Going to a wedding, size 20, love this dress but hate my arms in it. Any recommendations for a suitable jacket etc. bought a faux fur one which is lovely but makes me feel frumpy!

Gorgeous dress. Personally would go for a tuxedo style jacket rather than faux fur or a wrap

How about a bolero jacket?

How about a bolero jacket?

I’ve looked at a few but I was worried they would amplify my arms/struggled to find any I like

Did you see this thread? Some glamorous cape suggestions.

There are 'sleeves' which are like a very minimal long-sleeved bolero, that you can wear under a dress. I've not seen any green ones, though, and have no clue what they're actually called Confused

Black tie, covered shoulders | Mumsnet

I’m going to a black tie event where women have to cover their shoulders at dinner. I know…mad in 2024. Anyway, I’ve found lots of evening dresses I...

Only joking. Could you get a dressmaker to add sleeves?
The dress is gorgeous.

I have a very very similar dress in darkish red I was going to wear to Glyndebourne but lost my nerve. I was going to wear a huge cream silk Spanish embroidered shawl I bought in Madrid many years ago but love the tux/blazer idea.

Nothing wrong with the blazer but I don't think it goes with the long dress for an event. It would look as if she's just put her coat on.

Fair comment - if the OP doesn’t want to uncover her arms for the entire event a blazer may be too much.
found some lovely things on Etsy - this seller looks good https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MammaMiaBridal?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=500622514&from_page=listing&page=2#items

but it may change the look of the dress too much?

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/09/2024 07:24

I’d go for a cropped blazer to match the waistline, which is quite high. I’ve just had a look at Next as they have jackets at a good price.

Next Sale - £26 sheer jacket. Edit - Posting the link didn’t work. Go to sale and type in Women’s Black Jacket and search for size 20. if you scroll down it’s called Black sheer cropped blazer. I will try again to post a photo. Otherwise this one. https://www.next.co.uk/style/su200585/159868#159868. I’ve chosen one with short lapels as I think it’s neater.

Your choice of dress is lovely and I can't find anything quite as nice but I dislike the appearance of my arms so always wear sleeves and would probably go for a dress with sleeves like a pp. Perhaps this

I agree. I don't see the point of buying a dress you like and then hiding part of it. Dresses and jackets aren't easy to get right and most of the bolero, capelets, tuxedos suggested on here as cover ups are generally pretty awful.

Maverick66 · 21/09/2024 10:51

In the nicest possible way.
If you are size 20 it stands to reason your arms are going to be on bigger side.
My advice would be embrace your shape ...make sure your arms are looking in top condition....ie exfoliated moisturised and a light layer of fake tan.
Finish look with a flattering wrap or fur stole.

I am size 22 for reference .

This.

f you must, I'd go for something sheer.

My thought was to get a t-shirt in the exact colour and cut it so that it's just shoulders and sleeves, but enough of the torso to keep it in place, and wear it under the dress.

sort of like this but not a shoulder brace, obviously.
