Will I regret a shag?

They look edgy and cool but am I walking into a hair style disaster?

Would you recommend a shag? Are they as low maintenance and fuss free as they are painted out to be?

If anyone’s interested in the story of the original shag cut, it’s quite cool.

Jane Fonda recalls:
“I had just finished filming “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They” in New York when I made my way to [then-husband Roger] Vadim’s hair stylist in the village, Paul McGregor” she writes in her autobiography. “There I had my first deep hair epiphany. Hair had ruled me for many years. Perhaps I used to hide behind it. The men in my life liked it long and blond, and I had been blond for so long that I didn’t even know what my own color actually was. I simply said to Paul McGregor, ‘Do Something’ and he did. It was the haircut that became famous in “Klute”, the shag, and he dyed my hair darker, like it really was. I didn’t look as if I were trying to imitate Vadim’s other wives anymore [he had been married twice before, to blond bombshells Brigitte Bardot and Annette Vadim. I looked like me! I knew right away that I could do life differently with this hair.

This is too funny. So we are talking hair and not rugs or sex. Glad we got that one cleared up. Slightly dying at the term original shag.

I think that's a high maintenance look. On me it'd look scruffy.

I must be old because I came here really wanting to know about the hair style (and still do - it's got waylaid by the naughty kids at the back of the class!) 😁

I wondered why this was in style & beauty 🤣🤣

Same, massively misjudged where this was going 😂

Sorry teach:
A shag is a haircut
A shag is a haircut
A shag is a haircut

@Mummyoflittledragon Good girl. I will let you choose a friend to go and take a message to Mr Wilson for me in the middle of double maths (there was no greater reward or sign of favour when I was at school)...

Thank you Miss Compash.

We had something like that! The maths teacher chose 2 of the ‘good kids’ from the 5th year (yr11) to take 2 big bags of cash to deposit at the bank 15 mins down the road! I did that twice…

@Compash
i thought I was the 'oldie' because I suppose 'shag' as in sex is probably outdated. I'm 55, so I'll take being one of the 'naughty kids'👍🏻🤣🤣

This is lovely but also not a very shaggy shag to me, so I think go for it. I think there would be little to regret here. It isn't heavily layered so if you hate it and prefer something more one length then it wouldn't take long to grow out. It's quite styled there but is the type of cut you could equally scrunch dry, style with casual waves or do something a bit sleeker.

And me ... that's 4 things with the same name ... a dance, a species of bird (but not a pet one! ...

BodyOdour · 19/09/2024 16:16

@Bobskeleton , that pic is awful.

@learieonthewildmoor How does one ask for one at the hairdresser?
When he asks 'What can I do for you today?', you reply 'I could really do with a shag.'
Smile

Well I clicked thinking it would be something juicy, it is not.
