Renae Green Jumpsuit
Interview is in the morning and next week - weather should be fine and I will get there by public transport

Will wear black flat pointed ballerinas and a black leather briefcase

My style is very casual / sportive in general

I work from home but when I go to my office I choose basic workwear as it is very relaxed - this new place is a lot more formal

If there are any recruiters, HR, interviewers here:
1- what do you notice clothes wise during an interview?
2 - what puts you off if anything?
3 - is it ever ok to wear below the knees dress / skirt without tights?

What kind of job is it? I wouldn't think that's appropriate for banking etc but maybe a creative/journo job?

Do you not have a suit, or shirt and trousers?

Tulipvase · 27/08/2024 23:12

I’m not in those roles but I wonder about it being sleeveless? I love the colour though. Good luck!

TheOGCCL · 27/08/2024 23:13

Yes does depend on sector as that would be super smart for mine!

Summertimer · 27/08/2024 23:16

Wear a jacket with it to make it smarter.

Also lolz at very sulky model

It is not banking but it has to do with finances / business - sorry I don't want to go into details but it is a bit of a bid deal

I have separate blouses and trousers but I didn't buy then as a pair and I hate tucking it in and using belts so it does not look polished for formal occasion - fine when WFH or a more casual work environment like the one I'm in now - I hate blazers, they look awful on me

I also have dresses that could work nicely but I don't usually wear skin colour tights and not sure if black would be suitable for an interview in the summer in the morning

For some reason I always feel confident when I'm wearing jumpsuits 😅

Law here. If I were interviewing you I'd be a bit boggled that you turned up with bare arms and a jumpsuit for an interview.

Thanks

thought about the sleeves too but since the shoulders are not showing and the neckline is quite modest I thought it would be ok

The place will have aircon for sure

I don't like blazers but I found a jacket on M&S that might work so I can keep it more serious

too smart for mine too, so now I'm out of my depth

If you are determind to wear this then get a jacket similar to the one the model has and wear it properly, not just over your shoulders.

Tickletuesday · 27/08/2024 23:21

I think it will be absolutely fine. It’s smart, a great colour and if it suits you then go for it.

GrumpyMiddleAgedCow · 27/08/2024 23:22

It’s lovely but I wouldn’t go sleeveless, I hi would wear a long sleeve fitted black t-shirt under it.

Rightly or wrongly put offs would be:

  1. my only “looks” one do you have overly done hair/makeup (as much as you look fab are you going to be consistently late with all the prep that must take)
  2. are you prepared for the interview (have you fully understood the job description/looked up the company/thought about how your skills align with the job)

all the luck 🍀 x

Cool

Would a jacket / blazer maybe soften the fact that it is a jumpsuit?

It is not law although I will closely work with the legal team - however they won't be in the interview

Can you show pictures of you wearing it? That sounds really creepy 😂, but just to see what it looks like. I don't think it's appropriate on the model for a corporate interview because she's probably tall and there's something about the fit which doesn't look right to me for interview... something about the waist area, I don't know.

Ahhh haven't bought it yet

Think I will sleep on it and order tomorrow

The model is a few inches taller than me and apparently wears my next size up

The crotch area is weird I think

It's not a question of softening it , more that I think it would just look weird- like you'd forgotten your jacket or left it on the train. Or you'd forgotten that you were going for an interview.

I'll be honest , I don't like jumpsuits. There are a few people in the office who wear them and that's ok but I don't think I've seen one at an interview.

I work in finance and would think it a bit odd if someone wore a jumpsuit to an interview. I always state business dress and would assume they didn't read the invite correctly. I don't think I would notice if someone wasn't wearing tights.

Thistooshallpass24 · 27/08/2024 23:38

I think it's fab, but not for an interview
Jumpsuits are hard to do well I think they often "cut" people's body in weird proportions, sleeveless somehow doesn't seem professional.and you would have to find something very proportionate to wear with it, if you went down the jacket route
Also they are a bugger to go to the toilet in, what of you need nervous wees!
That being said, that colour is lovely and you know your style.
Fingers crossed for the job

lazybrownfox · 28/08/2024 00:33

"The crotch area is weird I think"

Yes you are right.

TransformerZ · 28/08/2024 01:54

Unless you're tall and slim and petite boned like the model then no.
Wear a cardigan with it regardless.

ChampagneLassie · 28/08/2024 05:04

You say it’s finance and a big deal, I assume you mean senior. I’m from that world. I think if it is a fintech / younger more modern company it is fine, if more traditional then I’d dress more traditionally - ie suit. If it’s high paid and in city then it’s just not the right calibre of outfit. Whichever, what would people working there wear for an important pitch? It’s always safer to look more formal and more effort for an interview. I don’t think you can overdress.

Sweetteaplease · 28/08/2024 05:06

I think if you have to ask, then it's a risk. It feels too casual to me for a job interview, although it would look smarter with a blazer. Personally I wouldn't take the risk if I really wanted the job, first impressions and all that

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 28/08/2024 05:24

The back view of most people in a jumpsuit is often like a sack full of puppies. Not in a cute way either!

Bearpawk · 28/08/2024 05:34

Not if it's a formal environment, no

renthead · 28/08/2024 05:52

I love it! But I sort of agree that if you have to ask whether it's appropriate, it may be better not to do it. You wouldn't want to be second guessing your choice.
