Have Mitchum changed their formula?

I've been using Mitchum roll on deodorant for years as it's the only deodorant that stops me smelling since I hit perimenopause. However, over the last few weeks my underarms have been unbearably itchy to the point where it's waking me up at night. I'm wondering if the formula of Mitchum may have changed, and if so, whether there's an alternative deodorant that will stop me smelling without going round scratching like a baboon??

Me too! Very itchy for the last couple of weeks and I was actually worried I had scabbed as I’ve been travelling recently. However, it seems to have stopped itching now.

QueenOfTheDarkAges · 06/09/2025 20:07

One more suggestion for you - Mitchum was always my favourite deodorant but I live in Spain where it's not available. I use the own brand from either Aldi or Lidl in the blue and white roll on and it's just as good - a happy surprise. The only issue I have with it is that the rollerball is possibly a bit lose so if it falls on its side it can leak a bit, so I'm careful to keep it upright. I don't know if they have the exact same range in the UK but might be worth a look if you're shopping there anyway.

I’ve had severe burns from it for the last 3 weeks. I stopped using it immediately as I had open sores and they are just starting to scab over. Does anyone know where I can report this ? Mitchum needs removing from sale

SauvignonBlanche · 06/09/2025 20:16

I’m actually glad to see a zombie thread.

I’ve been using Mitchum roll on for years with good effect.
My itchy armpits have been driving me mad recently and keeping me awake st night.

suki1964 · 06/09/2025 20:22

I went through peri just when the deodorant companies introduced their "extra strength " ranges, which meant I had to go from a £1.50 always worked before - to their £5 "extra" for the same protection

Post meno Ive settled on Sanex stick - its pennies compared to the extras and I need only apply once or twice a week ( yes I do shower daily )

Only now Im finding that's as rare as hens teeth to find in my part of the world

crappycrapcrap · 06/09/2025 20:32

Oh that’s crazy! I thought it was peri-itch…

it’s been awful - I’m binning my deodorant tonight reading this

SauvignonBlanche · 06/09/2025 20:35

I stock up when they’re on offer - I’ve got 3 unopened ones. 😡

REDB99 · 06/09/2025 20:36

I’ve had to stop using it due to excessive itching. It’s totally gone now I’ve switched to dove. It’s been mentioned on here before. I’ve no idea why they would change the formula and lose customers 🤷‍♀️

Not perimenopausal but I have one whiffy armpit. The only things I’ve found which has worked recently was either non perfumed Mitchum roll on at night, then Wild deoderant (sea salt and sage only!) but that would be no good if the unperfumed has the same itchy effect.

The best thing I’ve found is Triple dry Active (green coloured one) on at night then a little more in the morning dried with a hair dryer. No more stinky pits and my problem one used to still smell after a scrub in the shower with a flannel and soap.

I found Triple Dry the best by far….until recently. My pits started getting wet again.

I emailed them. They confirmed they have very recently changed the formula.

FattyBumBumNoMore · 06/09/2025 20:47

My 20 year old daughter had red raw armpits too. Literally like she’d been burnt.

Interestingly there’s a load of TikToks at the moment with young women saying the same, so unlikely to be perimenopause. From one I saw today, Mitchum have denied they’ve changed the formula.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 06/09/2025 20:48

Everyone is saying this tbh x

I just switched to Mitcham a couple of weeks ago, and tbh, notice no difference from my usual lidl own brand roll on and spray on deodorant 😒😒

FurForksSake · 06/09/2025 20:49

I’ve seen lots of TikTok videos of people saying it’s changed as is awful.

They are now, but not a year ago when the thread was posted

AutumnAtLast0 · 07/09/2025 09:40

Yes, after years of using it, the pink ‘Powder Fresh’ roll on caused me a red, itchy reaction a couple of weeks ago.

sunshinechaser · 07/09/2025 09:44

I got this (vomit inducing) reply back from Revlon who make Mitchum. They say they haven’t changed their formula.

Have Mitchum changed their formula?

Thank you for updating and agree that's a nauseatingly worded response - who do they think they're addressing? Why would a customer who's had a bad experience want to hear that kind of twaddle? But anyway, like the PP, my issue was with a newly bought (within the last month) pink Powder Fresh roll on, which I've binned after realising it was the cause of the itchiness and sore rash. From what people have said about it being talked about on TikTok, it's on the company to do their own research into wtf is going on with the product if they genuinely haven't changed the formula, as it's clearly more than one bad batch.

RubyJack · 07/09/2025 10:52

Interesting to read all the comments ,
I used it for years and had to stop as I had the most awful rashes under both arms
Now using Nivea and no issues at all.

OldYorkMum · 07/09/2025 11:07

Was coming on to say DD has been complaining about the burning /rash specifically from the POWDER PINK ROLL ON. That is the one identified on TikTok. She’s swapped to a different scent and it’s fine.
I use the spray at home and solid stick when travelling (doesn’t count as a liquid Wink) and no issues.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 07/09/2025 11:13

Blimey, glad I've seen this.

I've been scratching like mad recently, and now I think about it, it was after I bought a new Mitchums.

CanOfMangoTango · 07/09/2025 11:21

I use the powder fresh mitchum . But I stocked up early this year and I'm only now getting onto my last one.

I'm worried about buying new ones now.

InMyShowgirlEra · 07/09/2025 12:06

Ah I thought it was because I bought a different scent and had an allergy to it.

Yes. Horrible red rash, itchy and sore.

Any recommendations for a decent anti-perspirant (not a deodorant!) that doesn't burn people's skin?

sunshinechaser · 07/09/2025 12:10

My reaction was from the 48hr Shower Fresh roll on so I don’t think it’s isolated to just one fragrance.

I'm not sure they did change the formula

I stopped using the mitchum roll on years ago as it would kill my armpits. Red and itchy.

The stick is ok though.

WortyStJohn · 07/09/2025 12:26

I posted about Mitchum a while ago too. I've used the Powder Fresh roll on for decades, I used to ship it from the States before it was sold in the UK. The scent has definitely changed and is quite sickly so I swapped to unscented but l couldn't get that last time and had to buy Shower Fresh, I've had the armpit itch for a while now but didn't even relate it to my deodorant and it's definitely not peri/meno related with me. I'll stop using it now.

I tried the Wild discount link posted above but got fed up and closed the webpage down after the 3rd or 4th popup so think I'll try Sanex.

Try the mitchum stick. It really works and doesn't burn me like the roll on does. I use the yellow one.
