Does anyone wear foundation any more

I wear Maybelline coverage and have a couple of combination all in one skin brighter things which I rarely use.

Generally i moisturise
Put eye cream on
Concealer
Powder
Mascara sometimes top lashes black
Eyeliner bottom under lashes
Sometimes lipstick natural colour

Occasionally more makeup but not always as keen on look now.
I'm middle aged
When younger I rarely went out without but now I don't think it always looks better.

A few times I have been tempted to throw makeup away but don't.

What is everyone else doing in these fifties or any age for that matter

brown liner is the classic go-to for over 45s as black becomes too harsh

it’s not a choice of brown or black though. I use a dark plum or a steel colour.

Very dated, good grief , have a word with yourself

things do get dated and there’s nothing wrong with saying it. Avocado bathroom suites anyone? Poodle perm hair? It’s not about being obsessed with TikTok fashion.

Edited

Great, I look like I have conjunctivitis if I wear plum. I do occasionally wear grey.

rainfallpurevividcat · 04/10/2024 14:38

Depends on your colouring. I still wear black sometimes in the evening but have invested in different eyeliner colours largely due to how brilliant the Victoria Beckham eyeliners are. I have like a metallic olive green and a dark bronze which are just lush.

rainfallpurevividcat · 04/10/2024 14:45

I have brown as it's the right colour for my eyebrows and colouring. Why on earth should you have to keep up with what is the fashionable make up look? I think a lot of make-up styles recently have been pretty disgusting and unflattering and just make pretty young women look a lot older.

I'm 49 and am happy to look 49 and have my own style with make-up and clothes. I'm not trying to look like a 25 year old fashionista.

Hi from the friends I have all similar ages to you this amount of make up would be unusual. I used to love make up in my twenties and thirties but I barely wear any anymore. Maybe a bit of mascara and blusher and a low key lip. I have foundation and tinted moisturiser- just virtually never wear it. You may look amazing though and feel great and I could probably do with upping my game ! 😬

Im a similar age and wear exactly the same

Ilovemyshed · 04/10/2024 14:59

Yes but have switched to a lighter, buildable coverage and put it on with a brush. I use a setting spray not powder.

Bestfootfwd · 04/10/2024 15:04

I wear foundation every day. I used Clinique for about 20 years but now I wear Charlotte Tibury, but I only apply it very lightly. I also wear mascara every day and a barely there lipstick. Can’t be seen without it, sadly.

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 15:10

Avocado bathroom suites are very much back in fashion!

raspberryripplecheesecake · 04/10/2024 15:21

I'm probably getting it all wrong as I've always worn the same make up and application since my 20s but I definitely feel more confident with make up. For work I wear below but at home I use the FIT block foundation

Nivea Moisturiser
Any Sunscreen
Foundation - Estee Lauder double wear
NYX liquid eyeliner
Black mascara (short wispy lashes, look terrible without)
Eye shadow - neutral colours
Eyeliner black smudged so not too harsh
Lipstick (unsure which make it is but it is one that stays all day)
Benefit blush applied with a foundation brush so it's soft and not too obvious

My bathroom mirror is very kind and my eyesight is deteriorating so I think I look okay-ish, (probably don't to those with 20/20 vision)

Dontcallmescarface · 04/10/2024 15:55

Every day. Sometimes I fully make-up (not very often though), but foundation is a must. It hides the scars.

ArcticBells · 04/10/2024 16:37

Yes , every day to even out my skin tone. I'd love not to have to wear any makeup at all.

Arraminta · 04/10/2024 17:37

I'm 54 with a clear complexion, but fair skinned and light eyes so need subtle definition or my face just disappears.

So Erborian CC cream and concealer in Clair applied with a damp beauty blender. Bobbi Brown creme blush in Powder Pink. Max Factor Masterpiece mascara in Brown/Black. Urban Decay 24hr Glide Pencil Liner in Mushroom smudged into my top & bottom lashes. Bobbi Brown Tinted Lip Balm in Bare Lip.

