Have Mitchum changed their formula?

I've been using Mitchum roll on deodorant for years as it's the only deodorant that stops me smelling since I hit perimenopause. However, over the last few weeks my underarms have been unbearably itchy to the point where it's waking me up at night. I'm wondering if the formula of Mitchum may have changed, and if so, whether there's an alternative deodorant that will stop me smelling without going round scratching like a baboon??

I don't know as I've only just started using it but their "no white marks" claim is bullshit

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 03/09/2024 08:10

No help but.. omg me too!

However I was using dove originally and getting really itchy, so then switched to Mitchum only to have exactly the same problem 🫤 I thought it was just me

OldTinHat · 03/09/2024 08:12

I've been using Mitchum for years too, same reason. I've not experienced any itching - yet?! It still works perfectly well.

TheGriffle · 03/09/2024 08:12

Not perimenopausal but I have one whiffy armpit. The only things I’ve found which has worked recently was either non perfumed Mitchum roll on at night, then Wild deoderant (sea salt and sage only!) but that would be no good if the unperfumed has the same itchy effect.

The best thing I’ve found is Triple dry Active (green coloured one) on at night then a little more in the morning dried with a hair dryer. No more stinky pits and my problem one used to still smell after a scrub in the shower with a flannel and soap.

Lovemybunnies · 03/09/2024 08:14

It could just be that it is making your skin really dry. I have this problem too.

Livinginchaos · 03/09/2024 08:15

I have used Mitcham for about 25 years. Never an issue. Until now. I'm not itchy but did come up with a persistent rash. I assumed it was me that was the issue, but looks like Mitchum must have changed their ingredients if I'm not the only one.

I am trialling an aluminium free antiperspirant but jury is out over whether it works well enough. Rash has gone though!

Regards your one stinky pit. Have you had laser hair removal by any chance? I have heard it can cause a problem like this, which put me off it.

Pigeonqueen · 03/09/2024 08:18

Yep me too. I do suspect some of it in my case is peri menopause because my skin is much more sensitive and itchy in general and I know from when I went on HRT before that that was one of the first symptoms to go - and to come back when I had to stop it for medical reasons. I’ve had to switch to Sanex and Wild (alternating as I like the Wild but it leaves marks). Very annoying.

Quacking4it · 03/09/2024 08:22

I thought it was me, last I used it I had burning itchy skin and a rash it was awful. Never had that before. I use sanex now.

rookiemere · 03/09/2024 08:24

I think they have changed it. No itchy skin but damp armpits mid afternoon when previously it worked for the whole day.

TheGriffle · 03/09/2024 08:27

@MinnieCauldwell no, no laser, happens with hair or without. Lovely inherited trait I got from my father who has the same issue! 😂

mawbroon · 03/09/2024 08:38

Same here. Used it for years with no problems.

A few months ago I got an unbearably itchy rash which only went away after I stopped using it.

whyw · 03/09/2024 09:03

I think they might have - I've not been itchy but I have noticed the consistency is more watery!

Tiddlywinkly · 03/09/2024 09:43

I've been using the stick version with no problems.

I tried the aluminium free cream version. Absolute crap protection against dampness.

When you say stick do you mean the solid antiperspirant block one ? might give that a try

spikeandbuffy24 · 03/09/2024 10:07

I use the sure cream one you apply at night, works really well

Freedbagforlife · 03/09/2024 10:09

Yes they have changed it recently. The texture of the stick ones has changed. There were more threads on here at the time of change. Since the shortage in lockdown I’ve kept a stash and have only just moved over to the new formula ones.

wobblyweasel · 03/09/2024 10:11

Ive been experiencing itchiness too! I've used Mitcham for years and it certainly helped during the menopause to keep me fresh and dry. This last month or so I've done nothing but itch.

PointyHairyLegHairs · 03/09/2024 10:13

Itchy pits was one of my meno symptoms, stopped when I started HRT.

themagicnumberthree · 03/09/2024 16:16

Thanks, I'll give Sanex a try as the scratching isn't a good look! I've been on HRT for 4 years but never been offered a review, maybe should ask for one in case it needs tweaking or increasing

Itchy pits during perimenopause. Only stopped when I upped my oestrogen.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/09/2024 17:13

Sanex is good

Suzuki70 · 03/09/2024 17:16

They must have done something because I've tried roll-on and the cream stick thing recently and neither work any more! I'm using some horrible but effective Sure cream thing that cost me about £7.

AmateurNoun · 03/09/2024 17:26

Ah it stopped working so well for me too recently and I didn't realise why, but I am delighted as it forced me to try Wild and that is working so well and is more natural. Specifically I use the cotton and sea salt one after reading some reviews here which said that one works well and some other Wild scents aren't as effective for some people.

I have only had success with Mitchum before as every natural deodorant left me very stinky. So I'm shocked that the Wild is working. My husband has confirmed that it's working and he wasn't shy about telling me that the other natural ones I tried weren't effective 😳so I know he's not trying to spare my feelings

Switching to Wild has meant that I can start using my Lumea to remove my armpit hair too. I tried it when using Mitchum but has to stop as you're not supposed to use the Lumea with those types of deodorants and my underarms became unbearably itchy. I'm only a few weeks in so not much difference yet but I am looking forward to seeing the difference.

deeahgwitch · 03/09/2024 18:43

I used Sanex for years but just found it not as effective and took ages to dry.
I was recommended on Mumsnet to try the Mitchum push up stick stuff and I have found it better than Sanex. It dries way quicker.
