Does anyone wear foundation any more

I wear Maybelline coverage and have a couple of combination all in one skin brighter things which I rarely use.

Generally i moisturise
Put eye cream on
Concealer
Powder
Mascara sometimes top lashes black
Eyeliner bottom under lashes
Sometimes lipstick natural colour

Occasionally more makeup but not always as keen on look now.
I'm middle aged
When younger I rarely went out without but now I don't think it always looks better.

A few times I have been tempted to throw makeup away but don't.

What is everyone else doing in these fifties or any age for that matter

Mid 50s. When going in to the office I wear foundation (no 7 Hydraluminous) which looks great at the beginning of the day and evens out my skin but in the afternoon my face seems to have sucked all the moisture out and it can look patchy.
I wear a lot less makeup these days but would like to find something to make my skin look even and healthy without the patchiness.

Same here. None of my younger (40ish) colleagues wear makeup and I often wonder if I (61) look like some caked-on makeup old bat in work meetings.

. But my skin is too red these days to go without anything.

Moisturiser, eye cream, brown eyeliner on top eyelid and brown mascara.

I also haven't worn foundation for years, I'm mid 40s

eurochick · 04/10/2024 08:58

I rarely used to wear it but now often wear some light foundation for work as it looks much better on video calls. If I have to stare at myself for hours I don't want to be seeing every imperfection magnified.

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/10/2024 08:59

I moisturise and then use a pea-sized blob of L’Oréal liquid foundation in the same way as a moisturiser, just blended in on top with my fingers. I much prefer it to fully applied foundation, it isn’t cakey and just gives my skin a more even tone. Kohl pencil around my eyes and a touch of mascara. In the summer I sometimes add a touch of matte powder. My makeup routine takes about two minutes tops.

My skin is mostly good but has always had a tendency to be a bit blotchy. Late 40s and I wear A light application of foundation but learnt long ago that foundation is the make up item to spend money on so that the coverage and colour are right. I have been using the Trinny one for about a year now and love it and it's very buildable so most days it's a very light layer just to even my complexion. Then a bit of blush, mascara and pencil on my brows and a neutral lipstick.

I do more if I am out for a night or in town for meetings etc

I've recently rediscovered Bare Minerals and think it looks much better on my face than foundation, now I'm an old git.

Netcam · 04/10/2024 09:09

I'm 54, I never wear make up, or almost never, it's not something I buy. When I got married 2 years ago I bought some lipstick and wore that, but not worn any since. I just wash my face with some gentle face wash and put some argan oil on. I feel happy like this and my skin looks fine to me.

Lobelia123 · 04/10/2024 09:09

As ive gotten older, my focus has changed from make up to skincare. When I was younger I bought loads of products to cover up dull skin. It literally was a cover for the poor base of my actual skin beneath. As I got more interested in my actual skin I realised that I couldnt create with foundation, what didnt exist on my face. Now I have a simple but good skin routine and my skin is heaps better than when I had youth on my side! I still love make up, but I need less as my real skin is so much better. Also fashions change, and the matte heavy coverage look that used to be my go to is so dated now - now its all about glowy natural looking skin and enhancing what you have, not painting on a 'look'.

Pixilicious1 · 04/10/2024 09:10

I’m 52 and wear Laura geller baked and brighten powder foundation, contour, blush, highlighter, eyebrow pencil and coloured pomade, eyeshadow, mascara and bright lipstick every day. I look better with makeup on and don’t think I look over done at all

idrinkandknowthings · 04/10/2024 09:10

41 - I have never used foundation. I have very good skin and I just don't like the look foundation gives. I hate the feel of it on my face! I use a mattifying primer and then benefit hoola put on with a big brush!

Ponks · 04/10/2024 09:12

@BettyBardMacDonald I remember when I was younger seeing older women with lots of heavy makeup which looked overdone, and thought it looked aging, so I'm consciously using less. But without some makeup my face looks like a splodgy potato and my eyes disappear.

Speaka · 04/10/2024 09:14

Mid 40s here, and much as I love to wear it, foundation just doesn't seem agree with my skin anymore; no matter which I try I always seem to have a nasty reaction. I've been using Eborian CC cream recently, which looks lovely and doesn't make my skin tantrum!

Purplepeopleeaterz · 04/10/2024 09:17

SunsetSkylane · 04/10/2024 08:58

Always! My skin looks shit without it. Plus I prefer the look of 'yes I'm wearing make up' to the natural look.