A really good trick for subtle but effective eye definition is to also tightline along your upper lashes too. The best is Laura Mercier's Tightline Cake Liner in Mahogany Brown.

Disturbia81 · 04/10/2024 18:05

@Mainoo72 No not in any way you're thinking, it's just the literal sensory feeling I like, of having something on my face. I know that's unusual as most hate the feeling! Plus I have really red skin so I like being more even toned.
Certainly not using it for mens benefit

GameOfJones · 04/10/2024 18:08

Late 30s and my routine is:

Moisturiser (No7 Day Fluid)

Primer (YSL)

Concealer (Nars) dabbed in with a beauty blender

Powder (Laura Geller)

Mascara (Loreal Paradise)

Blusher (Laura Geller)

Lip balm (No7 hydraluminous)

SPF (Garnier over makeup spray)

If going out out I'll add eyeshadow (ELF stick) and eyeliner (L'Oréal perfect slim)

shivbo2014 · 04/10/2024 18:34

I'm 41 and no longer use foundation i use this cheapish BB cream from rimmel. So nice on my skin.

Does anyone wear foundation any more
AuntyPants · 04/10/2024 18:53

Another Nivea tinted moisturiser, light mascara and lip balm girl (51) and a touch of blusher too, to stop me looking "sallow" (thanks Grandma 🤨).

RampantIvy · 04/10/2024 23:01

The cameras on our work laptops aren't good enough for anyone to tell if someone is wearing make up or not, so I don't bother. I do when I go to the office - just Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, blusher and lipstick.

I have problems with my eyes so I don't wear eye make up. However, I hve dark eyes, eyelashes and brows, so don't really need any.

Shinydress · 04/10/2024 23:04

Sheesh @RampantIvy how old are those laptops?

lto2019 · 05/10/2024 00:11

I love skin care and make up and wear about 900 different types of lotions and oils. Foundation use has changed - I now go for more 'dewy' cream looks. In summer I wear a BB cream and the winter a fuller coverage as it just seems to need it more - but isn't a heavy foundation.

Miniopolis · 05/10/2024 04:53

Shinydress · 04/10/2024 10:00

bit of foundation, tinted lip balm and a swipe of brown eye liner smudged under my lower lashes. Every day.

Don’t you get bored?! Don’t you think - let’s try something different!

brown eyeliner is very dated too

brown eyeliner is very dated too

I don’t think so?

ForGreyKoala · 05/10/2024 05:06

Mid sixties. I moisturise, use lip gloss, and that's it. I haven't worn foundation, or anything else, on a regular basis since my late teens, other than maybe a hint of lipstick now and again. I wore the barest amount of make-up on my wedding day.

Rhinohides · 05/10/2024 05:33

Mid 50s, realised miracle effect of full foundation young and still love the stuff.
use it a lot, though noticed the cosmetic counter tries to get me to buy lighter coverage options.
I also think the lips or eye rule is for wimps.
Think make up is glamorous, shows you made an effort and conveys respect to the people you are with.
That being said as I have got older eyeliner is harder to apply, despite decades of practice

Savingthehedgehogs · 05/10/2024 05:48

I use a little Charlotte tilbury to even out my skin tone - I have good skin, it makes an incredible difference and it is barely noticeable.
I add mascara, tinted lip balm and a touch of eyeshadow. Ensure my eyebrows are tidy and I am ready to go with some blush. It takes just a few minutes but makes an enormous difference.

It offers a polished, natural and elegant look. I take care of my skin and hair. I like the barely there look now I am getting older.

I also use VB eyeliners - they're fantastic and so easy to put on. Her chocolate brown one is my favourite (dated or not).

Twinkletwinklelil · 05/10/2024 05:52

30s

even in my 20s I wouldn’t wear it unless I have a special occasion (wedding, party)

always reach for the tinted suncream instead!
