Renae Green Jumpsuit
Interview is in the morning and next week - weather should be fine and I will get there by public transport

Will wear black flat pointed ballerinas and a black leather briefcase

My style is very casual / sportive in general

I work from home but when I go to my office I choose basic workwear as it is very relaxed - this new place is a lot more formal

If there are any recruiters, HR, interviewers here:
1- what do you notice clothes wise during an interview?
2 - what puts you off if anything?
3 - is it ever ok to wear below the knees dress / skirt without tights?

Wear a jacket with it to make it smarter.

Also lolz at very sulky model

🤔

Coconutter24 · 28/08/2024 21:09

Lovely jumpsuit but doesn’t seem appropriate being sleeveless

ForestofDoom · 28/08/2024 21:51

Not for an interview. Too risky. I love jumpsuits but wouldn’t wear one to any interview.

LonelyInDville · 28/08/2024 21:57

I love it but would throw on a cardigan and or a 3/4th sleeve jacket with it.

Modern corporate really does not mean no bare arms these days. It really doesn’t.

It does at an interview. Once the job is in the bag, fine.

TizerorFizz · 28/08/2024 23:36

If I interviewed a woman looking this chic and well groomed I’d not be thinking they were all clothes and no brain. Plus I don’t really care if anyone agrees with me. I do know what good style actually looks like. I would probably swerve the jump suit as they can look a bit ill fitting but a decent top, perfect. If you look great as these models do. If it was 30 degrees, who wants a jacket? Unless there’s fierce air con of course.

Bare arms would be a no in any office situation for me, but I am old fashioned.

TizerorFizz · 28/08/2024 18:05

A body suit with long sleeves in August? That would get noticed. Why aren’t women allowed bare arms? Are the banned now? Utterly bizarre.

Yeah this! I think the jumpsuit is fine OP, we're not in the 1800s.

mitogoshi · 29/08/2024 10:03

Great jumpsuit but it needs a blazer, bare arms aren't appropriate for an interview arrival even if you take it off there

Posters aren't advising avoiding a sleeveless jumpsuit because they think women should wear plain, long aleeved blouses habitually (unless they wish to). They are advising from a pragmatic viewpoint: Keep things classic for interview then revert to your own style when you've got the job as you don't know how conservative the panel will be.

I wouldn't really judge a candidate on appearance within a very wide margin but personally find those selections quite fussy for formal interview, perhaps the dark one is ok.

It's a bit like a man wearing a short sleeved shirt. Fine. There's nothing offensive about arms. Dress rules are arbitrary. Nothing bad has happened. But you get one first impression and are showing (to some of people) you've not quite hit the mark. Is it really worth it?

dhxxx · 29/08/2024 11:07

I'm actually shocked at the amount of people who are saying they wouldn't hire someone who looked well dressed and groomed in case they were all substance/not intelligent/took too long in the morning! That is actually outrageous and I hope none of them are actually in hiring positions.

Viviennemary · 29/08/2024 14:10

A jumpsuit for an interview. I'd say absolutely not. And not cropped trousers either Totally inappropriate.

What's wrong with arms?

Yes tops of legs, and breast. I don't know arms were an area of offence.
Not in this century anyway.

Oh fgs. It's been explained. It's a bit like a man wearing a short sleeved shirt. Fine. There's nothing offensive about arms. Neither are a good look at an interview.

HRCsMumma · 29/08/2024 14:53

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle corrr, you're a bit rude.
I wouldn't want to be interviewed by someone who judges people as 'not a good look' anyway. That's more unprofessional than someone wearing a smart jumpsuit in the height of summer with their arms on show.

I think you need to get with the times.

MoonAndStarsAndSky · 29/08/2024 14:54

It's perfect - would be too smart for my industry!

TizerorFizz · 29/08/2024 15:17

@HerculesMulligan @HRCsMumma @dhxxx I’m so glad some sensible people have joined in. I was beginning to think I was in the last century! I posted tops from Max Mara and The Fold - for working women! They are not cheap but look great for the summer. Someone thought two of them were too fussy! Since when? It’s like a style thread from the 60s. Women - know your place! Don’t have any personality expressed via clothes. Don’t rock the man’s view of what you should look like. It’s awful. Hopefully these posters don’t interview. If they do, they need training in how to do it! Women - dare to rock those toned arms!

That jumpsuit is awful. It's a dull outfit from a mid range, middle of the road high street brand.

The objections to the simultaneously dull but odd looking outfit have nothing to do with the points you're making.

TizerorFizz · 29/08/2024 15:42

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Most of the posters felt women could not wear a sleeveless outfit at an interview. For various reasons but one clear reason was herd mentality. Don’t frighten the horses. They might remember your clothes and not your answers. It’s inappropriate. Any interviewer should take notes. Be aware that clothes are an expression of personality. As for women cannot wear sleeveless because men wouldn’t wear a shirt sleeved shirt is utter balls! I posted high quality expensive tops. Not everyone can look chic and well turned out or spend that amount of money. There’s no need to be quite so rude about what someone chooses though. Are you dressed in Chanel every day or Prada?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 29/08/2024 15:47

You wore that to an interview?

I'm a solicitor and I'm currently sitting on a train killing time reading this. after a meeting. I'm wearing this dress from Eponine. I wouldn't wear this dress to an intetview but I wear it to work.

There's a difference between interview clothes and what you wear once your foot is in the door.

Onelifeonly · 29/08/2024 15:55

In my job, smartish but not OTT smart would be right. TBH I think you need to look smart without drawing attention to your clothes as such. A tailored dress with short sleeves would be fine. I haven't regularly worn tights for years but I'd probably feel it was better to do so. But the jumpsuit- no. Too noticeable and a bit of an odd choice. There's nothing wrong with bare skin as such but in a more formal situation it usually denotes either casual or trying to draw attention to one's looks.

Onelifeonly · 29/08/2024 15:58

But that outfit has an entirely different feel / impact to the one OP posted. It looks like work attire whereas hers does not.
