Does anyone wear foundation any more

I wear Maybelline coverage and have a couple of combination all in one skin brighter things which I rarely use.

Generally i moisturise
Put eye cream on
Concealer
Powder
Mascara sometimes top lashes black
Eyeliner bottom under lashes
Sometimes lipstick natural colour

Occasionally more makeup but not always as keen on look now.
I'm middle aged
When younger I rarely went out without but now I don't think it always looks better.

A few times I have been tempted to throw makeup away but don't.

What is everyone else doing in these fifties or any age for that matter

  1. Bit of foundation, tinted lip balm and a swipe of brown eye liner smudged under my lower lashes. Every day.
PermanentTemporary · 04/10/2024 09:50

55 and I haven't worn any foundation for a long time, it never looked good on me imo. I went to a party about 10 years ago and looked at all my friends and me too, all still wearing our 'going out' makeup from 29 years ago which we probably were barely looking in the mirror to put on, and stopped wearing any after that. I still like mascara but only if I'm certain not to rub my eyes which is basically never.

turkeyboots · 04/10/2024 09:51

I wear a BB cream with so much coverage, it's basically a foundation. My skin is good, but I'm very pale and prone to being blotchy with temperature change. Foundation keeps me all one colour.
And I don't wear anything else most days, lipbalm and lipstick occasionally.

Startingagainandagain · 04/10/2024 09:53

I am 53 and never wear foundation anymore.

When I was younger I only wore it occasionally for big nights out. I have never been a fan...

I think too much make up actually makes you look older so I keep my make-up very light or don't wear any.

cantthinkofausernametoadd · 04/10/2024 09:54

I do- a very light one mixed with moisturiser. I also use concealer, eye liner, mascara, eyebrow pencil, blusher and lipstick. I'd look dead without any of these!

Shinydress · 04/10/2024 09:56

Yes, I love how make up makes me look and feel, always have. I still experiment with bold colour (eyeshadow and lips) and love different looks. I wear foundation whenever I go out usually.

i use Georgia Armani or Nars. Good quality foundation would never cake or go patchy. Just smooths all the redness away for me! Also I use Stila One Step Correct primer which is AMAZING at….well everything. And then often I’ll also use MAC Mineralise powder which brings a tiny bit of sparkle!

As I've said, I still wear foundation but I do agree with a lot of posters here that skincare is the more important thing - both if you do want to wear foundation (for a smoother, moisterised base to apply it to) and if you don't (so your skin is relatively smooth and blemish free).

As I've got older, that's taken a bit more thought. When I was younger I washed my face, and moisterised with a moisteriser for dry skin, with an SPF, and that was it - occassional exfoliate. But as I've got older and even dryer, I've added serums for moisterising and to brighten and in the last year or so, started introducing retinol. And I tend to exfoliate a bit more often and do it in different ways too - eg old fashioned exfoliating face wash, vitamin c with a bit of an exfoliant in int, acid exfoliant, facial peel - used at different times for different purposes.

Mid 40’s & never wear foundation anymore. It ages me. I use a tinted moisturiser which gives a subtle glow. I prefer the more natural look.

caringcarer · 04/10/2024 10:25

I don't generally wear make up it tonight I'm going to a posh dinner and I could not find my make up bag. I've popped into a supermarket and bought a concealer stick, pressed powder, a lipstick, a black khol pencil and mascara. I have a lunch to attend in October but after that I probably won't wear make again until Xmas.

PontiacFirebird · 04/10/2024 10:35

Isn’t tinted moisturise just moisturiser and foundation mixed? I always find getting the right colour in tinted moisturiser difficult so I use a L’Oréal foundation with the right colour and mix a bit of moisturiser in with it- then slap it all over my mush!
Dust a bit of powder on my nose and then mascara and maybe a lip stain. I love doing red lips, or even deep plum, in the Autumn.
I’ve definitely gone way lighter on the eyes though, and rarely touch eyeliner or shadow.

