How hard is it to find a decent basic white vest top?!

Basically the title of my thread!

I'm going on holiday in 4 weeks and just want some basic white vests to go with my shorts for running around after my toddler.

Ideally they would be -
Thick enough strap to cover the bra
Hit at the waist (loads seem to be almost a mini dress or a crop top!)
Max of 15 quid a top (sunscreen stains means that realistically they're going to end up needing binning before next summer!)
Not skin tight and see through!

Anyone got any places I can try? I used to love matalan of all places for them but they've changed theirs and so now they are miles too long!

O forgot to say...
A scoop neck (big boobs) also needed!

I can't help op but having the same issue and going on holiday next week.

I've got a few pairs of patterned or floral shorts and skirts and what I really need is plain white or black vest tops to go with them. All I can find is the multipack 'under-top', skin-tight type of vest or large floaty or patterned tops. I just need plain slimish fitting vest tops that aren't so tight they make me look like a sausage in a skin.

So basic but so hard to find!

Try Primark, they are nice and comfy. Waist length too, about £2 each??? Had mine for years x

MrsKwazi · 08/08/2024 07:26

Look at Me and Em but it wouldn’t suit your max budget. Totally worth it though, I really rate their quality, have several of the layering vests.

Kipperthedawg · 08/08/2024 07:27

Primark if you're lucky. I tend to go for white t shirts though so I don't need to worry about my shoulders catching the sun.

Don't bin them after a year either, white vinegar is good for suncream stains, or worst case turn them into tea towels!

Singleandproud · 08/08/2024 07:29

Tesco do some in a cardboard package in their value range, I opted for black over white so not sure about the sheerness but find them perfect I think they are 2 for £8.

Puppalicious · 08/08/2024 07:31

M&S though not sure of price

Sirzy · 08/08/2024 07:33

bloodyeffinnora · 08/08/2024 07:34

£8.50. They've had lots of colour variations of their scoop neck ribbed vest top. I've got a silver one. Washes well and can be tumble dried.

I have these from Uniqlo - they're good quality, not see-through and wash well

M&s - I have the ribbed ones in 4 colours now.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/08/2024 07:37

I bought one that fits that bill exactly from M&S last week. Where have you been looking because H&M and next Aldo have very similar.

M&s - I have the ribbed ones in 4 colours now.

Also recommend, and they wash well, too. Wide strap, longer length, nice and thick, and scoop neck - winner!

Also BAM Bamboo clothing. Although with a big bust I size up, as lighter colours can go see through. Perfect for hot weather and as an under top as its moisture wicking fabric. But pricier than M&S.

Maelil01 · 08/08/2024 07:41

I got mine in M & S tho had to order them online as they’d very little in-store. They’ve a big range of colours too. They’ve a very fine ribbed appearance which I was a bit worried would cling to lumps and bumps but they don’t.

Yeah, I’ve got three on hol with me at the moment. They are exactly what I needed

Boden's essential scoop neck vests are on sale right now - they are usually good quality and quite long

itsgettingweird · 08/08/2024 07:50

Have you looked at men's vest style t shirts?

They aren't strappy as such but I got a few from Asda at £4 and they could be tucked into shorts or worn loose (they sit at the hips because they are men design!)

They were perfect for me to just chuck on over a bikini top to travel between places

CheeseWisely · 08/08/2024 08:06

You've perfectly described the last vests I got from Primark. I was pregnant so sized up but they've taken being stretched over a bump surprisingly well and I'm still wearing them now.

Attictroll · 08/08/2024 08:27

I have some from H&M or Tu... although white with a toddler for me was a no no I would last 5 mins...before sticky hands touched them...so now have a variety of colours.

curlymumof2 · 08/08/2024 08:34

River Island, New look or Zara

dottyaboutstripes · 08/08/2024 08:41

EndofDaze · 08/08/2024 09:00

I picked up some great basic vests for my holiday, £2.50 in Primark!
