Despite knowing every single time I box dye my hair it goes wrong, I apparently forgot this and box dyed my hair and shocker it's gone wrong.

What should be a light ashy brown has turned almost black with a reddish hue.

Lesson learnt and I will go to the hairdressers, am using blue shampoo to dull it and have also used a box dye stripping kit thingie but it only helped a bit - is there anything I can do to lighten it in the meantime please???

Could you post a photo?

savemejebus · 08/10/2024 15:45

So my hair appointment isn't until mid Nov - earliest they can get me in

I've posted a pic and it doesn't really show how bad it is. Especially as I'm SO pale and am used to brown/dark blonde balayage

Looks lovely to me.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/10/2024 15:47

There's a nice colour!

savemejebus · 08/10/2024 15:47

@leli oh Thankyou so much, I've taken a photo in every room of the house to show how bad it is and it doesn't! It's just so red on top and black at the ends

I see no black. It looks a lot lighter than I expected and it's a lovely colour.

Durdledore · 08/10/2024 16:25

I can see the redness in your fringe and the black on the ends, and I know what you mean, but your hair is beautiful and so is what I can see of your face. So I say style it out until your next appointment - if anyone can carry this off, you can!

CryptoFascist · 08/10/2024 16:26

Looks lovely and I like your haircut also.

savemejebus · 08/10/2024 16:34

Oh you lot 🥰 Thankyou! I know it's only hair but I was in tears earlier and it took a lot to post so Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for the kind comments.

Maybe I'll just style it out until my hair appointment 😊

It's a lovely colour! I like it

Intensiv14 · 08/10/2024 16:59

It looks nice to me!

PandoraSox · 08/10/2024 16:59

Just adding to the positive voices. It looks lovely.

ChungKing · 08/10/2024 17:00

I think it looks perfectly nice and not remotely black.

Ohhhthedrama · 08/10/2024 17:03

Oh it looks good. What did you use?

Killerqueenie · 08/10/2024 17:22

I think it looks lovely! But if you're jot happy, then a clarifying shampoo should help to get some of the colour out quicker

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 08/10/2024 17:28

I've seen head and shoulders recommended here before for reducing darkness.

But I wouldn't mess about too much as the condition looks good.

I find mine fades a little after a couple of washes anyway so I'd give it a few washes before you do anything. Or just get a trim if it's the ends that are darker.

Sometimes you just need to get used to it. I can't keep mine as dark as it was naturally. I swim and it always turns reddish. Yet when I dye it closer to the colour it should be I spend the first couple of days thinking I look like a ghost!

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 08/10/2024 17:30

I'd also be delighted if it looked as good as yours. There's really nothing to worry about

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 08/10/2024 17:34

Another saying leave it, it looks in amazing condition, so shiny and you wouldn't want to jeopardise that with more stripping etc.

I was going to say, I like this colour. Your hair is lovely and shiny 🙂

NewGirlinClass · 08/10/2024 17:43

I would willingly swap my mane for yours OP.

savemejebus · 08/10/2024 17:55

Honestly Thankyou all for such kind comments. I think it's just a flattering picture (for a change! Ha) but you've made a VERY self conscious woman VERY happy tonight.

I think I'll embrace the dark until my hair appointment and carry on using the blue shampoo to rid the red.

Ps I cut it myself! I really need to stop thinking I can do for free what I used to pay £130 for GrinGrin I won't even get started on the tanning drops and eyebrow dye I've done......Blush

Looks lovely !

Gall10 · 08/10/2024 18:01

Looks great! I’d be more than happy with that result…especially in autumn.
anyone else having a dodgy box dye…head & shoulders, vosene or a bicarbonate of soda paste is supposedly used to strip colour.

savemejebus · 08/10/2024 18:04

@Gall10 I have Vosene! Off to the shower, Thankyou!
