Rain coats

Hi, I'm looking for stylish yet functional raincoats.

Please no seasalt or similar recommendations as I think they look like unflattering sacks. I have a protected species one but find the collar quite huge, however it is fitting so I like that bit.

I am a petite size 8-10 so prefer something with a bit of shape, not sack like.

I have a Helly Hanson navy raincoat with an internal ‘belt’ (a string to tighten) to create a shape. I’m petite and this is to my knee.

This looks lovely, I'm just not a fan of big branding 🙈.

DIdriksons are brilliant - I've got an A line style one that I can wear dog walking but is smart enough to throw on over work clothes if it's pissing it down. It's also got the best hood on it that I've ever had on a coat.

If you're feeling splurgy though then look at rain sisters. They are raincoats of beauty.

PickledWilly · 06/09/2024 17:09

Lululemon rebel is perfect

Flamingmentalcats · 06/09/2024 18:43

I have finally settled on one from mountain warehouse. It's a 3 in 1 and about £129. I would have liked it a little longer as I am petit and it comes just above my knee but it's the nicest one I have tried on that not sack like. It's called Alaskan. The green is gorgeous but I bought the grey so I might be seen easier in the dark

I’m 5’3 size 8 and recently bought this from Uniqlo, which I’m very pleased with.

It’s not fitted but it’s cropped and in the XXS it looks right on me whereas most rain coats drown me.

It isn’t fully waterproof, it is water resistant, so depends if that’s enough for you. I prefer it as the fully waterproof ones are non breathable and sweaty, and it’s enough. for an unexpected shower on my way somewhere. But it probably wouldn’t work if you regularly stand or walk in the rain for ages.

I am also a petite 8-10 and I love the Commuter coat from Protected Species

TheFireflies · 06/09/2024 23:34

Second rainsisters if you’ve the budget for it. Gorgeous coats.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 07/09/2024 00:03

I know you said no sacks but have a look at the Holzweiler solidarity poncho raincoat. I love mine, it's functional and looks stylish. Plus roomy enough to wear chunky jumpers underneath on cold and wet days.

Bearpawk · 07/09/2024 04:53

Have a look on stutterheim. They do various shapes and are extremely waterproof - not just water resistant

I just bought my first Rainsisters coat; it’s so beautiful (and extremely waterproof!)

yoshiblue · 07/09/2024 05:09

I love my Didriksons raincoat but was rather expensive for me £180.

Day to day Uniqlo is brilliant for raincoats, and perfect for petite ladies being Japanese. Didriksons is good for tall scandi people, but I manage.

igiveuptrying · 07/09/2024 05:12

What’s the sizing like on the rainsisters coats?

WorldWideWords · 07/09/2024 06:33

I have recently gone through this process and I have so far returned everything I have bought. I am a size 8, 5.1".
Musto have some nice options but I found them all slightly too technical, didn't like the visible logo on the sleeve, and the sleeves were too long.
Protected Species were gorgeous but even the smallest size felt boxy and again, sleeves were too long.
ACAI made me feel like a toddler ready to jump on puddles.
Helly Hansen was too technical, nothing stylish about it.

Still looking...

Twilightstarbright · 07/09/2024 06:59

Love my rain sisters one and it’s breathable.

Aria20 · 07/09/2024 08:01

Wow just looked at rain sisters coats - gorgeous but nearly £400 for a rain coat! Anyone know any good dupes?!

sangriaandsunshineplease · 07/09/2024 08:24

I got an emergency one in Primark a couple of years ago and still haven't found one I like any more. For me, it's the fact that the waist tightening bit is in the same place as my actual waist. It's quite rubbery so waterproof and less sweaty than I thought it might be.

ChilliPB · 07/09/2024 08:30

I would recommend Sweaty Betty as I’m very happy with the rain coat I got from there a few years ago. I would also check out Rains and Stufterheim. None will have obvious branding and they do a mixture of shapes and sizes.

As an aside I always feel like we are being spammed by Rain Sisters at the moment. There’s always someone that turns up saying something along the lines of they love ‘sashaying’ around in their Rain Sisters coat 😂 Maybe it’s unfair but they are really expensive and so very twee.

Really good. i am 4foot 10 and a size 14-16, I went for the petite xl and honestly it fits me like it was made for me, I find a lot of coats tight around the old bingo wings, but this fits well without pinching.

I got mine on sale for about 185 euro, so about 160. Aren’t they usually about 250? Are you looking on Wolf & Badger? They are cheaper on their own website.

Check out Lands End.
