Where to buy reasonably-priced kid's winter coats?

I need to get a new thick, warm, showerproof winter coat for DD. Ideally a parka or something similar. It must have a hood.

She's 6, tall and slim. She doesn't like dark colours or anything too "grown up" (and to be honest, nor do I). She loves rainbows and multi-coloured things. She had a great one from Sainsbury's last year that was purple and iridescent but the replacement this year is almost white and I know it would look grubby within five minutes!

I really don't want to / can't afford to spend more than £40 – she'll only get one winter out of it, after all.

Any suggestions would be hugely welcomed! I feel like I've tried all the usual places. The best one I've found so far is this one from Next but it's not as colourful and fun as her previous coats! https://www.next.co.uk/style/su161451/q81857#q81857

Maybe look at George in Asda?

SnapdragonToadflax · 14/10/2024 19:12

Vinted! Favourite a few you think she'll like that look decent quality, and let her scroll through and choose.

Musicofthespiers · 14/10/2024 19:12

Fatface, though I'm unsure on pricing.

TeenagersAngst · 14/10/2024 19:14

Charity shop?

HelloCheekyCat · 14/10/2024 19:14

I get DD's from vinted, always select very good condition and look at the photos carefully.
Chances are they havent been worn much so I've always got a good coat

vegandspice · 14/10/2024 19:14

Am not an Asda fan normally but Granddaughter has a very warm ,showerproof coat for £22 .

Devilsmommy · 14/10/2024 19:15

Next do some lovely coats in your price range and the quality is always amazing

Himawarigirl · 14/10/2024 19:15

Vinted, I get all my kids stuff on there. Search for good quality brands that will have held their quality well, ideally one where you know what size she is, and you’ll get a bargain.

HarrietBond · 14/10/2024 19:15

Vinted all the way. I’m increasingly clothing my entire family that way. I got a great winter coat for my child last year for a quarter of its price new.

okayhescereal · 14/10/2024 19:15

Regatta have a pretty good sale on ATM. I got DS a waterproof, warm, longer coat this week for £16 down from about £55

Sprig1 · 14/10/2024 19:15

Mountain Warehouse or Sports Direct.

caringcarer · 14/10/2024 19:17

Asda always does them.

Greenerstreet · 14/10/2024 19:18

Vinted! Got mine some really nice Boden coats, one was £3 and good as new!

ladymalfoy45 · 14/10/2024 19:18

Mountain Warehouse
Asda
Tesco
Sainsbury's

Genuinelyenquiring · 14/10/2024 19:19

Another one for vinted. I never buy anything new for the kids now!

InTheRainOnATrain · 14/10/2024 19:20

Zara or Uniqlo both have really nice options

booklover164 · 14/10/2024 19:21

You can often get BNWT stuff on Vinted for less than a tenner. Definitely worth a look!

NicoleSkidman · 14/10/2024 19:26

Vinted. Massive waste of money to buy kids this young brand new winter coats. They get worn for a few months and are often too small by the next winter. I bought a near new Polarn coat on eBay for my 9 year old last week.

CaptainBenson · 14/10/2024 19:33

I normally buy from Next in the sales.

Currently ds has a graffiti sort of pattern colourful one. I always look in the boys and the girls sections in any shop I look at too and we often end up buying clothes from the opposite section.

We like bright colours and like Next, Little Bird, Boden (but second hand for us, we can't afford new Boden), sometimes Asda George have nice bright bits and other items it's a sea of beige and grey. TK Maxx can be worth a look too, and mountain warehouse.

belzs · 14/10/2024 19:34

NEXT do amazing thick coats. Great quality for not a lot 🙌

okayhescereal · 14/10/2024 19:36

@Genuinelyenquiring @NicoleSkidman @booklover164 are you ever struggling to find the right sizes? I'm looking at age 4-5, so put age 5 (IE up to 110) in the search. Everything comes up as age 5-6, so go back and look at the 104 stuff and it's all 3-4. Drives me a bit batty after a while. Same thing happens when looking at age 6-7 for DS!
