How hard is it to find a decent basic white vest top?!

Basically the title of my thread!

I'm going on holiday in 4 weeks and just want some basic white vests to go with my shorts for running around after my toddler.

Ideally they would be -
Thick enough strap to cover the bra
Hit at the waist (loads seem to be almost a mini dress or a crop top!)
Max of 15 quid a top (sunscreen stains means that realistically they're going to end up needing binning before next summer!)
Not skin tight and see through!

Anyone got any places I can try? I used to love matalan of all places for them but they've changed theirs and so now they are miles too long!

Peacocks had several different ones some were looser fitting than others, and various strap widths.

DD is living in Primark ones this summer, but the £5 ribbed ones that are on hangers in the shops not the cheaper ones that are piled up on a table.

I got some from John Lewis & would you believe it New Look. Both 100% good quality cotton, I find the ones with elastane in cling in all the wrong places.

Thanks all! I'm in the office today so will have a look at next and primark on my lunch! If not will order the marks ones and the john lewis! It's the length that is the biggest problem...maybe I have a short torso?!

I have these multipacks from ASOS, they also do them in packs of 3 or singles

edited to add that I have a long torso (need longer length swimming costumes etc) and these are more than OK!

I have several good white vests from M&S, COS and River Island.
All wash well. Have scooped neckline and thick straps.

I bought 2 in H&M in the spring & have practically worn them in rotation. I particularly like that they hit at the waist, so I can tuck them into high waisted shorts, jeans, skirts etc without making my hips look huge (I'm an hourglass shape).

PragmaticDramatic · 08/08/2024 18:34

Try H&M

I can't help op but having the same issue and going on holiday next week.

I've got a few pairs of patterned or floral shorts and skirts and what I really need is plain white or black vest tops to go with them. All I can find is the multipack 'under-top', skin-tight type of vest or large floaty or patterned tops. I just need plain slimish fitting vest tops that aren't so tight they make me look like a sausage in a skin.

So basic but so hard to find!

Same issue! I love swingy shorts that hit my waist and just want them to stop there! I cracked and bought a couple of primark ones yesterday even though theyre not perfect, going to order the john lewis and marks ones mentioned on this thread and hope they're not too long!

Ooo I will have a look online at h and m now, they didn't have any in the shop the last few times I've looked but I'm also an hourglass so may help! That's the other reason I don't want long ones - they make me look wider or roll up from my hips to my waist and bunch there!

Edited

Thank you! I'd tried these and they where unfortunately too long. I'm short waisted so they ended up a bit like a minidress 🤣

Another vote for Primark - their vests are surprisingly decent and not see-through. I always size up with them though.

Thank you!! I've been searching for vest tops without elastane/lycra for ages. I want ones that drape rather than cling and ride up over my lumps.

Cantonet · 09/08/2024 11:08

I wear the ribbed 100% cotton ones from Primark. They're in the Rita Ora range -
Slightly scooped.

cheapskatemum · 09/08/2024 16:20

I hear you @Spink86! It occurred to me that I bought mine in an H&M outlet in USA, so I hope they have them in UK 🤞🏼.

FakeMiddleton · 09/08/2024 16:22

White tank tops are the only thing I miss from TopShop.

Try GAP!

BashfulClam · 09/08/2024 16:23

H&M have ones like that. Next do multipacks.

Summertimer · 09/08/2024 16:27

Agree it’s tricky - I bought a black and a white ribbed vest top from Primark last year. They are a bit short in the body for me. I thought it was my height, but it’s probs also a style

Ineedaholidayyyy · 09/08/2024 16:33

I have these from Next, I don't have the white but I have other colours and I really like the fit, and they aren't too thin.

Peacocks. Usually about £4. White, black, and various other colours.
