Will I regret a shag?

They look edgy and cool but am I walking into a hair style disaster?

Would you recommend a shag? Are they as low maintenance and fuss free as they are painted out to be?

Just looks like layers and a fringe to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

PinkArt · 18/09/2024 23:09

What kind of hair do you have? And what kind of shag are you after - a very fashion led almost mullety one, or just a very layered casual haircut? The latter is what I've had versions of for years and suits my hair which is 'fine but loads of it', naturally has a bit of a wave that I can encourage into quite wavy with a very layered cut. Kind of Stevie Nicks if I was cooler!

Am I the only one who thought this was a totally different conversation 🤔 😂

Judging by the responses I think most of us did. Had to google what OP was on about!

And for a general answer, not if he was any good!

There's no MAP for haircuts.

No, but if the MAP doesn't work you're faced with a more difficult growing-out phase.

I'd go for a cormorant every time.

It is layers and a fringe! Works with my hair (wavy if encouraged), is practically no maintenance, and easy to cut your own once you know how it works.

On the other kinds of shag 😂 Only if you're in a committed relationship; yes because you can never get them properly clean; [Edited after seeing Errol's reply] yes unless you have a convenient cliff to house one!

Oh I’m disappointed. I thought, finally a woman on my wavelength, just casually mentioning having a shag!

I like the hairstyle. In future can you pop in brackets “shag (hairstyle)” 😂. Although I’m sure you’ll get loads of traffic, mostly of users wondering why you’ve put this question in S&B lol.

learieonthewildmoor · 19/09/2024 03:44

How does one ask for one at the hairdresser? I think I'd just go for "layered cut".
I am getting my first haircut in about 18 months on Friday and that style would work on me.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/09/2024 04:20

Also thought this was going to be another sort of thread. Having had the hairstyle over 20 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the other sort of shag, I’d say I don’t regret either. Maybe one will lead to the other op?

Bobskeleton · 19/09/2024 07:21

Ah sorry to be boring, the hairstyle not the bedroom antics... Or the home furnishing 😄

I have a good wave in my hair so thinking it will work but agree it's just hair so can always regrow if it's a big fat fail!

How about a wolf cut OP?

Fannyfiggs · 19/09/2024 07:36

Saw the title and thought that's for me. Made a coffee, got a biscuit, got comfy with my phone... and it's a fucking haircut 🙄

🤣

Bobskeleton · 19/09/2024 08:21

Sorry @Fannyfiggs 😂

Yes I've looked at wolf cuts, I love the look but not sure I could go that far. The shag feels like a safer bet.

Can we have a pic of the sort of thing please?

….. the hairstyle obvs

MinnieCauldwell · 19/09/2024 08:34

I had the original shag hair cut in the 1970s, it was always cut with a razor blade, it bloody hurt when they did it as they pulled your hair at the same time. It was a nightmare to grow out and the razor damaged your hair but did give a very shaggy look.

Also, it was part if a wider look, and You dressed a certain way to go with it. Will have to check out todays shag cuts, any pics?

Happii · 19/09/2024 08:36

Depends on your hair type and face shape really, if you have a hairdresser you trust I'm sure they'll be honest with you!

Josette77 · 19/09/2024 08:37

I've regretted my fair share of shags.

MinnieCauldwell · 19/09/2024 08:45

Just very nervously googled shags and the modern day version is not really a shag that I remember, just looks like choppy layers.
Got me thinking about 70s shags now...rather wish I hadn't seen the thread..

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 19/09/2024 08:46

I had one last year, it looked good for a week and then awful. I had a trim, again great for a week. I’m still growing it out.

Threewheeler1 · 19/09/2024 08:47
is this love GIF

A possible combination of the two themes 😁
I always like to have my thyroid checked down at the local industrial estate, in the fog.

I'd say go for it with the hair - nice haircut, looks versatile and easy to floof and go.

Deargodletitgo · 19/09/2024 09:14

How about a wolf cut?

Although tbf, I never turn down a good shag 🤣

Bobskeleton · 19/09/2024 09:16

This is what I'm thinking. I realise it's probably a softer version of the original shag.
