few Celtic and Co jumpers and love them.

Oh that's very interesting @GinnyW
I have a couple of their merino sweaters and a longer lambswool V neck, and they all have small holes (not sure if it's moths or a tear). It's such a shame as they weren't cheap so nice to see that they will help with this .
