Awful green jumpsuit?

user1471867483 · 31/08/2024 13:09

I bought a safari-style jumpsuit similar in colour to this (below) - (this is not the jumpsuit btw). My mum can't stand the colour of it and says because I'm so fair, the colour doesn't suit me. I was thinking of dyeing it. What colour should I dye it to?

Forgetting for a minute what your mum said-
do you like the colour? If so then keep it as it is!

Weirdly enough, my mum hates this colour too. I have a bag in this colour and she always tells me she doesn’t like it, and a dress that I wore for lunch with her the other day and she didn’t like that either. Is it a mum thing? 🤣

InfradeadToUltraviolent · 31/08/2024 16:50

I hate that colour personally and would dye it forest green or black in a heartbeat and live with the mismatched thread. But then I wouldn't have bought something that colour in the first place: you did so presumably you don't mind it.

Can you get a second opinion on whether it suits you? Do you think it suits you?

seven201 · 31/08/2024 17:04

I recently dyed a sage green linen jumpsuit a dark teal with dylon machine dye. Worked wonderfully. Yes the thread stayed lighter, but I thought it would, but it's not that obvious as I didn't go for a hugely different colour. I vote dye dark green, grey or brown - whichever colour you like the most.

WhiteCamellia · 31/08/2024 17:33

That colour would be stunning on a fair person with warm undertones. If that's you, don't change it. I have a strawberry blond friend who shines in colours like this that would be off or dull on cool-toned people. Some kind of apricot or muted coral lipstick and pale gold shimmer on the eyes and cheekbones too, maybe?

Isometimeswonder · 31/08/2024 18:17

Wear what YOU like, not what your mum says! You're not 5.

hereismydog · 31/08/2024 13:40

I like the colour 🤷🏼‍♀️ and it suits pretty much every skin tone.

I wouldn’t risk dyeing it and ruining it, if you really don’t want to wear it as it is, just put it on Vinted and buy something you like!

It definitely wouldn't suit me...

WhiteCamellia · 31/08/2024 18:54

It wouldn't suit me either (blue undertones, can just about get away with forest or emerald green) but it would be amazing on anyone who can wear peach, copper, bronze, shrimp, deep ivory, and all those fey tones

Thank you. I was also thinking of jeans blue colour?

Do you know what the fabric is? It doesn't say on the website, but I would venture a guess that it's polyester. You have zero chance of dyeing that jumpsuit jeans blue, trust me.

It's linen.

Mate, it's not linen. I've had this before with "too cheap to be true" "linen" articles from China. It's not linen and it won't dye.

GettingStuffed · 01/09/2024 00:45

I'm fair and can wear this colour. It may be that your mum just doesn't like the colour and that clouds her judgement.

TheEmperorsNewClothes · 01/09/2024 07:53

it doesn't say what it's made of which really matters when you're dying

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 01/09/2024 08:14

The OP has said that the jumpsuit in her link is not the one she owns - just an illustration of the colour.

But if yours is a similar price, @user1471867483, or if any part of it is synthetic (such as the stitching mentioned above) it’s not going to be worth the cost of dye. You almost certainly won’t get the result you hope for.

And anyway - you obviously like the original colour. Maybe time to grow a backbone? That couldn’t fail to be stylish.

HidingFromDD · 01/09/2024 08:23

If you’ve got warm skin tones then wear as is and ignore your mother. If you’ve got cool skin tones then, as pp said, you may want to rethink. I’m blond with cool tones and this colour makes me look old, sallow and ill, it’s literally the one colour I never wear. Really annoying.

wrt dyeing it, different shade of green, emerald/forest but accept it may not work at all. Or sell it on

"Everything5pounds" isn't like Shein, it's cheap because it's overstock from manufacturers that hasn't sold that they've bought up for a flat price, not (necessarily) because it was cheaply made in the first place. So it's perfectly possible that it's linen and she's got a bargain because she's prepared to put up with that marmite colour.

KirstenBlest · 01/09/2024 09:17

The garment should have a care label, and you can usually tell from the feel of the fabric if it's linen.

If you order something that looks stylish but at a too-good-to-miss price, and it's from a company you've never heard of, don't be too surprised that the cotton-linen fabric is polyester-blend. Looking at you jumpsuit I bought from ebay a few summers ago - the style is great but the fabric horrible. I got a refund, but what a waste.

AnnaMagnani · 01/09/2024 09:42

How often do you see your mum? Just wear it on days you aren't seeing her.

Or wear it on days you are seeing her and say 'thanks mum but I love it, isn't it great we all have different opinions'

Barney16 · 01/09/2024 10:48

I would take my mother NOT liking it as a sign that it looked lovely on me and really suited me. 🙂

My mum can't stand the colour of it

Your mother isn’t wearing it, though. Why does her opinion matter? Do you choose her clothes for her?? Hmm

I was going to say this. If you like it, what does it matter what your mother thinks?

She sounds very rude.

abracadabra1980 · 01/09/2024 19:30

I love that colour. But was visibly shocked when the 44.0 % APR popped up on Very's link (realise you have not intimated whatsoever that you are using such an abominable interest rate!

flirtyqwerty · 01/09/2024 19:57

it suits pretty much every skin tone

Er, not mine it doesn't! My skin is a bit sallow and my hair mousy so this is the worst colour on me. Not flattering at all. Anyway, with fair skin it might be fine. If you're happy in it don't risk the dye and ignore your DM.

Jw1 · 02/09/2024 02:12

It sounds horrendous if I were you Instant of spending more money on recolouring it,why don't you donate it to a charity shop.. while your there maybe you could look around and buy something better in the charity shop

That's lovely but it would be a nightmare to iron being 100% cotton.

This thread title made me listen to Famous Blue Raincoat for the first time in many, many years, so thanks for that, OP! 😃
