Where to buy reasonably-priced kid's winter coats?

I need to get a new thick, warm, showerproof winter coat for DD. Ideally a parka or something similar. It must have a hood.

She's 6, tall and slim. She doesn't like dark colours or anything too "grown up" (and to be honest, nor do I). She loves rainbows and multi-coloured things. She had a great one from Sainsbury's last year that was purple and iridescent but the replacement this year is almost white and I know it would look grubby within five minutes!

I really don't want to / can't afford to spend more than £40 – she'll only get one winter out of it, after all.

Any suggestions would be hugely welcomed! I feel like I've tried all the usual places. The best one I've found so far is this one from Next but it's not as colourful and fun as her previous coats! https://www.next.co.uk/style/su161451/q81857#q81857

Another vote for Vinted. My toddlers wardrobe has been second hand since birth. Just be savvy using the filters, poring over photos and reading reviews. I'm addicted to getting bargains on there now. Then I resell it too, so much better for the environment.

M&S. DS has a stormwear coat and it's lasted him 2 years because he's short and still in great condition.

EBay- get all the kids' winter coats from there, usually barely worn

I just got two from Next that would fit your criteria and they were both under £30. They are lovely

SophiaSW1 · 14/10/2024 20:41

Mountain warehouse was last year.

M&S do lovely kids coats, I’ve brought my DD a 3 in 1 style for years. It washes well, is waterproof and can be used as a winter coat and spring coat (due to the 3 in 1 style function).

@Genuinelyenquiring @NicoleSkidman @booklover164 are you ever struggling to find the right sizes? I'm looking at age 4-5, so put age 5 (IE up to 110) in the search. Everything comes up as age 5-6, so go back and look at the 104 stuff and it's all 3-4. Drives me a bit batty after a while. Same thing happens when looking at age 6-7 for DS!

Yes, the sizing on Vinted is really annoying. Even more annoying for womens clothes which bunches medium with size 10 and small with size 8. On no planet is size 10 medium.

Vinted for a boden.
I've had a very good Asda one before though in a dark colour.
Next do lovely ones.

Another vinted suggestion. As kids grow out of their coats pretty quickly they're not very worn, especially the puffer type ones.

So many responses, thank you so much!

Mountain Warehouse is winning so far, quite a few reasonably priced options in their sale. I've also downloaded Vinted though so will keep an eye out!