Same, 52 yrs & I honestly look so haggard without it I am even asked if I'm feeling ok. It takes 10 minutes to do and makes me feel good :)

Ohreally01 · 04/10/2024 09:18

I’ve never worn foundation except for a very special occasion like a wedding. However in the last year my skin has become quite red and blotchy so some days I do cover my cheeks with a light foundation.

MoodEnhancer · 04/10/2024 09:18

I’m mid forties. Foundation just doesn’t look the same on older skin, I have found. Made me look a bit ashy by the end of the day.
I have switched to a tinted moisturiser (Chantacaille) as the light coverage looks better.

I very rarely use foundation at all, but for a bigger night out if my skin isn’t looking great, I changed from my previous trusted foundation brands (Nars, Mac and Laura Mercier) to Kevyn Aucoin, because it is much lighter and more moisturising but still provides decent coverage.

Mrscharlieeeee · 04/10/2024 09:19

I'm 41 and I wear foundation daily, unless I know I'm not leaving the house. I use the Clarins skin illusionist now but was an Estée Lauder double wear user for probably 20 years prior. My every day makeup routine after my skincare is:

Primer
Foundation
Cream contour
Concealer
Bronzer
Cream blush
Powder
Eyebrow gel
Bronzer on the eyelids
Setting spray

I don't wear mascara unless I'm wearing my contacts which I probably only wear once a week.

AutumnMoss · 04/10/2024 09:21

I use a Dior foundation with brush just across my nose and either side as have broken veins and recently I started putting a tad on the skin under my eyebrows as now have sun spots there 😱 and the difference is huge to my finished look, kind of lifts my eyes.

I have always loved eyeliner that’s a bit ‘sparkly’ for want of a better word, in gorgeous colours, bronze, olive green, grey and lilac - a neutral shade of eyeshadow - add mascara and I’m done - I’m early 60s

evtheria · 04/10/2024 09:21

Late 30s: Generally no, but if going 'out out' I will as I'm rubbish with concealers. I use a dewy or glowy foundation, like Armani, and very lightly to even out my skin tone.

Houseplanter · 04/10/2024 09:22

Almost every day I wear

ELDW or futurist skin tint
Concealer
Brows
Liner
Mascara
Lipstick as blush
Lipstick

But only lightly so I don't look too made up

moggiek · 04/10/2024 09:31

RampantIvy · 04/10/2024 07:22

Mid 60s here. I wear tinted moisturiser. I ditched the foundation years ago. At my age less is more.

Ditto

the80sweregreat · 04/10/2024 09:33

I do, but only a very light coverage one
My ' forever ' one has run out , lasted a long time.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 04/10/2024 09:34

Mid 40s here. I still wear full foundation due to some hyperpigmentation and because I like the way it evens out my complexion.

GingerPirate · 04/10/2024 09:38

45 yo with spots and "youthful looks".
Just conceal spots, lipstick and a dab of mascara.
Oh, and every day a choice of eyebrows to pencil in (very lightly) because mine are non existent due to the natural colour I am.😁

muggletops · 04/10/2024 09:38

I'm 51. I don't wear foundation at all now and have done all through from teenage to 40's. During covid that I found a lighter tinted moisturiser and powder/bronzer gave me a nicer natural look - especially on zoom calls. I have Boots beauty gummies and monthly clinical facials. Also get my eyebrows threaded and tinted. Being blonde my lashes are invisible without a touch of mascara. I also apply UK lash before bed as my routine which is amazing stuff. so a more natural look definitely for me.

quoque · 04/10/2024 09:41

Mid forties. I had stopped for the reasons mentioned above, but then a while ago I started putting on plenty of moisturiser again right before the foundation, then one pump of foundation (two on a night out), bit of under-eye concealer and NO POWDER ANYWHERE. Cream blush/highlighter. Maybe primer if I think of it.

I wear Beauty Pie Every Day Great Skin foundation.

It looks really good. The big change has been prioritising moisture above all else, and nothing powder at all, except for eye shadow. The powder was like a beacon on all my fine lines. On my eyes, eyeshadow, nothing under my eyes at all, fill in brows, waterproof mascara.

If I do the one pump daily thing, DH doesn't think I'm wearing makeup, he can tell with two.
