Seeing this on phase 8 I really like this look but definitely wore it about 15 (?) years ago, I'm 55. Is it current? Not that that would stop me wearing it but I see the phase 8 sniffiness on here...

Here you go, same question (without the brand) but about skirts.

I like the short skirt, tall boots look. But am generally sniffy about Phase Eight. (Older than you and don’t shop there. I wouldn’t buy the dress you’ve linked, but it’s much nicer than most of the dresses I’ve glimpsed on the site.)

Do people actually wear these outfits? | Mumsnet

I’m seeing lots of “autumn outfits” on social media like the attached eg a mini skirt with knee high boots. Generally no tights. how do people pull...

It's all personal but a lot of Phase Eight occasion wear looks terrible to me (this sort of thing) but that's not. It's good with the boots

Phase Eight "occasion dress"

StasisMom · 21/09/2024 09:36

When not doing any work yesterday and browsing Mytheresa, I was admiring Etro dresses shaped like this.

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 21/09/2024 09:38

I'm not a phase 8 fan as I think they're overpriced for what they are, ie I'd probably get one for half the price in Next or M and S that's very similar, but that one looks like a nice dress to me. I'm 51 and I'd wear it as the model does without a 2nd thought

Changingplace · 21/09/2024 09:38

Oh I love this look and used to be my go to in autumn winter, I think it looks great :)

I always think phase eight is a bit overpriced but the look in general I like.

Max Mara too.

Coughingalotiscrap · 21/09/2024 09:46

Don't like the long boots, would wear with shorter biker boots tho

StasisMom · 21/09/2024 09:47

Thanks @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - that's Monday sorted!

Doggymummar · 21/09/2024 09:49

I actually don't care about what's in style, but accidentally wore this look yesterday with an old Karen Millen dress and my new knee high boots I can't stop raving about. I thought it looked cute 🥰 I'm 55

henlake7 · 21/09/2024 10:01

Is this an 'am I too old?' or a 'is this brand crap?' question?
or abit of both!😆

Not my style and Ive never bought from Phase 8 but Im 51 and would happily wear something that length and as for brand snobbery, I have a couple of dresses from Primark that I love and wear all the time.
If you look good in something then age or brand doesnt matter.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 21/09/2024 10:58

I can't get my head around knee high boots again, used to be my go to. Nothing wrong with it if you like it.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 21/09/2024 11:16

I'm 46, love this look. I think when you wear black tights with boots like this it is totally different for some reason. And the short dress or skirt needs to not be tight. This is gorgeous and I would wear it.

Packetofcrispsplease · 21/09/2024 12:33

I like that dress , to be fair I’m older than 55 .
I would wear it with tights and boots

Yes a bit of both. It's the long boots and short dress combo though. It used to suit me..hoping it still does!

Short skirt or dress and long boots is definitely back. Net-a-Porter and Mytheresa are filled with it at the moment. And I, for one, am pleased. Sick to the back teeth of ankle boots!

That said, the proportions look a little off to me with that outfit. I think the dress needs to be a tiny bit shorter and not loving those boots.

aliceinanwonderland · 21/09/2024 13:59

I have a phase 8 dress like this from 10 years ago! I was going to give it to charity, but might resurrect it now!
( also fifties)

GenAvocadoOnToast · 21/09/2024 16:44

I love knee high boots but not that style, they look like heeled cowboy boots. I prefer the classic riding boot style. As for the dress, it looks shapeless, the pleats are too much and the inclusion of a zip is odd.

Commonsense22 · 21/09/2024 18:31

Phase 8 is overpriced for the quality of garment BUT they're a lifesaver for pear-shaped tall women who hate fitted clothes with a passion.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 21/09/2024 19:23

I don't get it! What's the problem with Phase 8?
Have I missed the memo,...again!

RunnerDown · 21/09/2024 21:12

That’s a lovely dress. I don’t like phase eight but it’s like every other brand. There may be many misses but there’s always an occasional hit .

Thistooshallpass24 · 21/09/2024 21:58

I like the look, but not the example given as everything swamps the model.
I also prefer flats, I've never worn heels.

MrsWhattery · 21/09/2024 22:58

I'm a similar age OP and I've been thinking about digging out some of my shorter dresses and skirts for winter, to wear with tights and boots. Though probably ankle or mid-calf rather than long boots. I don't normally really stick to fashion but it affected me enough to stop me wearing them somehow! But now they seem to be a thing again and I like the look too.

I think shorter skirts on older women is a good look - I might not want to go super short or get my bare legs out at this point, but it can be a great winter look. As a student I went to see Germaine Greer speak and was impressed with her short skirt and tights! - she would have been in her 50s.

Barney16 · 22/09/2024 07:02

I have taken against Phase 8 after buying, the only time I bought from them, a skirt which I washed as per the instructions and it just was wrecked. I like shirt skirts/dresses, tights and boots but literally cannot find a pair of boots I really like. So, like the look, not keen on Phase 8, not spotted any boots I would buy.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/09/2024 07:33

I really like this dress - the shape, colours, the zip etc. quite tempted!

MrsWhattery · 22/09/2024 11:07

I also think the dress is fab. I love the zip detail too. Sadly I’d look like an expensive sack of potatoes in it - I’ve always loved that shape of dress since Alexa Chung used to wear them 20 years ago - and tried them on in shops and realised it wasn’t happening! I’m a tall, long-bodied pear and I’ve found that despite worrying about my bum I actually look much better in fitted things. But I would also be tempted if it would suit me - it’s very cool somehow.
