Nice waterproof coat with proper hood

Hello!

I am after a properly waterproof coat, knee length or below (I secretly love rugby coach duvet coats), with an actually functional large hood that will fit over headphones. Over the ear headphones that is. I do an awful lot of dog walking while listening to audiobooks! I would like to look stylish. Don’t mind spending a bit.

any ideas?

There are so many gorgeous ones here. I had terrible insomnia last night so went through them all and have decided I think on the Lands End Squall Stadium plus a primark raincoat, in different colours, so I have one heavy duty coat for dog walking and one just for nipping to Tesco

Thank you all so much

Just been in the driving rain with trusty Didrikson coat on a dog walk. Love it.

Big hood as well - I can wear my hair in a pony tail / bun and it still covers my entire head with an over hang so my face is protected. It's great

I find horse riding clothing sites have good options for fully waterproof and wind proof coats.

I've got the Karrimor 3in1 jacket I bought on a whim in Sports Direct before a hiking trip. It've actually already had it for 5 years with almost daily use and it's still in lovely condition. Waterproofing works great. It comes with detachable fleece so it's versatile and good for all seasons.

I got a SeaSalt one earlier this year for walking the dog in. Waterproof, knee length, is fleece lined on the top half, big pockets and the hood stays up and I can see out of it. It was £155 which was a lot for a coat but it was well worth it. It washes well and dries surprisingly quickly too.

I have this one, I call it my ugly but lovely coat 😂totally waterproof, long so I can wear dresses in the winter and so lightweight - I love it!

Can recommend Protected Species. Waterproof and smart. The trench coat has a hood.

I also do a lot of dog walking in all weathers. Had this for years and love it https://www.sweatybetty.com/shop/tops/jackets/stride-waterproof-parka-SB4932Black.html?cgid=jackets&dwvarr_SB4932Blackkcolor=black&tile=15&oldpid=SB4932Black#start=0&sz=24

The squall is a bit too short but I’ve just seen the Squall Stadium on the website which looks great

Yes, I've done the same! I love those Land's End ones! This one would be my favourite, I think!

I have the Arc'teryx Patera parka. It is waterproof and warm. I use it most days in winter and I have had it for years and it is still like new

I have this - parka shaped so your bum stays dry. 100% waterproof. Best coat I've had in years. Hood is roomy and stays up in the wind

I've had a Didrikson coat for two or three years now. I basically live in it from October until April or May because it is warm but not too warm, not too bulky, huge hood and very waterproof. I got it in the Black Friday sales with a substantial discount.

Me too! It’s fab and keeps you very dry!

Ok I am going to spend the evening on the mountain warehouse, Rains and Ilse Jacobsen websites 🙂

Abandon all of them and just head to the Arcteryx website. If you’re serious about being outdoors, they’re really the only brand to consider. If it’s a waterproof jacket you’re after, the Beta line is where it’s at.

That looks great, and a great price, too! May I ask you all how warm you find it, please? Thank you!

I've got the Didriksons Leya Long, I'm 5ft 5 and it comes halfway down my calf, it's warm (I only need a T-shirt underneath) totally waterproof and looks like new after a wash.
Used it for 3 winters and it's the best coat I've ever had even if it doesn't look the most stylish.

nanodyne · 03/10/2024 11:06

My friend has a coat from here: https://rainsisters.com/en-gb very stylish with a huge hood and very, very waterproof. They do suit taller women though, if that's a consideration.

I'm short and love my RainSisters coat Grin They do petite in most of the styles so perfect on me at 5ft tall Smile

nanodyne · 03/10/2024 12:57

@allaboutthat oh I didn't even think to check... might have to treat myself in that case because they really are gorgeous! 👀

allaboutthat · 03/10/2024 13:01

@nanodyne it's one of my favourite purchases ever. Treat yourself and enjoy your coat! The trickiest part is choosing which one. Can see me buying more next time they have a sale Grin

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/10/2024 13:17

Thanks OP - such fab coats - am spoilt for choice.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 03/10/2024 13:20

I'm thrilled with my Protected Species raincoat. It's a lovely fluid fabric with a thin lining. It's windproof and waterproof and I feel really stylish in it and get lots of compliments. I googled and found a discount code.
