Renae Green Jumpsuit
Interview is in the morning and next week - weather should be fine and I will get there by public transport

Will wear black flat pointed ballerinas and a black leather briefcase

My style is very casual / sportive in general

I work from home but when I go to my office I choose basic workwear as it is very relaxed - this new place is a lot more formal

If there are any recruiters, HR, interviewers here:
1- what do you notice clothes wise during an interview?
2 - what puts you off if anything?
3 - is it ever ok to wear below the knees dress / skirt without tights?

They'd certainly remember the one in the green jumpsuit so I guess if you can be wow amazing in your interview that could go in your favour! If you feel confident in jumpsuits then you will be confident in the interview.

Personally I am not a jumpsuit fan. However, that one looks more stylish than most and with a blazer would be ok. As others have said though I think it depends on the job and the other employees vibe... can you see any photos of them at work on their website if so are they all formal in suits or more relaxed? If it's a young company you'll be fine, more traditional then maybe you'll stand out - though again you could work that to your advantage! Good luck!

It's not an outfit I'd buy specifically for an interview. If you turned up and I was interviewing you, I'd think you'd had a last minute outfit crisis and grabbed the most appropriate alternative outfit that you had at home.

distrussful · 28/08/2024 06:30

I'm going to go completely against the grain and say it's great, I'm a partner in a consulting firm- wouldn't notice except the colour is great, loads of people inc my fellow female partners wear jumpsuits inc to client pitches. I am in the city though, not sure if that makes a difference. Would actually notice if you wore tights (and wonder why) in this weather rather than if you didn't!

isthismylifenow · 28/08/2024 06:31

Buying a jumpsuit online with a tight schedule is a recipe for disaster. Being long of body I can tell you all jumpsuits are not equal.

If you don't like to tuck in shirts, I would go with a dress. I also don't think sleeveless is appropriate for the setting.

TeachesOfPeaches · 28/08/2024 06:35

It's smart but slightly agog at the £139 price tag for polyester. It'll be quite sweaty

GoogleWhacking · 28/08/2024 06:42

I also love a jumpsuit and think they are absolutely fine for interviews, but I don't like this one. It may look better on you! I'd never go sleeveless to an interview so maybe a jacket to smarten it up a bit.

Mumoftwo1316 · 28/08/2024 06:47

The only impression your clothes should give at interview is no impression, imo.

Your clothes should not be memorable. You'll want to be remembered for the stuff you said, not what you wore.

[Obvious exception - working in fashion]

Just wear an unremarkable two piece navy suit and save the interesting clothes for when you're working there

Dibbydoos · 28/08/2024 06:47

I love it.

How did the interview go @bitesthedust

GreenPoppy · 28/08/2024 06:48

I read all the comments before I looked at the jumpsuit - I was expecting to think it far too casual. But I think it's fine, it looks relatively formal with the lapels, crease in trousers.

I think it would look quite strange with a jacket over the top, so two sets of lapels. It's hot at the moment, I think it's fine to go sleeveless.

Shezlong · 28/08/2024 07:02

I love jumpsuits but I don't think this one would work. Because it's already got lapels, it will be very difficult to get a jacket that would work over the top of it - cynically I think that's why the model isn't wearing her jacket properly so you can't really see. And sleeveless is too casual for an interview. Do you have any other jumpsuits that might work?

flapjackfun · 28/08/2024 07:43

I like it but agree that sleeveless is a bit casual for an interview. What about a something else like this? www3.next.co.uk/style/LS406608/Q35567?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADm_5UWtJoMoM9QQBLqBfRcaNQ7j3&gclid=CjwKCAjw8rW2BhAgEiwAoRO5rPFcqG4GkVRKCzakvvN3y6fZTEPzTW_ek1qowVYdmh0xHNm-iDXHShoCeOEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#Q35567

I recently wore a jumpsuit for an interview for a very senior public facing role in a civil service type organisation and got the job.

However it wasn't sleeveless and I think that's the problem with your proposed jumpsuit. I do know what you mean though about feeling confident in a jumpsuit as I do too.

There are lots of smart jumpsuits with sleeves which would work for you. The next one that someone linked to is good.

Rocknrollstar · 28/08/2024 08:10

It simply isn’t appropriate for any interview.

Josephinesnapoleon · 28/08/2024 08:13

Surely you can don a blazer and tuck a shirt in for the duration of the interview, or are you nd and it’s not possible? No you can’t front up for a corporate type role in a sleeveless jumpsuit. Interview attire is very simple. Skirt, trousers, blouse, blazer suit jacket. Job done.

I don't see that distinction at all. It's a fairly boring outfit from a middle of the road high street brand. There's nothing remarkable or adventurous about the style of the jumpsuit that would appeal to less conservative dressers.

For a conservative situation, it just looks odd- as if OP had grabbed first thing to hand.

OohShakiraShakira · 28/08/2024 08:53

It's a bit Selling Sunset for me

Scirocco · 28/08/2024 13:13

Not appropriate. If the interview is for a formal place, you really need a smart suit (trousers, skirt or dress with matching jacket), at least for the interview.

Mrsredlipstick · 28/08/2024 13:19

I'd recommend black trousers, silk top and a jacket.
The TV presenter uniform. That's what I wear every day. Presentations I wear dresses.

Tonkabeans · 28/08/2024 13:40

Op given you're asking, you probably aren't going to be in your comfort zone even if you wear this. That's important in an interview so I'd wear smt tried and trusted. Afterwards when you get the job you can read the dress code better and wear accordingly! Hopefully it is a jumpsuit kind of place.

nosleepforme · 28/08/2024 13:54

It’s a formal jumpsuit, it’s not casual. I like it!

KreedKafer · 28/08/2024 13:58

I think it's perfectly OK to wear a jumpsuit to an interview, but I would definitely not pick a sleeveless one.

strawberry2017 · 28/08/2024 14:00

If you walked in wearing this I would think you look amazing. I like someone who wears what they are comfortable in over a suit. Suits don't suit a lot of people and if someone's not used to wearing it you can tell.
I think as long as you look smart, you feel good wearing it I think go for it.

Hesma · 28/08/2024 15:00

20 years plus in recruitment and this would be a no for me. It’s lovely but not professional.

Thesheerrelief · 28/08/2024 15:10

Jumpsuit is fine in my eyes - have worked in pharma plus financial and professional services - but not without a jacket over it.

hampsteadmum · 28/08/2024 15:16

Not appropriate for an interview. Once you get the job, go for it. Keep it safe for an interview: suit (trousers/skirt) or dress with matching blazer or at the very least a non matching blazer over a shirt/top and trousers/skirt/dress. I wouldn't risk the latter unless I was familiar with the dress code and culture of the company.