MaybeItsBecauseImALodoner · 04/10/2024 10:36

Mid forties and my everyday makeup is..
Fenty skin tint
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood flawless filter
Mac concealer
Benefit peach blush
Rimell Mascara and liquid eyeliner
Dior tinted lip gloss.
I add bronzer, eyeshadow and lipstick for a night out.

evtheria · 04/10/2024 10:38

@PontiacFirebird I think it can go wrong a bit, something to do with being oil based or water based...? I do slather on the moisturiser though, to dilute my foundation, never check what either are made of!

I wear Elf Liquid Glow on cheeks forehead and chin and then use a stick foundation kind of as a concealer here and there. I need something better for dark circles under my eyes though and haven't found anything that really works.

This is good for under the eyes.

doneandone · 04/10/2024 10:42

Yep, won't leave the house without it.
I have hyperpigmentation on my forehead and very dark circles under my eyes, so wouldn't feel confident without it. I have recently switched from full coverage though as every wrinkle and line looked magnified!

Maybe she likes brown eyeliner, it goes with her eye colour and complexion, maybe she doesn't care that it's "dated", personally I wear what I like and what suits me not what's cool on Instagram or whatever.

Houseplanter · 04/10/2024 11:00

What's wrong with brown eyeliner?! I like brown eyeliner ... much less harsh than black.

TeenLifeMum · 04/10/2024 11:02

I look dreadful without foundation but use a fairly light/natural looking one. Always wear mascara and for nights out I’ll add eye liner and lipstick but my eye makeup is much more subtle than 10 years ago. I’m 42. I don’t wear foundation for work when I’m working from home as the teams soft focus filter is a cheaper option 😂

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 04/10/2024 11:04

I'm 60 and wear far less makeup up than I used to, especially foundation. I wear mascara most days and lipstick every day, sometimes the only make up is lipstick. Going out I put some eyeshadow and eye pencil on, which I used to wear every day.
I've also stopped wearing under eye concealer as I was sick of it settling into the creases, I tried so many types, including several recommended on here, every one did the same.
For foundation I have discovered Chanel makes the lightest possible product, it's extremely sheer but somehow makes your skin look better, it's Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint and I really like it.

Nope, not dated at all. brown liner is the classic go-to for over 45s as black becomes too harsh. I still wear black but smudged for a night out but I’m expecting to transition at some point.

As ive gotten older, my focus has changed from make up to skincare. When I was younger I bought loads of products to cover up dull skin. It literally was a cover for the poor base of my actual skin beneath. As I got more interested in my actual skin I realised that I couldnt create with foundation, what didnt exist on my face. Now I have a simple but good skin routine and my skin is heaps better than when I had youth on my side! I still love make up, but I need less as my real skin is so much better. Also fashions change, and the matte heavy coverage look that used to be my go to is so dated now - now its all about glowy natural looking skin and enhancing what you have, not painting on a 'look'.

Try telling the young people that! Caked on all the way

frecklejuice · 04/10/2024 11:11

45 here and have been wearing the Erborian CC cream but I look so washed out lately, I'm pale anyway and really need some colour.

If anyone has any recommendations that would be great!

Princessfluffy · 04/10/2024 11:12

I've not worn makeup at all for over ten years. Moisturiser and SPF only here.

I do bother with a good haircut and good clothes but make up? Meh, that can get in the bin.

I don't think that you should be looking for foundation to make you look less washed out. I would suggest that you need to try to boost your skin and how it looks overall (I personally found vitamin C life changing when my skin was permanently dull and washed out starting in my early 40s) so that your foundation or tinted moisteriser is about evening out imperfections. And then you can use bronzer/blusher perhaps to help add some additional colour.

RubyRooRed · 04/10/2024 11:16

Yes , I wear it every day 7 days a week.
I look really tired and drained without it.
I wear a full coverage foundation but brighten up my complexion with highlighter / blusher etc so it’s not a flat look.
