Hello
I’m Struggling to find non flowery non midi/maxi dresses for work! Please help! Ideally I would wear trousers, a long top/jumper to cover the C-section overhang with nice trainers (work in sen so have to run!) but I can never find trousers big enough for the overhand that don’t hang off my thighs. I’m a size 22 in order to get clothes to fit my stomach but the rest of me would be about an 18 though I can’t wear shirt dresses as boobs too big!

I’m happy to wear shorter dresses with snag tights but getting a bit bogged down with having to wear frumpy cardigans as well to cover the rolls on fat at the back.

longer dresses which seem to be flowery in plus size just feel like too much jazzy material.

i am 46, in a management teacher but can be causal due to the type of students we have.

can anyone help?

M&S? They do some lovely dresses

Phineyj · 31/08/2024 12:18

Try Popsy and Seasalt.

slug · 31/08/2024 12:47

Popsy. Stretchy and with pockets!! These formed the basis of my working wardrobe in my size 22 teaching years.

Summerperfume · 31/08/2024 13:27

Why is the dreaded popsy always recommended 🤢

husbandcallsmepickle · 31/08/2024 13:30

Another recommendation for Popsy

Happyhappymeee · 31/08/2024 13:31

Thanks but the popsy style prints are exactly what I’m trying to avoid. I don’t like loud prints

Popsy

OohCrumbs · 31/08/2024 14:13

I see what you mean @Happyhappymeee , maybe the Sainsbury’s Tu ones might be better price wise

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 31/08/2024 15:05

Buy the trousers, take them to your local alterations service and have them tailored to fit.

Phineyj · 31/08/2024 15:45

Popsy have plain stuff?

I can understand SLT not wanting bunsen burner print or whatever 😂

Martymcfly24 · 31/08/2024 15:51

Same size and job as you and I get the majority of my work clothes in Tesco. They do long sleeve jersey dresses that can be worn with runners or tights and ankle boots.

I'll be lambasted for this but I also buy from Shein Curve for work .

Cider have some great drawstring waste black trousers. They look smart on but feel like joggers!

Comes with a top that is useless but I have 3 pairs for the same job as you!

Another vote for Popsy

Joyfulincolour · 31/08/2024 16:23

I've found M&S and Next good for work dresses.

Aydel · 31/08/2024 19:32

I like the Cider trousers. I’d pair those (or some stretchy flared yoga pants) with a tunic top. Try Live Unlimited or Seasalt, or M & S. I don’t get the love for Popsy, sweaty polyester, ugh.

madaboutpurple · 31/08/2024 19:46

How about looking on Ebay or Vinted.

madaboutpurple · 31/08/2024 19:48

Have you thought of looking on eBay/vinted. There is a German company Ullapopken and lots of their things are on eBay

madaboutpurple · 31/08/2024 19:51

Sorry I seem to have sent two similar posts, apologies it is my first time of posting and I am not familiar with sites like this.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 31/08/2024 22:15

If you are a size 18 everywhere else but 22 round the middle, and you like/don't mind wearing long tops over trousers, I'm wondering if maternity trousers might be a solution. Nobody would know under the long tops!

Tereseta · 31/08/2024 22:17

Popsy is awful, sweaty fabric and goes bobbly so fast. All the pre loved ones have bobbling as do the ones I have seen in the wild.
I have a similar body shape and buy next tailored trousers and get them altered. I have three pairs I rotate and wear with either plain t shirts or tops.
