On the hunt for jumpers to wear with skinnies

PippyPip · 15/10/2024 17:20

I pretty much live in black skinnies and boots from now until March-ish and I’m looking for a couple of new jumpers (or cardigans) to wear with them but for some reason I’m finding it difficult this year! I think because I have put on a little bit of weight and I’m a bit self conscious.

I prefer a slightly looser and longer jumper for skinny jeans to balance out my bottom half. Ideally I’m looking to spend under £80 and as much wool as possible (😬).

I love love love this Arket one as an example but it’s just way too expensive for me atm - https://www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/loungewear/product.roll-neck-cashmere-wool-jumper-beige.1195375003.html

Thanks in advance ☺️

I did buy the market one last year and I love it. Nice to see some new colours and I'll be getting the navy. Disappointed to see the burgundy sold out though.

*arket obviously 🤓

Another vote for H&M they've got lots of lovely neutral knits in

Agree - as soon as I saw the jumper you linked I thought of H&M

Astrabees · 17/10/2024 09:08

Have you thought about second hand cashmere? I have recently bought a huge Jaeger cashmere jumper, a black John Lewis one and an another black Pringle. They were all in new condition and I paid £10 on Vinted for the Jaeger one, £30 in Oxfam for the John Lewis and £30 on eBay for the last. There are always large size Autograph roll necks on eBay - many I suspect are unwanted presents.

Celtic and Co have a huge range of jumpers in natural fibres all made in the UK. Most around £100. They are such good quality. Huge range of colours and neutrals.

I also have this H & M one which is £27....

I like this. What's it made of? Does it look like it will go bobbly?

Rina66 · 17/10/2024 12:57

@widelegenes it's mainly man made, only 6% wool, but that suits me, I'm yet to find a jumper that doesn't bobble, in fact, some of my more expensive ones (£100 +) have been the worst bobblers of all and they make me itch! I'm better off buying cheaper and replacing them every year.

VictorianBigot · 17/10/2024 14:05

I got this https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/clothing/knitwear/grey-cashmere-knitted-jumper/p/05629123

and this https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/clothing/knitwear/cashmere-green-jumper/p/05629121 recently... 100% cashmere, bargain!

I'm more of an S but got one in M and one in L because I like oversized for wearing with skinny jeans. They come down to about mid-arse on me. I love them.

AlertCat · 17/10/2024 14:31

I found one of these in as-new condition on Vinted for about £15, I’ve worn it a bit and it doesn’t seem to be bobbling at all. I don’t think it’s available at Seasalt but worth looking on Depop, Vinted etc.

I've got a Seasalt 100% lambswool fairisle jumper but it's itchy as fuck. It's also bobbled really badly even though I've only worn it a handful of times because of the itchiness. I might stick it on Vinted.

AHFBridport · 17/10/2024 14:50

Yes to Other Stories - I was eyeing this one up just this morning https://www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/knitwear/sweaters/product.oversized-turtleneck-wool-jumper-black.1171421006.html .

I was expecting itchiness with this but have been pleasantly surprised. I usually avoid lambswool in favour of merino for that reason. Seasalt reviews also do mention bobbling in lots of their stuff- I do wonder whether it’s the luck of the balls of wool used in your particular item?

YourWinter · 17/10/2024 14:55

I like Woolovers lambswool jumpers and get them from eBay or Vinted.

Yes, I think it must be. I've given up on lambswool and buy only merino or (heavily discounted!) cashmere now. I have some old White Stuff lambwool mix jumpers that I thought were ok at the time but I now find them really uncomfortable.

I recommend Dilling for quality 100% wool and you can get 10% discount if you sign up. They have these jumpers: uk.dilling.com/product/womens-merino-wool-boxy-fit-crew-neck-pg-42100-0100-562 as well as some cardigans: uk.dilling.com/product/womens-merino-wool-short-cardigan-pg-42070-0100-662?queryID=2b782acd6aa0d03fd9878fcdb2105e6d

Agree, I have a few really nice jumpers from Celtic and Co. I also recommend The Croft House, how about something like this: www.thecrofthouse.com/products/womens-chunky-wool-cowl-neck-jumper-pebble-natural-undyed.

I think & other stories is going to be your best bet, OP.

Mango has these, which I like, but they are mostly acrylic:

Depending on your height, look for your normal size but in “tall” versions, or even try Long Tall Sally. I am 5ft 7, so had never considered doing until recently, but I have a long back in comparison to my height and it’s great to finally be able to get longer jumpers more easily, Although to add that wool
makes me itch/I can’t wear it and so I’m not sure about how many are wool.

Silviasilvertoes · 17/10/2024 19:12

Ooooh following.

Me too long back! Good suggestion, thanks.

I have this and think the shape would be ideal if you’re set on skinnies. The quality looks and feels great - they bring out similar most years so you might be able to pick one up on Vinted for less. I’d probably buy one great jumper you’ll keep for years rather than 3 from H&M that will be worn out by January.

You don't say how tall you are, but don't discount the smaller sizes in men's sweaters. M and S men's start at about 36 inch chest size, and they're likely to be longer in the body, if oversized is what you're after. A classic roll neck sweater has got to be the ultimate gender neutral garment, after all. 🤷‍♀️

One left of this in light grey, medium size.

I always love the idea of men’s knitwear but I think you have to be quite a specific shape to get away with it. Just doesn’t seem to look right on me at all!
