Have Mitchum changed their formula?

I've been using Mitchum roll on deodorant for years as it's the only deodorant that stops me smelling since I hit perimenopause. However, over the last few weeks my underarms have been unbearably itchy to the point where it's waking me up at night. I'm wondering if the formula of Mitchum may have changed, and if so, whether there's an alternative deodorant that will stop me smelling without going round scratching like a baboon??

Same here. Got a ring like rash round my armpit and had to see the doctors. Took a while to clear after stopping it too

They must have done something because I've tried roll-on and the cream stick thing recently and neither work any more! I'm using some horrible but effective Sure cream thing that cost me about £7.

If you don't mind Amazon, the sure cream is cheaper in bulk on there
I paid about £22 for 6

AmyBooker · 03/09/2024 21:46

I have noticed that it doesn't work as well recently, I used to have a little BO when I was younger but mitchum stopped it completely for years.. now I'm noticing I'm starting to smell after a few hours.
I have read that Wild is a good alternative and so have just ordered some to give that a try.

Can I give some advice on how to really get rid of BO?

Hibiscrub and salicylic acid toner. Then whatever antiperspirant you like.

Hibiscrub (called Hibiclens in the US) is an antimicrobial liquid soap for medical use. It will kill the bacteria that create the odour. I don't recommend it for a full body wash, but just in the pits (or any other area where you might get sweaty, like near the groin. Keep it well away from your vagina!)

Salicylic acid toner (any will do, the kind you find in the acne skin care section) will lower the pH of the skin to be in hospitable to the bacteria. Wiping a cotton pad of it on your pits after showering will work and it's a quick way to freshen up during the day.

Finally, antiperspirant will deprive the bacteria of the sweat they feed on.

If you do these things, you'll be odour free, I promise.

I have been itchy and have a small patch that looks like eczema. I thought it was perimenopause related.

It’s not just smell for me, it’s the actual sweat patches too. I don’t want big wet patches under my arms!

ToBeOrNotToBee · 04/09/2024 00:08

I've had to stop using Mitchum after years and years of only using their sport formula.
For some reason it stopped working, as in I started to stink.
I've switched to Wild and found it more effective.

Onwardsandsidewaysyetagain · 04/09/2024 00:12

Good I found this thread as I was starting to wonder if it was just me, first the itching, and then it not lasting throughout the day. I've managed through the whole menopause and this has just happened the past few months. Not sure what to do next, but I've been using it and then a spray deodorant, and that has helped, but glad to know it's not just I'm a bit of a stinker.

funnyoldonion · 04/09/2024 00:16

Same here! Used for twenty years and recently itching and rash! I might try wild!

Middlenamespot · 04/09/2024 00:19

Weird! I use the stick that you push up always found it great, but the last one that I bought just didn’t work as well 🤔 I just thought I was extra sweaty this month!

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 04/09/2024 06:27

I’ve found Witch hazel is also good to freshen up armpits

themagicnumberthree · 04/09/2024 08:18

Does Wild stop you sweating or is it purely a deodorant?

It’s not specifically an anti perspirant, but it does seem to absorb sweat really well - and I say that as someone who only swore by Mitchum for years. I think it does feel quite heavy at first though; it’s hard to explain, but if you just try it you get used to it and it smells lovely. It’s a bit messy though.

OrangeCrusher · 04/09/2024 17:13

Yep, me too. Used the cream stick for years but I can’t take the itching anymore so I’ve switched to Dove. Thinking about using Wild but not sure if it will be as effective.

Suzuki70 · 04/09/2024 17:16

At least 70% of why I use antiperspirant is avoidance of wet patches so I don't think I can risk Wild.

Tronkmanton · 04/09/2024 17:22

I’ve just had the same with Dove max protection deodorant that I’ve been using for years. I thought it might be peri menopause symptoms? Or maybe they’ve all had an ingredient change for some reason?

Thank you, have just ordered one to try

I’ve just found this thread via Google search as my pits are STINKING. Mitchum was the only thing that worked!

I have also just googled after having the same issue!
I've used Mitchum roll on for years but it no longer works. I'm peri so thought it could be a symptom of that but maybe not then 🤔

Browsing2023 · 20/04/2025 23:26

Sorry I’m reviving a dead thread, I just want to say thank you and post in case others are having the same issue.

i used Mitchum for years but recently have been getting very red raw and sore under my arms with the spray one and my husband did too. I initially put it down to chaffing and moved to the cream stick.

i have found it ok but a wee bit itchy but didn’t put 2 and 2 together until my husband came out in a massive rash on his neck and doctors said contact dermatitis. We hadn’t changed anything so couldn’t think what it could be and only realised it’s from him essentially lying on my boob/arm in bed and the rash was exactly where my armpit would have been on him.

changed antiperspirant and all been good since.

so essentially I’m complaining…what the hell is Mitchum putting in their antiperspirant??

ChloBo01 · 05/09/2025 08:58

I think they have changed their ingredients, I got a chemical burn from using it after using mitchums for over a year. Not only was I itching to the point it was waking me up in the night, it was leaving marks on my clothes and I was smelling of odour half way through the day when I’d never had that issue using mitchums before. Going to call them today to see if they have changed their ingredients and to try and get a product recall. Added photos to show what I looked like at the start of the reaction but it got a lot worse than this

Woah me too!! So glad you posted, I thought it was me or peri as I’ve used it years no problems. Infuriating!

MrsTaytodarling · 05/09/2025 09:29

Omg really itchy pits the last few weeks but have been using mitchum for years! Interesting to see this post...

CoffeeWithHer · 05/09/2025 09:40

I’ve use M for years too but I’ve noticed it’s more watery now. No itching though.

I’m currently using the one from Tropic - I’ve used it before and really love the smell but as you can’t used pick up in the supermarket I forgot about it. It’s all natural, gorgeous whiff and I feel like I’m doing good for the pits 🤣 Goes on like a cream but dries quickly and still get some white marks but not enough for me to stop using it. But if your skin is more sensitive then I so recommend this one xx

sunshinechaser · 05/09/2025 09:45

Wow-glad I found this thread as I have had exactly the same reaction. I’ve been using Mitchum for about 10 years. Took a new roll-on bottle on holiday and my underarms were ripped to shreds! It was like a chemical burn-severe rash and itchy hives and was so painful. I think I’ll email them to find out the new ingredient that may be causing this. What anti perspirant is nicest to switch to? I’ve been using DH’s spray on stuff but don’t really like it.

Belladog1 · 05/09/2025 09:49

I just recently bought some M roll on, as I had seen it recommended on here. I have tried it once, but it never seems to dry on me. I seem to have really warm armpits.

Having been a sweaty betty all my life, I need help daily (and have worn nothing but black for my entire life (51 now)). I have used all the high strength jobbies that you put on at night and wash off in the morning, only to find my arm pits burnt and sore.

To be honest, I just use Sure spray. It seems to work OK, and although I do occasionally get an odd sweaty patch, most of the time I don't and I don't smell either.
