Does anyone wear foundation any more

I wear Maybelline coverage and have a couple of combination all in one skin brighter things which I rarely use.

Generally i moisturise
Put eye cream on
Concealer
Powder
Mascara sometimes top lashes black
Eyeliner bottom under lashes
Sometimes lipstick natural colour

Occasionally more makeup but not always as keen on look now.
I'm middle aged
When younger I rarely went out without but now I don't think it always looks better.

A few times I have been tempted to throw makeup away but don't.

What is everyone else doing in these fifties or any age for that matter

I wear it every day, don't feel covered otherwise

bitsalty · 04/10/2024 11:22

I wear a very light dewy foundation mixed with moisturizer or a brightening cream. Then I use concealer for problem areas.

No powder either, just setting spray. I find heavy foundation and powder so drying and a matt finish looks quite dated now.

frecklejuice · 04/10/2024 11:22

@MrSeptember I use Vitamin C (Medik8) and have been for about 6 months but it doesn't seem to have made much difference, maybe I need to try a different one.

I'm naturally pale but look even worse lately!

Thanks for the advice I'll give it a go.

Early 40s. Stopped wearing full foundation a couple of years ago - it sticks in the creases and makes me look much older.
If I'm just having a quiet day I only wear concealer and blush now, maybe a bit of tinted lip balm. If I've got a professional meeting I wear a tinted moisturiser, concealer and blush with a bit of mascara

familyissues12345 · 04/10/2024 11:35

Mid forties - never owned a bottle of foundation, closest I've ever come to is a light tinted moisturiser Grin

I am lucky in that I've always had quite good skin no idea why, I'm terrible at drinking water, so I've never felt the need to "cover up" etc. If I want a bit of colour, I might use a tiny bit of bronzer.

Honestly, I'm really scared of make up, never really know how to work out my colours - it's taken me to 44 to realise the lippy colour that I'd avoid (purpley pink) is absolutely the right one for me. I just never know where to start!

ItGhoul · 04/10/2024 11:39

'Foundation' includes such a vast range of products these days that I think different people have different ideas of what foundation is. I wear a light coverage base most days to even things out a bit.

My day time make-up for work or popping out for the day would be some form of sheer base, concealer, eyeshadow stick or smudgy eyeliner, mascara, brow pencil and a cheek tint. Takes me about five minutes. For a more eveningish look I'd spend a lot more time and probably use more products.

I really like makeup though, and like creating different looks, including some pretty dramatic, borderline theatrical ones, for fun. I have a go-to look for day to day, but my 'occasion' makeup varies a lot depending on my mood.

That’s interesting. Why you want to feel “covered?”

I don't think vitamin c gives you colour, but it does reduce dullness i found. I started with the Murad one and liked that a lot. I actually use the Ordinary ones now but a lot of people dont' like them as they're very high dose and it's generally agreed it's not necessary. I just like the way they feel and my skin seems to respond well.

I also found that a few years of using the Clarins Double Serum seemed to boost my other serums. My skin is a LOT more glowly and less dull than it was 3 years ago now.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/10/2024 11:50

What I’ve been wearing lately is Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation which seems to suit my 53 year old skin. I have been known to go out without it though or with just concealer.

TiredCatLady · 04/10/2024 11:51

I still do but find I only get on with very limited ones - I find a lot of them to be cement like or excessively orange. My only conclusion is that they’re made to be trowelled on with a load of that contouring stuff and only seen through a filter.

Roche posay moisturiser, mac strobe and a Lancome one work. RP and the a Mac one are my everyday.

rainfallpurevividcat · 04/10/2024 11:55

Not very often as I can't be bothered and I always feel like my skin is clogged up wearing it.

I wear powder and concealer and use bronzer, highlighter and blush, so it's not like there is nothing on my skin when I wear makeup, but still need those even when wearing foundation.

Spreadthehappiness · 04/10/2024 12:03

I’m 40 and I havnt work foundation in a few years. The odd time I have ( for a wedding for example ), I find it settles in my fine lines and doesn’t look great . I stick to tinted moisturiser’s usually . I also really like MAC’s face a body . It’s sheer and doesn’t look like I’m wearing anything .

I’m often told that I have nice skin but I really don’t . I have breakouts, lots of redness and large pores. I don’t know if it’s the lack of foundation that gives me the fresh illusion of nice skin or what ?!

Shinydress · 04/10/2024 10:00

bit of foundation, tinted lip balm and a swipe of brown eye liner smudged under my lower lashes. Every day.

Don’t you get bored?! Don’t you think - let’s try something different!

brown eyeliner is very dated too

Very dated, good grief , have a word with yourself 🙄

gano · 04/10/2024 12:11

I wear tinted moisturiser and have done for nearly 20 years. I've never been keen on the look of foundation.

Shinydress · 04/10/2024 12:12

brown liner is the classic go-to for over 45s as black becomes too harsh

it’s not a choice of brown or black though. I use a dark plum or a steel colour.

Very dated, good grief , have a word with yourself

things do get dated and there’s nothing wrong with saying it. Avocado bathroom suites anyone? Poodle perm hair? It’s not about being obsessed with TikTok fashion.

LoobyDoop2 · 04/10/2024 12:15

Late 40s. I either use just BB or BB and foundation mixed together.

IDontHateRainbows · 04/10/2024 12:18

No. I invest in a vitamin c serum for naturally glory skin. Then use a primer and powder, when I can be arsed.

tediber · 04/10/2024 12:29

I think plenty of people do yes. I don't wear it everyday. Usually if I'm going to the office one day and if I'm out at the wkend I mostly wear it.

My everyday is a bit of concealer, blush, eyebrow pencil and mascara. Takes a few mins.

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 12:31

I'm 58 and I have a good skincare routine and moisturiser. Then I use a bit of eborian primer and a few dots of a no 7 foundation and buff it all with a brush. I also use a nars concealer around eyes sometimes. I don't have many wrinkles because I have botox 😁

sweetgingercat · 04/10/2024 12:45

Just a bit of cc cream to blend in my red nose, a bit of cream blusher from Mac and lipstick. I need the colour now that my hair is grey!

RaspberryBeretxx · 04/10/2024 13:01

Mid 40s but with oily/pore prone skin that needs to be matte in places. More recently, I've been either wearing this concealer with this powder foundation (Laura Geller) - just one covering as I found it can look a bit orange if I put too much on but one gentle sweep is perfect. Or a really small amount of this tinted serum (L'oreal) with a tiny bit of powder just on my nose and chin and part of forehead. I've found since turning 40 it's all about lots of water based moisturisers AND the tiniest amount of concealers/foundations/powders etc.

Thegreenhandbag · 04/10/2024 13:11

Watching with interest. I bought a Bobby brown foundation for older skin ( 50s) but now really don’t like it. Not sure what to try though

Drivingoverlemons · 04/10/2024 13:27

I wear tinted moisturiser but only because I haven’t got round to getting any foundation. My DM who is 76 still wears foundation and various other make up and looks great but she does but expensive foundation. Maybe that helps with how it looks.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/10/2024 07:23

I wear Elf Liquid Glow on cheeks forehead and chin and then use a stick foundation kind of as a concealer here and there. I need something better for dark circles under my eyes though and haven't found anything that really works.

What's the Elf stuff like - is it quite light coverage?

Mid 40s here, and much as I love to wear it, foundation just doesn't seem agree with my skin anymore; no matter which I try I always seem to have a nasty reaction. I've been using Eborian CC cream recently, which looks lovely and doesn't make my skin tantrum!

How did you settle on a shade for the CC cream? Really want to try it but can't decide on a shade!
