Renae Green Jumpsuit
Interview is in the morning and next week - weather should be fine and I will get there by public transport

Will wear black flat pointed ballerinas and a black leather briefcase

My style is very casual / sportive in general

I work from home but when I go to my office I choose basic workwear as it is very relaxed - this new place is a lot more formal

If there are any recruiters, HR, interviewers here:
1- what do you notice clothes wise during an interview?
2 - what puts you off if anything?
3 - is it ever ok to wear below the knees dress / skirt without tights?

"The crotch area is weird I think"

Yes you are right.

You don't want the interviewers thinking about your crotch rather than how you nailed that target.

This, the outfit shouldn't be a distraction. Also, no sleeveless or sandals imo. Good luck!

There’s one pair of white/putty colour shoes/sandals which I’ve got (Clarks) but they cover the toes mostly and I can wear nude tights with them too. They cover most of the foot but you can wear them without tights too.

I was always told when younger professionals either had tanned legs or tights if you wanted to look professional.

I like this but then I like the two tone combo. Still kicking myself (it’d probably never fit now!) as Zara did two options of a white top and blue skirt combined dress and the same combo but with pale pink skirt option.

Wow I'm surprised at these reactions. I worked in tech in London for 12 years and it was so casual. Other than law and banking I didn't know so many environments were so formal

TizerorFizz · 29/08/2024 20:45

@bryceQ I don’t believe they are! I think there’s some very inflexible posters on here.

They aren't - once you're in the door. This thread is about an interview outfit.

bryceQ · 29/08/2024 20:50

Yes I understand that. I worked at 5 companies and consulted for a lot so I did interview often. I work in marketing so perhaps more flexible but I never felt like I underdressed for the interview.

I work in a totally different space now where I wear kaftans and palazzo pants so entirely informal!

Good luck OP I'm sure you'll look lovely and hope it goes well.

Well when I'm interviewing I would expect male candidates to wear a suit and tie. If employed no need generally for suit and tie but there will be some occasions and some clients when a suit and tie is needed.

Female candidates have far more options of what to wear but if someone turned up in that green jumpsuit I would think why they are they wearing that? It looks odd. It's not an attractive outfit. Did they spill something down their jacket?

bryceQ · 29/08/2024 21:12

Wow just goes to show different industries. I never once saw anyone turn up in a suit and tie, it would look very unusual. I've never owned a formal jacket or worn the female equivalent. My brother works in law and he does wear a suit for interviews and court.

Why does it surprise you that different sectors have different standards?

I'm a solicitor, although not a litigator. I'm occasionally in court but sitting in with a litigator or Counsel. The person on their feet speaking will wear a gown over their formal workwear. I wouldn't dream of wearing a sleeveless jumpsuit in court.

I wouldn't wear a sleeveless jumpsuit at a client meeting either.

Just a little update - the interview was today and I wore this dress (but in navy) with these shoes, a back blazer and bag.

The interview went well But I'm not taking the job if they offer due to logistics as they are not flexible with location.

Well done on the interview going well! Fingers crossed they have a rethink on logistics (you never know) but all good experience either way and great outfit for interview.
