Comfortable but stylish trainers for commuting?

Hi all,

I need some new trainers for commuting now we're getting into Autumn and I'm looking for recommendations. My commute has a lot of walking so they actually need to be "proper" trainers (ie not Adidas Gazelles) but also stylish too. I usually wear midi dresses so ideally looking for something which goes with these. If the trainers are more "sporty" I can change into other shoes at work.

The closest I've found to something which fits the bill is these on running trainers: https://www.on.com/en-gb/products/the-roger-advantage-w-3wd1065/womens/white-fossil-shoes-3WD10652763

although I haven't tried them on so they may not actually be comfy. Another option I was thinking is getting a black and white pair of nikes or asics as the colour should hopefully make them less obvious. Open to thoughts!

I'd just get some regular ASICS, I personally think sports trainers look better than the flatter types.

Same. Try some goretex proofed running trainers.

Rally leather fit flop trainers, they are very comfortable.

These are beautiful. I really want them for running now

RoseMarigoldViolet · 26/08/2024 07:50

I wouldn’t get white ones because you will be cleaning them all the time.

PoohBearsBelly · 26/08/2024 07:51

Air and Grace make lovely super comfy trainers. Spendy though!

MsJacksonIfYoureNasty · 26/08/2024 10:34

@SafariShoes And they are really good for just walking around. I wore mine on a week in Amsterdam and Bruges and they were so comfortable. I’ve got the Clifton 9 ones too for the gym.

Skechers are quite good and are comfy and have lots of styles and colours

I walk a lot and have the On Cloud 5 waterproof trainers. They are hands down the most comfortable pair I've ever owned.

Ooooh these could be perfect, particularly given we're going into autumn/winter! Thank you!

I love skechers. They are most certainly not stylish though. I don't care so I still wear them.

Having worn Nike for 20 years, I just bought a pair of Allbirds. They are a revelation. Love them!

I tried Allbirds for a while and loved them until I worked out they were giving me really bad pain in the joint of one of my big toes - no idea why but I was so sad as they were great!

Oh no @roamingcat !! That's frustrating. I hopeful that they don't bring that for me. I feel as tho they could become my new go to. What are you wearing instead?

If you need then to look a certain way, could you add some insoles for extra support?

You can even get some tailored to your exact feet. Probably better than having to lug a second pair of trainers with you

I really like Veja trainers. I have a pair that I’ve walked in loads and they look smart for work too.

After a recommendation on this forum I have Onitskuka Tiger Mexico 66s and love them. They're super-comfortable (and I walk a lot) and - as a fellow MNer said - 'quietly stylish'. I have them in two colours:
